"I said before, if I can't cure him, I'll leave my head behind!" Edward Howard rolled his eyes and said coldly, "This is the The Newman Family, and I'm neither a Qi refiner nor a member of the family—I'm an outsider. If I had any ill intentions, how could I possibly walk out of the The Newman Family alive?"
"Listen to him." David Newman pondered for a moment, then bowed deeply to Edward Howard, his eyes full of pleading as he sincerely said, "I, David Newman, thank you in advance, Mr. Howard. As long as Little William is safe, I will reward you handsomely!"
Edward Howard nodded slightly, his expression unchanged.
"Everyone, out with me!" David Newman commanded.
At his order, even Grace Newman and everyone else in the room temporarily left.
"Creak!"
David Newman personally closed the door, then sat down heavily in front of it, taking deep breaths to steady his nerves as he waited anxiously.
"Father, another physician has come to save William Newman." In a secret chamber of the The Newman Family, Philip Newman tiptoed in and reported to Eric Newman, who was cultivating.
Leaning against a pillar of icy black jade, his whole body shrouded in cold air, Eric Newman's face was as frosty as ice. He said indifferently, "There's actually someone else greedy for that little bit of wealth."
He paused, then sneered coldly, disdainfully saying, "He's already on his last legs, yet he still wants the family to go all out to help him find someone? How could it be that easy? Over the years, in order to find William Newman's biological father, he's already spent all his hidden treasures. How much does he have left?"
"That's true." Philip Newman chuckled, "He doesn't know that you, Father, have a Soul Renewal Pill from the Lingyun Sect. The Soul Renewal Pill is a rare treasure. William Newman's strange illness—if he just swallows that pill, he'll be cured instantly."
"Charles Newman is my real grandson. If it were Charles Newman who had this strange illness, I would have given him the Soul Renewal Pill long ago." Eric Newman's face was indifferent. "Back then, when I competed with him for the position of family head, it was his time of greatest glory. For the sake of that position, he didn't leave me, his own brother, a shred of dignity. Times have changed, his luck has run out, and now it's my turn to rise."
"That boy William Newman always struck me as odd. I can't help but feel uneasy about him." Philip Newman frowned. "His cultivation is clearly much lower, yet he can still defeat Hong'er. He really is an anomaly. Luckily, he suddenly fell ill—otherwise... he might have become a hidden threat in the future."
"If William Newman dies from this illness, my elder brother's only spiritual support will collapse. It won't be long before he passes away as well. When that happens, nothing will stand in my way within the family." Eric Newman's eyes burned with anticipation.
"It won't be long now, Father. I don't think you'll have to wait much longer." Philip Newman said, full of confidence.
"I think so too," Eric Newman said, raising his head.
Meanwhile—
After David Newman and the others left William Newman's room one by one, the physician Edward Howard, who had appeared from who knows where, immediately took out a series of bottles and jars from his small medicine chest.
Inside those bottles and jars were colorful liquids, each emitting a variety of strange scents even through the stoppers.
Some bottles gave off a rich fragrance, some jars had a pungent sourness, and others were sharply spicy and acrid.
If David Newman hadn't left, the names labeled on some of those jars would have driven him mad.
Any one of those jars was a rare treasure in the world, their value far exceeding the reward he had offered.
Edward Howard quickly unscrewed a stopper and poured the deep blue potion from the jar into a large wooden tub filled with hot water.
"The so-called generous reward from David Newman isn't even enough for me to make three drops of Netherwater," Edward Howard muttered, pouring every last drop of Netherwater from the bottle into the tub.
As the Netherwater dripped into the tub, threads of azure light lingered in the air before slowly merging into the hot water.
Without pausing, Edward Howard added more liquids from other jars, one by one, into the tub.
The liquids in those jars were all on par with, or even more precious than, the Netherwater—rare treasures of heaven and earth.
Yet Edward Howard showed no pain or hesitation, pouring them all into the tub without a second thought.
Letting out a light breath, Edward Howard finally approached William Newman. His strange pupils, when gazing at William Newman up close, emitted an eerie green glow.
Edward Howard's expression grew solemn and focused. He carefully reached out, placing his palm on William Newman's back, and gently lifted the feverish, unconscious William Newman, his movements so light as if afraid William Newman might feel uncomfortable.
From his demeanor, it was as if he wasn't holding a child, but a priceless treasure.
Arriving at the large wooden tub, he was just as gentle, slowly and carefully lowering William Newman into it.
"Blub blub!"
As soon as William Newman entered the tub, the hot water—infused with all the medicinal liquids by Edward Howard—seemed to reach its boiling point in an instant, immediately bubbling up.
Chapter 10: Reducing the Fever
The unconscious William Newman soaked in the tub, his exposed skin flushed red and almost purple.
"Glug glug!"
Bubbles rose to the surface one after another, quickly bursting and releasing a faint green mist.
The entire room gradually filled with a rich herbal aroma. The boiling water in the tub, under the flickering candlelight, also gave off a strange greenish glow.
"Mmm..."
