Chapter 9

Henry Clark stood at the entrance of a shop selling ordinary weapons and glanced inside. He saw that even a very ordinary long saber was priced at one gold coin. Yet, all the wealth Julia Foster had given him added up to only fifty silver coins. It took a hundred silver coins to exchange for one gold coin. In other words, all his possessions combined could only buy half of this ordinary long saber.

As for those shops selling magical artifacts and elixirs, Henry Clark didn’t even bother to go in. He knew that very few of them accepted gold coins; those shops only took spirit-gathering stones. One spirit-gathering stone could be exchanged for a hundred gold coins. Even if the The Clark Family still existed, spirit-gathering stones would still be a luxury for them.

Some hunters, carrying all kinds of weapons, mingled among the crowd, walking along the street. These people usually carried a faint scent of blood, clearly having spent years killing outside. Although such people looked fierce, they were the most popular in Cangle City. Because they were generous spenders and rarely bargained.

These people lived precarious lives. Except for a few who had the talent to cultivate, most hunters lived for the moment, drinking today’s wine today. The gold coins and money they earned were all spent on enjoying life—not only frequenting bustling hotels, but also scattering their gold coins in the brothels of Cangle City.

Just as Henry Clark was still marveling at the bustling prosperity of Cangle City, a sharp shout came from the end of the street. A young man dressed in white, riding a white unicorn, came charging down the road with a roar. From a distance, it looked like a flash of white lightning.

People on the street hurriedly dodged to both sides. Some who didn’t move fast enough were directly knocked flying by the white unicorn. In the blink of an eye, this white blur was right in front of Henry Clark. Henry Clark had always been quick to react, and now that his body was slowly recovering, he responded almost instantly upon seeing the white blur.

Just as Henry Clark was about to step back, he saw a little boy still standing in the middle of the street, looking panicked and at a loss. By now, those who reacted quickly had already retreated, and even the slower ones had started to move back. This little boy clearly wouldn’t be able to escape the unicorn charging at such speed.

Henry Clark swiftly reached out and picked up the little boy, pulling him toward the edge of the street. As Henry Clark barely managed to get out of the way, the white unicorn roared past him, the wind it stirred up making the corners of Henry Clark’s eyes sting.

Seeing that the little boy was safe and sound, Henry Clark let out a sigh of relief, still wondering what kind of beast this unicorn was. It was likely out of control, which was why it suddenly ran wild in the street.

At that moment, the unicorn that had just been running wildly suddenly stopped. Not only that, it even turned its head and actually walked up to Henry Clark.

“How dare you ruin my fun, courting death…” The young man in white sitting on the unicorn’s back spoke as he lashed his whip at Henry Clark.

Henry Clark immediately tried to dodge, but he quickly realized he couldn’t avoid the whip at all. The long whip carried an invisible force that suppressed him, or rather, left him no time to evade.

Henry Clark’s heart sank. Before he could think of his next move, a force had already pulled him away. In the next moment, the long whip swept past his eyes, even lifting the hem of his clothes.

Someone had saved him—Henry Clark realized this at once. At the same time, he understood that the unicorn’s rampage down the street was entirely intentional. Its owner actually took pleasure in hitting people, and by saving the little boy, he had deprived the man of that thrill.

Once Henry Clark understood all this, his heart grew even heavier. This was no longer Earth; such utterly unreasonable things could happen openly. By saving a little boy, he had also offended this white-clad man seeking excitement.

The white-clad man on the unicorn grew even angrier when he saw Henry Clark had been pulled away. But when he saw who had saved Henry Clark, his anger immediately subsided, and even his tone became gentle and polite as he said, “So it’s Emily. It’s just a lowly commoner…”

As he spoke, the white-clad man leapt down from the unicorn.

“Walter Hayes, I’m not that close to you. Besides, whether I save a commoner or not is none of your business.” A crisp, icy female voice rang out, and at the same time, a young girl in a pink dress, graceful and slender, appeared before Henry Clark.

Henry Clark immediately realized that it was this girl who had saved him. But Henry Clark did not step forward to thank her, because he knew this woman. Her name was Emily Bennett, and she could be said to be the nemesis of the The Clark Family. The downfall of the The Clark Family was all because of her.

Looking at the beautiful yet cold face before him, Henry Clark could no longer remember whether his former self had ever offended her, but he did remember that the previous Henry Clark had liked her very much. However, his former self had come from a decent background, and logically, he should have known the vast gulf between himself and Emily Bennett. Even if he liked her, he could only keep it in his heart and would never have done anything inappropriate.
