【First Half: Part One】
Prologue: The Beginning of Everything
Eve stared blankly at the darkness on the screen, her eyes filled only with endless sorrow. Is this all that's left? Dan, where are you? I miss you so much...
It seems that fate is truly sealed. The power of that all-out strike caused the entire Kalan Continent to sink, and just the aftershock of that force triggered massive earthquakes across the planet. Then... the dust raised by the explosion will cover the whole world. After about seventy percent of all life goes extinct, the dust will settle, and the sunlight that emerges will be the final end. With no atmosphere, no plants, and a massive amount of carbon dioxide, at temperatures above 500 degrees, no life can survive—not even dragons!
"Noah, how many steps are left in the final debugging program?"
"Only 'fusion' and 'release' remain. Overall completion is at ninety-one percent." The calm voice came from the computer's synthetic speech.
This might be the last hope for all living things—the Noah Project. This will be the only chance. It can preserve the genetic material of all great creatures through this catastrophe, and even allow them to evolve. What kind of life will it be when the Immortal Clan, Sea Clan, Wolf Clan, Night Clan, Titan Clan, and Heaven-Earth Clan are merged together? The peace of the Immortal Clan, the compassion of the Sea Clan, the bravery of the Wolf Clan, the nobility of the Night Clan, the fearlessness of the Titan Clan, the courage of the Heaven-Earth Clan—all at once, along with their negatives: the cowardice of the Immortal Clan, the ignorance of the Sea Clan, the ferocity of the Wolf Clan, the loneliness of the Night Clan, the ambition of the Titan Clan, the capriciousness of the Heaven-Earth Clan. Ha, I really want to see what kind of being that would be, that new creature called human.
"Noah, if we switch to main computer control, what will the completion rate be?" Eve asked softly.
After a burst of computer processing sounds, Noah replied, "One hundred percent."
A strange feeling surged in Eve's heart—that was absolute loneliness. "I miss you so much, Dan, my Adam, I'm coming now. We'll never be apart again, forever, just like you promised..." It was as if she could see Adam's helpless yet doting smile before her eyes.
From the entrance of the underground lab, a small aircraft flew out, heading toward the Pacific Ocean...
Chapter One: The Gears Begin to Turn
"...Afterwards, due to the impact of a giant asteroid, the age of dinosaurs ended. In this catastrophe, most living things were wiped out... Stand up, David Clark!" The high-pitched voice came from the beautiful teacher in front of him, sounding especially out of place.
The person called David Clark lifted his face. Though still drowsy, he gave off a comforting feeling—in other words, he had a baby face.
"Huh?" Then came the laughter of the whole class, followed by his resigned standing up.
The person next to him smiled at him and then went back to listening to the lesson. That person was extremely, extremely—how to put it—handsome to the point of looking like a beautiful woman, ridiculously handsome.
He could see the mockery in that person's eyes and could only force a bitter smile. That person's name was Eric Bennett, his friend—well, more like a frenemy, but at least he had helped him out a lot!
That dream again. Why have I been having that dream so often lately? David Clark looked out the window. It probably started when the Eden Project was announced on TV. "David Clark!" The high-pitched voice came at just the right time, pulling him out of his thoughts. Uh-oh, crap, I forgot I was still in class...
Half an hour after school, our protagonist finally "crawled" out of the hellish teacher's office.
On the way home, David Clark didn't know how long it took before he snapped out of the school's hell, letting out a long breath. "Oh man!"—a bit of a complaint!
On the rooftop of a distant high-rise, two young people stood, a man and a woman. The woman let out a soft laugh, her gaze fixed on David Clark. The man said, "Right, I think it's today."
"Honey, what do you mean 'think'? Did you forget your own business?" The girl revealed a perfect face, mischievous eyes paired with flawless features—an absolute beauty. Unfortunately, the exaggerated look of distrust on her face ruined that perfection!
"Uh, don't mess around. Let me think... That's right, it's today, June 7, 2031—the day my fate changes." The boy's face was actually identical to David Clark's, even the half-smiling expression was exactly the same.
When David Clark got home, he found many cars parked at his door, and except for one, all the other cars had people sitting in them. Could it be...?
When he went upstairs, he saw two people standing at his door—very tall, the kind you could tell at a glance were either thugs or bodyguards. Sure enough, his father was back!
As soon as the two saw David Clark return, they sensibly stepped aside. David Clark walked in and, sure enough, found his father, Brian Clark.
