William Carter watched carefully. The electronic photo was extremely clear; it must have been taken in space. There were several trees just floating there, full of vitality.
Looking closely, some of the trees were a deep green, others were entirely purple-brown, and there were even blood-red trees—truly bizarre.
How could these trees appear in the sky? No one could understand.
For a while, the train was filled with noise and chatter as people discussed the matter. It was too strange, no small thing, and could easily cause panic.
It wasn’t until the train started up again, whistling into the distance, that people’s attention was diverted and the noise lessened.
“I’m pretty familiar with this route. Back when I studied in the west, I traveled it many times,” Henry Clark said, introducing the cities they passed along the way.
About an hour later, the train stopped again at a certain station.
At the same time, Henry Clark stared out the window in a daze, muttering, “That’s not right, there aren’t any mountains at this station.”
“Yeah, I often take this line too, and there definitely aren’t any huge mountains nearby,” someone else voiced their doubt.
“No, look, everyone—quick! That’s… not a mountain, it’s a giant tree!” someone cried out.
Many people pressed up against the windows, peering out.
William Carter looked on in shock. He could see clearly—it really was a giant tree, so massive it resembled a mountain, standing tall in the distance, almost reaching the clouds.
“Are there any people getting on at this station? Ask them what’s going on!” someone said.
Soon, a few people boarded the train, and what they revealed left everyone stunned and speechless.
It was an ancient ginkgo tree, very famous locally, and had been growing for several centuries. But recently, for some unknown reason, it had started growing wildly.
This had caused a huge sensation in the area, shocking many people.
The area was now sealed off, and no one was allowed near.
“So it’s true! I saw someone post a photo a couple of days ago, but it was mysteriously deleted. I can’t believe this is really happening!” someone in the carriage exclaimed.
Such a bizarre event was truly hard to comprehend.
An ancient tree, though it had existed for ages, couldn’t possibly grow so much in just two or three days. It was beyond belief.
Time passed. After the train stopped, it didn’t move again. In the blink of an eye, more than half an hour had gone by, and they were still at this station.
The attendant explained that another emergency had occurred ahead and was being dealt with, and that they would be on their way soon.
On the train, people couldn’t calm down. They discussed the ancient tree and the strange trees in space—could there be some connection?
Eventually, people grew impatient and some got off the train to walk around.
Henry Clark also got off, but soon returned, looking very odd. He said, “Look what kind of plant I dug up!”
There was some dirt on his hand, and he was holding a common wild grass. But now it was different: it was a vibrant green, full of life, and it even bore a bright red fruit, as big as a fist, giving off a fragrant aroma.
“This is a huge discovery! A weed has grown a bright red fruit, and it smells amazing!” Henry Clark said, his voice trembling.
William Carter felt a chill down his spine. What on earth was happening to this world? It was starting to mutate!
Chapter 0008 The World Has Changed
What Grace Bennett said that day had actually come true—even a weed by the roadside had borne a bright red fruit, fragrant and extraordinary.
William Carter couldn’t calm down, his thoughts surging!
This world was different now, incomprehensible!
William Carter felt a flutter of fear in his heart. Such changes were unsettling; everything was beyond understanding, and all sorts of mutations were happening.
“Is this thing edible?”
It had to be said, Henry Clark was truly bold. Smelling the rich fragrance of the fruit, he was itching to take a bite—even now, he could still think that way.
“Why don’t you try it?”
“No way, I wouldn’t dare. Who knows if it’s poisonous? A weed bearing a bright red fruit—this is like seeing a ghost!” Fat Henry shook his head.
But he still swallowed hard, because the fruit growing on that lush green weed was just too tempting. Its aroma was far stronger than any fruit he’d ever encountered.
Even William Carter was surprised. The fruit glistened like red agate, looking incredibly delicious. How could it have grown from an ordinary weed?
Others on the train were amazed as well, but not too shocked, since so much had happened lately—especially that ancient ginkgo tree in the distance, which was rather unsettling.
A weed bearing fruit was strange, but people weren’t too afraid.
But that giant tree was different. People seriously suspected it might become sentient and cause disaster.
“Let’s get out of here quickly. I just can’t settle down,” a middle-aged man said, his face pale. He hadn’t gotten off the train, just sat there.
But the train, once stopped, didn’t move again, and still hadn’t set off.
Time passed; another quarter of an hour went by. William Carter also got off the train and gazed out from the platform.
That ancient tree was truly majestic, taller than most mountains, its branches and leaves lush and dense, shading the town below. Such a giant tree was bound to cause a sensation.
“Look, see what we brought back.”
