Grace Carter only felt at ease when she saw her younger brother stirring.
When he woke up, a steaming bowl of noodles was placed in front of him. Logan Walker didn’t care about manners or appearances; he picked up the bowl and, as if he hadn’t eaten in ages, wolfed it down in just a few bites.
He hadn’t even wiped his mouth before muttering, “More.”
Seeing her brother’s hearty appetite and how much he could eat, Grace Carter knew that this time he had truly come back to life. Overjoyed, she hurried off to prepare more food.
When she brought food over again, it was far more than just noodles. There was a big bowl of dumplings, two large bowls of rice, six freshly stir-fried dishes, and a plate of braised pork knuckle.
“Eat up, your sister made all this for you herself.”
The food looked, smelled, and tasted wonderful, making Logan Walker’s mouth water. He grinned at Grace Carter, rolled up his sleeves, and began a feast.
Grace Carter sat to the side, resting her chin in her hands, watching her brother eat the food she had made herself. Her heart was filled with sweetness and warmth.
But as she watched, her expression shifted from happiness to surprise, and then to shock.
Logan Walker’s eating was so ferocious that Grace Carter, as his sister, found it hard to adjust. The food she had brought was disappearing at an astonishing rate, vanishing into her brother’s stomach.
“Wushuang, slow down. If it’s not enough, I’ll make more for you,” Grace Carter couldn’t help but remind him.
“Mmm, delicious! So good!” Logan Walker didn’t have time for more comments, stuffing a piece of braised pork knuckle into his mouth and gnawing away without a care.
In less than ten minutes, all the food was gone. Logan Walker stretched lazily and let out a contented burp.
“Uh, sis… sister, is there anything to drink?”
Grace Carter smiled, “Why so polite with your sister? What would you like to drink?”
“Bring me a pot of Longjing!” Logan Walker said offhandedly.
“Longjing?” Grace Carter’s long eyelashes fluttered as she stared at him with wide eyes, not understanding what he meant.
“It’s tea…” Logan Walker realized this was a strange world; Longjing was a specialty from his previous life—where would he find it here?
“Oh!” Grace Carter understood and hurried off. Soon, she returned with a pot of tea.
The tea tasted quite good, but what caught Logan Walker’s attention even more was the vessel it was served in—a finely crafted bottle, with gold-inlaid, openwork patterns resembling the traces of earthworms burrowing through mud.
In ancient times, when discussing bottles, it was said, “Those with earthworm-trace patterns are especially prized.” If this thing existed in his previous life, it would probably be a treasure lying in the British Museum.
Grace Carter saw him fiddling endlessly with the tea set and felt her brother seemed a bit different. In her eyes, he used to be a quiet, somewhat extreme child, introverted and shy.
But now, his gaze and expressions radiated an indescribable spirit; his words and actions were relaxed and natural, less restrained than before, and more easygoing.
“Sis… is father not home?” Now, with most of Blake Carter’s memories in his mind, he knew his father was called Brian Carter, and his mother had already passed away.
“Dad… dad had something to take care of and went out,” Grace Carter replied hesitantly.
“Where did he go?” Logan Walker felt it might have something to do with him.
“Wushuang, don’t ask about these things. Just focus on getting better. The future of the Qin family depends on you now; you can’t have anything happen to you again.” Grace Carter comforted him, but from her expression, it was clear she was also worried about their father—she just didn’t want her brother to worry.
“Sis, tell me honestly, did father go to the county city to cause trouble with the Zhang family?”
The Zhang family was the clan where the martial servant who killed Blake Carter belonged—a prestigious family in Luojiang County, powerful and well-connected. The declining Qin family simply couldn’t compete.
“No, dad just said he was going out for a bit. He didn’t say where…” Grace Carter looked worried as she spoke of their father.
Logan Walker stood up. “Sis, I’m alive anyway. Have the servants go out and look for him, bring him back.”
From Blake Carter’s memories, he also knew that his father, Brian Carter, appeared gentle and refined but was extremely competitive at heart, valuing the family and his children more than his own life.
His disappearance this time must have a purpose.
Hopefully, nothing major happens. The Qin family estate is weak right now and can’t withstand any big upheaval.
Unconsciously, Logan Walker found himself actively stepping into the role of Blake Carter, actually starting to worry about the fate of the struggling Qin family.
Chapter 0003: A Strong-Willed Father
Brian Carter hadn’t actually gone far; he was just sitting alone in the ancestral hall of the estate. He had been sitting there for three days and two nights.
During those three days and two nights, he did only one thing, and he did it continuously—
Sharpening a spear!
This ancestral spear, its head gleaming with a moon-like cold light, had witnessed the rise and fall of the Qin family estate for hundreds of years, drinking the blood of countless powerful men. Now it was enshrined in the ancestral hall, carrying supreme significance for the family’s legacy.
Whenever the family faced danger, the Qin descendants would take up this ancestral spear, holding up hope for the clan, carving a bloody path, and earning honor for the family.
Brian Carter had dismissed all the servants, allowing no one to disturb him, focusing solely on sharpening this great spear.
