Chapter 8

“Come back to life?” Brian Carter tried to stand up, but felt the world spinning, his steps unsteady, his body light as if in a dream. His son wasn’t dead? He’d come back to life?

Staggering to the door, he was about to open it. Suddenly, a thought struck him and he stopped. He straightened his disheveled clothes, then turned back and respectfully picked up the ancestral spear, placing it back in its place of worship.

After finishing all this, Brian Carter forced himself to suppress his excitement, and only then calmly opened the door.

He was the head of the clan, and also the father of two children. All his emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness—could only be released within the ancestral hall.

Once he stepped out of this door, he had to set an example befitting a clan leader and a father.

Ahead, his daughter Grace Carter ran over with a face full of joy. “Father, father, little brother isn’t dead, he’s come back to life!”

Brian Carter looked at his daughter, then at the excited Jack Carter. Though waves of emotion surged within him, his expression remained as calm as still water, and he only gave a gentle “Mm.”

Yet his steps were swift as he hurried toward the manor.

“Father, wait for me!” Grace Carter couldn’t keep up with her father’s pace at all.

“Young Miss…” Jack Carter called out to Grace Carter, shaking his head gently. “Young Miss, don’t disturb the clan leader. Let him go alone. The clan leader has been sitting here for three days and two nights—he’s suppressed himself for far too long!”

“Uncle Sixi, has father been in the ancestral hall all this time?” Grace Carter looked inside in disbelief.

“He’s been here the whole time, always sharpening the spear.”

Grace Carter was stunned, and suddenly understood. Her face paled, and she asked cautiously, “Uncle Sixi, why was father sharpening the spear?”

Jack Carter sighed, “Young Miss, never mention this in front of the clan leader. Now that the young master has come back to life, all the turmoil is over. Let the ancestral spear remain here in worship.”

This loyal old servant had served Brian Carter for decades and knew the clan leader’s character best. He knew that the clan leader was gentle on the outside but strong within. After the young master’s accident, the clan leader must have been prepared to go down fighting, ready for mutual destruction.

Thank heavens, the young master had finally come back to life. The Qin family manor had also climbed out of the abyss of destruction.

Grace Carter frowned slightly, then looked up at the ancestral teachings in the hall, lost in thought.

……

The moment Logan Walker saw Brian Carter, he knew who he was. That feeling of a father and son’s bond, of blood connection, felt as if it was a fate set in stone from a previous life.

Brian Carter didn’t offer gentle words of comfort—just a simple look, yet it outlined the role of a father who had walked out of the abyss of despair, clear as day.

Was this the legendary fatherly love, as steady as a mountain?

Logan Walker felt a lump in his chest, a tide of emotion, tinged with warmth and a touch of being moved.

It was this very look that let Logan Walker feel the weight of Blake Carter in this man’s heart. He felt all the hardships and pressures of this family.

At the same time, he also sensed the heavy responsibilities that once rested on the shoulders of this new identity.

Now, the real Blake Carter was already dead. These responsibilities, without hesitation, had now fallen onto his—Logan Walker’s—shoulders.

Should he bravely shoulder the burden, or turn away and ignore it all?

His sister Grace Carter’s genuine tears, his father’s eyes full of deep love—these seemed to have already given all the answers.

Chapter 0004: Sister’s Heartache

“Wushuang, that second son of the Zhang family, David Bolton, how did he threaten you and lead you into a duel? Tell your father the details.”

Although his son had come back to life, the anger in Brian Carter’s heart had not subsided. The Zhang family was certainly a prestigious clan, their noble status a level above his humble Qin family, but that didn’t mean Brian Carter would just accept humiliation.

He maintained the demeanor of an elder in front of his children, hiding the fact that he had been sharpening his spear and preparing to risk his life these past two days, but that didn’t mean Brian Carter had let go of this grudge!

How Blake Carter had been forced and lured onto the dueling ground—Logan Walker still had fragments of those memories in his mind. However, he had no intention of dwelling on that painful past.

He replied calmly and openly, “Father, the past is the past. There’s no need to mention it. Let’s look forward.”

Logan Walker didn’t want to make grand promises or empty boasts. After all, with his current status as a defeated general, it would be inappropriate to talk big.

The prestigious Zhang family? The second young master David Bolton?

Logan Walker didn’t see them as anything significant. The former Blake Carter feared them like tigers and wolves, but that was all in the past—fit to be swept into the dustbin of history. Now that he, Logan Walker, had been reborn here, he had no interest in getting entangled in such trivial matters.

His sights were set on the bigger picture of Luojiang County, even the entire Baiyue Kingdom.

“Look forward…” Brian Carter mulled over these words, looking up at his son in surprise. The son before him now had a completely different and unfamiliar aura.

With Blake Carter’s usual extreme personality, after being treated like this by David Bolton, he would surely be filled with hatred, train even harder, and vow revenge. How could he now be so calm and at ease, as if he had already forgotten the shame of that defeat?
