Chapter 17

This tower looked extremely magnificent, and there were quite a few people in front of it, coming and going. It was called a tower only because of its appearance. In fact, it would be more accurate to say it was a tower-shaped building, since the top was flat.

In the middle of this tower-shaped building, a few huge characters were written: 苍秦修炼塔.

"You follow me inside, and don't speak carelessly." After giving Henry Clark this reminder, Julia Foster had already walked in first.

This tower-shaped building already looked enormous from the outside, but after Henry Clark followed Julia Foster into the ground floor, he realized it was several times larger inside than he had imagined.

Julia Foster led Henry Clark all the way to the third floor, and only then walked toward a black stone door in the corner.

"Old Parker lives here. This is the academy's cultivation room, all managed by Old Parker. When you see Old Parker, you must be respectful..."

Julia Foster was still instructing Henry Clark when the black stone door opened. An elderly man with sparse hair, a face full of wrinkles, and eyes that couldn't even open stood at the doorway. "Since you're here, come in."

The voice was actually loud and clear. If Henry Clark had heard the voice first, he would have thought it belonged to a young man in his twenties or thirties, not an old man.

"Old Parker, this is Henry Clark." Julia Foster entered the stone door first and bowed respectfully to the old man.

Henry Clark followed and also bowed, saying, "Henry Clark greets Old Parker."

"First level of Qi Gathering, that's barely enough to help out. What about your spiritual root?" Old Parker swept a dull gaze over Henry Clark and asked.

Julia Foster quickly replied, "Henry Clark doesn't have a primary spiritual root, but he has three minor mixed spiritual roots."

"What color?" Old Parker asked again.

Julia Foster answered somewhat nervously, "Muddy yellow..."

Henry Clark didn't really understand spiritual roots, only that they represented aptitude. His aptitude was poor, so his spiritual root couldn't be anything good.

Just now, it was clearly Old Parker asking Julia Foster about Henry Clark's spiritual root, but after Julia Foster answered, Old Parker just snorted and said, "You're here to clean the cultivation rooms, so your spiritual root doesn't matter. All right, there's nothing more for you here, you can go."

"Yes, this junior will take his leave." Upon hearing Old Parker's words, Julia Foster quickly bowed her head and left, not even saying another word to Henry Clark.

Henry Clark, however, felt something was off. Julia Foster had said before that Old Parker treated her well, and the reason he could come here to do odd jobs was because Old Parker was helping out for Julia Foster's sake. But judging by how Julia Foster acted toward Old Parker, it didn't seem like she was highly regarded by him. If that was the case, why would Old Parker help him?

After Julia Foster left, the seemingly half-dead, half-alive Old Parker finally spoke coldly to Henry Clark, "The seventh floor of the cultivation tower happens to be uncleaned right now. You're in charge of the seventh floor."

Henry Clark was completely confused. In charge of the seventh floor? This old man just said "in charge of the seventh floor" and nothing else—how was he supposed to know what to do? And where was he supposed to stay?

"Take this, go to the seventh floor yourself, and don't bother me unless it's necessary." With that, Old Parker tossed a wooden token and a thin piece of paper to Henry Clark.

As soon as Henry Clark caught the wooden token and the piece of paper, he felt a huge force push him out of the room. The next moment, Old Parker's black stone door was already closed.

"This Old Parker doesn't seem like an easy person to talk to, probably not a good person either," Henry Clark muttered to himself, but he didn't dare go back to ask Old Parker anything.

The note was very simple: every day before dawn, all unused cultivation rooms on the seventh floor must be cleaned. If there are any unusual situations, they must be reported immediately. The wooden token is the key to open the doors of the cultivation rooms; as long as no one is inside, the token can open the door. If you violate the rules, you will be severely punished.

Henry Clark looked at these simple instructions, feeling baffled. Violate the rules? There weren't even any rules written here. And what exactly counted as an unusual situation? Who was he supposed to report to? What did "cleaning" actually mean?

He knew nothing about any of this. The only thing he understood was that this cultivation tower had seven floors, and he was to work on the seventh floor. He didn't even know where he was supposed to eat or sleep.

Henry Clark really wanted to find Julia Foster to ask, but he had no idea where Julia Foster was. The 苍秦二星学院 was so huge that even if he walked around the whole place, it wouldn't be something he could finish quickly.

According to what Henry Clark thought, after Julia Foster brought him to Old Parker, she should have waited outside. But after he came out of Old Parker's stone room, he didn't see Julia Foster at all.

Henry Clark didn't go out to look for Julia Foster, knowing very well that the less he showed his face here, the better. The fact that Julia Foster knew he had offended Walter Hayes meant that Walter Hayes had a high status in 苍秦二星学院, or perhaps the one who saved him, Emily Bennett, had a high status here. Otherwise, the matter wouldn't have reached Julia Foster's ears.

Henry Clark climbed up to the seventh floor of the cultivation tower himself. The seventh floor was much smaller than he had imagined. Although the cultivation tower wasn't really a tower, it was built in the shape of one. There were only seven floors in total, so it was expected that the higher floors would be smaller.
