Chapter 12

Jack Dawson smiled, “As you know, I recently went traveling. There was one time when I accidentally hit my head in a dangerous place. Although I managed to survive, a lot of my memories are now a bit fuzzy. For example, when I first saw you just now, I almost didn’t recognize you. Could you give me a brief explanation?”

“Ah…” Cathy Lane and Ryan Allen both cried out in surprise at the same time, both startled by Jack Dawson’s words.

After a while, Cathy Lane spoke, somewhat uncertainly, “No wonder I felt you were a bit different from before. So that’s what happened. Are you alright? Do you want to go to the hospital for another checkup?”

Jack Dawson gave a self-deprecating smile. “You know, going to the hospital these days costs money, and I don’t have that much. Besides, it’s not so bad now—at least I’ve forgotten some things I probably shouldn’t have remembered in the first place. For me, and for some others, that’s actually a good thing.”

Seemingly agreeing with Jack Dawson’s words, Cathy Lane unconsciously nodded. “What do you need me to tell you?”

“Anything you know about me, just say whatever comes to mind. It’s fine, I’ve already let go of the past. The reason I want you to talk about it is just to prove to myself that I’ve truly moved on.” Jack Dawson’s words remained ambiguous.

Fortunately, Cathy Lane didn’t pay much attention to Jack Dawson’s tone. She sighed and said, “I was only your high school classmate for two years, so there’s not much I know. You transferred to our class in the second year of high school and stayed until graduation. At school, you were pretty quiet, or maybe introverted—not as talkative as you are now.

After graduation, I went to college, but you didn’t get in and left school. It wasn’t until two years ago, when I went to Grace Sullivan’s wedding, that I found out the person marrying Grace Sullivan was you, my high school classmate. Later, I heard that Grace Sullivan got divorced, and then there was no more news about you…”

At this point, Cathy Lane looked at Jack Dawson with some confusion. Logically, if he could marry Grace Sullivan, his family background should be pretty good. Why did Jack Dawson stop studying after failing the college entrance exam? She also remembered that Jack Dawson had always been mysterious since they became classmates. At the very least, she didn’t know where Jack Dawson came from, what his family did, or who his parents were.

Jack Dawson touched his nose. He hadn’t expected that he and Cathy Lane were barely classmates for just two years. According to what Cathy Lane said, they were only a bit more familiar than total strangers.

As for the information he wanted, he hadn’t gotten any at all.

“Thank you, Cathy Lane.” Jack Dawson stood up.

“Are you planning to go back to Luojin?” Seeing Jack Dawson stand up so decisively, Cathy Lane couldn’t help but ask another question.

Jack Dawson stretched and smiled, “Yeah, I’ll go back to Luojin for now. It’s better than wandering around outside.”

He knew he lived in Luojin; there was a rent receipt in his wallet, and the address was in Luojin.

“Di… Jack Dawson… I think you’re more positive than before. The past is the past, don’t dwell on it.” Cathy Lane couldn’t help but offer some advice.

Jack Dawson laughed heartily and said, “Yeah, if you’re going to die, at least face it head-on. Things are already like this, what do I have to be afraid of? If I let myself fall apart, it’ll only make the people I hate happy.”

“So, do you have any plans?”

“These past few years I learned a bit about medicinal herbs from a herbalist. I’m planning to see if I can find a related job. Thanks again for bringing me back.” After saying this, Jack Dawson had already walked out of Cathy Lane’s room.

Revenge was a distant matter; first, he had to survive. James Evans had given him a business card—if things didn’t work out, he could go to Linchuan Aibo Hospital to look for a job. Before that, he wanted to check out the place he lived in Luojin.

……

It took over four hours by bus from Wangchuan County bus station to Luojin. Although Jack Dawson had some vague memories, when he entered Luojin, he couldn’t help but feel amazed. Compared to Mingzhu City, Luojin had so many more people.

Not only was it crowded, but it was also extremely prosperous. If there was anything it couldn’t compare to Mingzhu City, it was that Luojin didn’t have all kinds of flying vehicles—maybe the technology level here was a bit lower than in Mingzhu City.

Jack Dawson took out a folded rent receipt. The address on it was: 22-601, Lane 726, Xuehu Road, Wuchuan District, Luojin. Because there was also the name Mark Dawson, Jack Dawson was sure this must have been the place he lived in his previous life.

The sixth floor was the top floor. As soon as he opened the door, Jack Dawson smelled a faint musty odor. Looking up, he saw the ceiling was soaked from rainwater—apparently, the waterproofing on this top floor wasn’t very good.

Whether it leaked or not, Jack Dawson didn’t care at all. The first thing he did was thoroughly clean himself, then went back to sleep.

From digging out the gray stone, to a golden bolt of lightning changing his body, then hearing the bad news about the Di family from Lucas Carter, and finally escaping into the void and arriving here…

Throughout the whole process, Jack Dawson’s nerves had been taut. Even in James Young’s car and outside Wangchuan Temple, he was only half-asleep. It wasn’t until now that he finally felt a bit of security.

Chapter 10 Grace Sullivan

Luobei University, although not nationally ranked, still had some standing in Luojin City.
