Along the way, the master and servant subsisted on simple meals. The old servant Anderson had been a high-level Silver Warrior in his youth, a second-tier professional. Although he was old now, he still retained the strength of a basic Silver Warrior. On the road, if they managed to hunt some game, the two would use it to stave off hunger.
Chewing on the tough beast meat, Gaia did not utter a single complaint. Instead, it was old Anderson who would often secretly shed tears, blaming himself for not being able to take better care of the young master.
Food was manageable, but the further north they went, the colder it became. It was now the coldest season of the year in the Abyss of Magic. The biting wind from the north was unbearable even for a fourth-tier professional, requiring thick fur coats to keep warm. Yet old Anderson wore only a thin cotton shirt.
Gaia sat inside the carriage, watching old Anderson shivering outside, feeling deeply distressed. The loyal old servant served his master faithfully, yet he couldn’t even provide him with a warm coat.
As they passed through a small town, Gaia suddenly spoke up: “Anderson, let’s go in and have a look.” Old Anderson was taken aback, then thought for a moment. To save money, they had hardly stopped in any towns along the way. After all, Gaia was still young and naturally curious.
“Yes, young master.” Anderson drove the carriage into the town. Gaia lifted the curtain and peeked outside. “Wait a moment.” Anderson quickly stopped the carriage, but Gaia had already darted out and slipped into a nearby shop. Old Anderson was still in a daze when Gaia returned, holding a thick coat made of magic rat fur.
“Anderson, try it on.”
Anderson opened his mouth: “Young master, this coat must cost at least three gold coins. We only have nineteen left. We can’t spend money recklessly…” As he spoke, he tried to return the coat.
“Anderson!” Gaia’s small figure stood in the cold wind, shouting loudly, “Does my word as young master mean nothing? I order you to put it on!”
Though his voice was still a bit childish, it carried an undeniable firmness.
Old Anderson seemed to understand something. He silently set the whip aside and immediately put on the coat. Only after seeing him dressed did Gaia reveal a mischievous smile, scrambling back onto the carriage: “Alright, let’s go!”
“Giddy up!” Tears welled in old Anderson’s eyes as he swung the whip. The old horse strained to pull the carriage, slowly leaving the town behind.
“Anderson.”
“Young master?”
“Are you warm?”
“Warm, warm…” Anderson’s voice was a little choked, struggling to hold back his sobs as tears blurred his vision. He was still worrying about those three gold coins in his heart: “Young master, when we get to Greenland, there will be many places where we’ll need money. This coat you bought for your old servant is really too expensive…”
“You don’t need to worry about money. That’s my responsibility as your young master. Anderson, you’re my only family now. You’ve suffered so much following me. If I can’t even give you a warm coat, what kind of young master am I?” Gaia sighed softly.
Outside the carriage, old Anderson wiped away his tears and drove the horse with renewed vigor.
……
“Master, look…”
In the sky, those two voices appeared once again.
“Sigh…” The master let out a long sigh. “Victor, go prepare the tools.”
“Thank you, master!” Victor could not hide the joy in his voice.
……
Old Anderson threw a bundle of firewood onto the campfire. The glowing flames dimmed for a moment, then gradually flared up again. Gaia hugged his knees, staring blankly at the fire.
“Young master, go to sleep early. We have a long journey ahead tomorrow.”
Gaia agreed and crawled into a sleeping bag nearby. The campfire made the whole cave warm and cozy. Occasionally, a gust of cold wind would sweep in from the entrance, but it was quickly dispelled by the warmth. Old Anderson, wrapped in the magic rat fur coat, fell asleep by the fire.
In the middle of the night, the wind howled at the cave entrance. Suddenly, two shadows appeared there, as if they had been standing there all along.
The servant-like figure drifted over to old Anderson like a ghost. With a gentle wave of his hand in front of him, Anderson’s snoring began.
If anyone had witnessed this, they would have been shocked. In just a few short movements, this servant had demonstrated powerful wind magic and hypnotic magic. Hypnosis magic belonged to the mental branch of magic, and most mages in the Abyss of Magic only possessed one magical attribute. To have two magical attributes meant at least being at the level of a Magister. Yet this servant possessed power comparable to a Magister!
After hypnotizing Anderson, the servant wasted no time. He quickly inserted six sapphire-blue magic crystal prisms, each engraved with strange magical patterns, beside the sleeping bag where Gaia slept, forming a hexagram array.
Next, he took out six more identical prisms, but these were red. He floated up to the cave ceiling and placed them in positions corresponding to those on the ground. If a mage had seen this, they would have been astonished: a three-dimensional magic array!
“Master, Victor has finished the setup.”
The master nodded. “Go outside and keep watch.”
“As you command.” Victor vanished without a sound. At the cave entrance, a long shadow was dragged in from outside.
