Chapter 20

"You tell me, if I eat it, will something grow out of me too?" Fat Henry asked suspiciously, clearly conflicted.

This time, William Carter didn't laugh. Instead, his expression was solemn. If he hadn't known before, it would have been one thing, but now it seemed that the fruits produced by these mutated plants were anything but ordinary.

"Wait a bit first. Let's see if there are any more reports about the person who grew silver wings," William Carter said.

"Why does it smell so good? What kind of fruit do you have there?" The middle-aged uncle driving the car looked very surprised.

The car sped along, quickly leaving the small city behind, racing down the road toward the horizon.

"It's a wild fruit. I don't know what kind it is, and I don't really dare to eat it," Fat Henry said.

He truly didn't dare eat it recklessly. What if, instead of wings, he grew a horn or a tail? He wouldn't even have anywhere to cry about it.

"If you don't know what it is, don't eat it. If you get poisoned, it'll be a big problem," the middle-aged uncle kindly reminded them. Then he sighed, clearly worried about his family.

He only worked in that small city behind them; his family wasn't there, but in another town hundreds of miles away. He had no idea how things were at home.

Overnight, strange phenomena had appeared in many places. Especially after experiencing it firsthand, he was terrified and just wanted to get home as soon as possible. So, the whole way, he was driving like the wind.

It had to be said, the middle-aged uncle was a skilled driver. His daring overtakes and the constant jolting and swaying nearly made Fat Henry throw up.

"Respect, uncle, I really respect you!" At first, Henry Clark thought it was exciting, but later he was completely wilted, almost foaming at the mouth.

Outside the car window, the trees on both sides of the road flashed by at lightning speed. Even William Carter felt a bit dizzy, genuinely worried that this kind of speeding might lead to an accident.

He looked back. That enormous vine was still a lush, vibrant green, covering the sky and blocking out the sun. It was still clearly visible—they hadn't even left its range yet.

It floated in midair, its main body far from the ground, like a colossal green city reaching the sky, or a range of undulating mountains, vast and boundless.

How huge must it be? But then again, it made sense—otherwise, how could it have pulled down a satellite?

The middle-aged uncle sped for over a hundred miles before finally slowing down as they entered another small city, where there were more vehicles.

"There's a follow-up report—look, that person with silver wings can really fly into the air, and his whole body is surrounded by silver light. It's incredible! But... he looks really majestic!"

Henry Clark showed William Carter a very clear photo of the man on his communicator.

It was a young man, very handsome. When his body emitted silver light, even his pupils shone, silver rays bursting forth, and even his hair became dazzlingly bright.

William Carter was moved. The world was undergoing drastic changes, and some things were becoming harder and harder to understand. Some supernatural phenomena simply couldn't be explained by the world's original rules.

"Why don't they report more? Let that person talk about how he feels," Henry Clark complained, clearly dissatisfied.

He kept searching and finally found another new report.

"This guy was taken away by people from the Tianshen Biotech Group. That's a big company—they'll help him do a full checkup of all his life indicators," Henry Clark said.

Upon hearing this, William Carter frowned slightly. Tianshen Biotech belonged to the Lin family and specialized in biomedicine. He hadn't known this before, but after breaking up with Grace Bennett, he gradually found out.

The name "Tianshen Biotech" really was... William Carter mused. He used to think the Lin family's head was just ambitious, hence the name.

But now, maybe there was a deeper meaning. From Grace Bennett's behavior, he knew that family understood some truths and had long sensed the world was about to change.

After learning about the Lin family's background, he understood why, when he wanted to see Grace Bennett off after graduation, her family had been so cold, leaving him to wave goodbye from afar before leaving.

"What's wrong, bro? Spacing out?" Henry Clark asked when he saw him lost in thought.

"Just thought of my ex-girlfriend," William Carter replied casually.

"Did you break up with her? Regretting it now?" Henry Clark laughed.

"No, she broke up with me," William Carter admitted. There was nothing to hide about it; he didn't feel embarrassed. It was all in the past.

"You got over it that fast?" Henry Clark was surprised, then wailed. His first love had left him heartbroken for two years, and he still hadn't gotten over it. This trip to Tibet was both a revisit to old places and a final attempt to forget.

William Carter said, "Things were always pretty calm between us. We didn't spend that much time together. It started quietly and ended quietly too."

"What happened?" Henry Clark asked curiously.

William Carter shook his head. Although he had let it go, he didn't want to say more.

Finally, after driving hundreds of miles, the middle-aged uncle was almost home. William Carter and Henry Clark couldn't hitch a ride any further and had to get out early.

"I can't see that giant vine anymore!" Henry Clark looked back. The sky was blue and unobstructed. He breathed a long sigh of relief.

In that area, he had always felt an indescribable sense of oppression.

Half an hour later, they entered the neighboring big city and arrived at the long-distance bus station, where there were buses heading north to the Taihang Mountains.
