Chapter 18

One by one, human figures shot up into the sky from the distant horizon. These figures possessed enormous gray wings, and with a single flap, they could dart hundreds of miles in an instant.

Scene after incredible scene flashed through William Newman's dream, one after another.

William Newman seemed to be brought into an ancient and mysterious world, witnessing divine miracles between heaven and earth as a bystander.

"Whoosh, whoosh!"

No one knew how much time had passed before William Newman began to gasp violently, suddenly jolting awake from his dream.

His whole body was drenched in sweat, feeling utterly exhausted, as if even his fingers could not move.

"What a wondrous dream! What a wondrous world!"

Staring at the flickering candlelight in the room, his eyes sparkled like stars, and an expression of intense longing and excitement appeared on his face.

Throughout the long night, he felt no trace of sleepiness, as if he were completely immersed in the earlier dream, unwilling to come out of it.

Not until the night faded and the sound of roosters crowing rang out did he suddenly feel drowsiness wash over him, and he finally fell into a deep sleep.

Early in the morning, David Newman took the initiative to invite the elders of the The Newman Family clan to the council hall of the The Newman Family, and in front of both the direct and collateral elders, he announced that he was stepping down from the position of clan head due to lack of energy.

"Big brother, you can rest assured. Under my leadership, the The Newman Family will surely regain its former glory!" Eric Newman declared with absolute confidence.

"I believe you have that ability." David Newman nodded gently, then, under the watchful eyes of all the elders of the The Newman Family, slowly walked out of the council hall.

"Father..." Outside the hall, Grace Newman, who had been waiting for a long time, hesitated to speak.

She could see that when David Newman left the hall, his eyes were filled with deep reluctance.

David Newman had been tormented by illness for many years and had long since lost his former vigor. Now, having stepped down as clan head, he seemed to have suddenly aged several more years, his whole being appearing somewhat dispirited.

"I'm fine, you don't need to worry." David Newman forced a smile. "My heart is tired. Over the years, those elders have long since lost their patience. If I kept clinging to that position, it would only bring us more trouble. This is for the best. From now on, I can devote all my energy to William Newman."

"I only hope that before I die, William Newman can gain the favor of the Lingyun Sect and be able to enter the sect to cultivate."

"That is my last hope and wish for the rest of my life."

Inside the hall, the noise was unceasing as the many elders of the The Newman Family offered their congratulations to Eric Newman.

Listening to Eric Newman's triumphant laughter and the flattery of those elders, Grace Newman felt increasingly upset and muttered softly, "Before father was injured, the faces of those elders were exactly the same as how they treat second uncle now. Times have changed. Now that father has stepped down, not a single person has come to offer even a word of comfort."

"That's life. I've long since seen through it. When you're in favor, everyone draws close. Once you lose power, the place becomes deserted and everyone keeps their distance." David Newman shook his head in disappointment. "Let's go, don't worry about them. Let's go see William Newman."

"Hopefully William Newman can win us back some dignity!" Grace Newman said bitterly.

She knew very well that now, David Newman had pinned all his hopes on William Newman.

If William Newman could show extraordinary talent in cultivation, perhaps hope would be rekindled in David Newman's heart. Even if he himself could no longer achieve anything in cultivation, as long as he could watch William Newman grow stronger day by day, he would be able to hold on and live well.

William Newman was now his entire spiritual support.

When David Newman and Grace Newman came to William Newman's side, they found that William Newman was snoring thunderously, still fast asleep.

"He's suffered a lot these past few days. This child... it's not been easy for him. Let's wait for him to wake up." David Newman gazed deeply at William Newman and spoke softly.

"Mm." Grace Newman replied, her heart aching.

As night fell, the physician Edward Howard, who had left the day before, arrived as promised.

"Mr. Howard, the wooden tub and hot water are ready. Please, sir, once again use your skillful hands to help rid this child of his illness at the root." David Newman said respectfully.

"Of course." Edward Howard nodded slightly. "You all go out. There's no need to wake him."

David Newman and Grace Newman obeyed and left, just as they had the day before, waiting quietly outside the room.

After they left, Edward Howard, just as he had yesterday, took out the bottles and jars from his small medicine chest and poured them into the hot water in the wooden tub.

Once everything was ready, he carefully lifted the sleeping William Newman and gently placed him into the tub.

As soon as William Newman was immersed in the hot water, it instantly reached boiling point and began to bubble furiously.

William Newman turned as red as a cooked shrimp, his whole body flushed, and he couldn't help but cry out in pain.

Strangely, he did not have a high fever today, but as soon as he entered the tub, he still remained unconscious.

Edward Howard released a faint light barrier, isolating the sound, his eyes flickering with a ghostly green light as he quietly watched William Newman.

When the murky medicinal water in the tub once again became clear, Edward Howard returned to normal, the light barrier in the room disappeared, and William Newman slowly woke up.

"Thank you, Mr. Howard." William Newman opened his eyes and immediately felt his whole body filled with strength, without a trace of fatigue.
