“My point isn’t to swap bunks with you—I’m actually afraid I’d break the bed in the middle of the night and crush you to death! I’m telling you this just so you know: there are some things I didn’t bother arguing about before, but that doesn’t mean I’ll let you walk all over me. Do you understand?”
William Carter was about to go all out on body training in the coming days, so of course he wouldn’t bother fighting over the top or bottom bunk. He just wanted to give Brian Cooper a heads-up, so he’d know where things stood.
In our youth, who hasn’t been bullied? And who hasn’t bullied someone else? William Carter knew his own path and had no intention of turning around to bully these classmates.
“I understand, Mr. Carter. It was all my fault before. I hope you can be the bigger person and let it go, like a prime minister’s belly can hold a boat…”
“That’s enough, no need to flatter me. Just change your ways and we’ll let the past be the past.” William Carter waved his hand, cutting off Brian Cooper.
“Mark Harris, I admit that slap was a bit heavy, but you know better than anyone how much you’ve bullied me these past three years. That slap makes us even, don’t you think?”
Getting slapped in front of so many people was humiliating, but to be fair, Mark Harris deserved it. With all the things he’d done to William Carter, if it were someone else, breaking his leg would’ve been letting him off easy!
Now Mark Harris was already afraid of William Carter, and their positions had completely reversed. Other than silently nodding, what else could he do?
After settling these two, William Carter finally turned his gaze to the face of Edward Grant, who had just stood up!
“Edward Grant, I know you’re not convinced, and I don’t care if you are or not. There are only two months left until the big competition… uh, the college entrance exam. After that, we’ll all go our separate ways. I don’t want to cause trouble, but I’m even less willing to let others treat me like a pushover, to be squeezed however they want! Do you get what I mean?”
William Carter saw the humiliation and fury in Edward Grant’s eyes, as if they were about to spit fire, but he didn’t care at all and continued speaking.
He didn’t take these minor characters in the dorm seriously at all.
Edward Grant’s face was full of resentment. He now knew he was no match for William Carter, so when he heard William Carter’s arrogant, domineering words, he didn’t argue back. He just stewed in his anger, plotting how to regain his dignity.
Seeing Edward Grant stay silent, William Carter said coolly, “Let me warn you, this was just a minor punishment. I advise you not to test my limits again. Next time, it won’t end so easily!”
After saying this, William Carter didn’t even spare Edward Grant another glance. Instead, he smiled and nodded at Henry Clark, “If anyone dares mess with you in the future, just let me know!”
With that, he got up, grabbed his washbasin and towel from under the bed, and went straight out to the washroom.
As for Samuel Reed, there was nothing about him in the memory fragments William Carter had received, so he simply ignored him.
After William Carter left, the atmosphere in dorm 305 became suffocating. No one spoke, no one even moved. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
What does it mean to be intimidating? What does it mean to be arrogant?! This is it!
After a long while, Brian Cooper finally glanced sideways at the badly humiliated Edward Grant and Mark Harris, his expression a bit awkward as he said, “Ahem, dorm leader, Mark Harris, are you guys alright?”
Mark Harris spat, though it was unclear if he was trying to get rid of the blood in his mouth or expressing his contempt for Brian Cooper’s fence-sitting. He didn’t say a word, just silently returned to his bed and moved his pillow to the other end.
At least he knew his place. He still wanted to step on William Carter’s head? He should be glad William Carter wasn’t stepping on his!
Edward Grant snorted through his nose in response to Brian Cooper, then grabbed his towel and roughly wiped the dirt off his chest and back before climbing into bed.
William Carter had gone to the washroom. Even though Edward Grant now hated him enough to want to tear him to pieces, and kept scheming about how to get back at him, when it came to facing William Carter alone, he was honestly scared!
He couldn’t really complain to Brian Cooper either. After all, he’d started the whole thing, and Brian Cooper had no reason to get dragged into a beating with him. He could also see that with the way William Carter had just acted, even if all four of them ganged up, they’d still just get beaten!
Samuel Reed looked at the other three, opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end just sighed and quietly climbed into bed.
Once everyone was back in their beds, Henry Clark, who was still stunned by William Carter’s dramatic transformation, kept thinking of the phrase “Ten years of hard study, unknown to all; one leap to fame, known by the world,” but suddenly felt it didn’t quite fit.
So he switched to another saying: “A gentleman’s revenge is never too late, even after ten years!”
Henry Clark thought for a moment, then gently broke the oppressive atmosphere in dorm 305 with a single sentence: “We’re all classmates and roommates, and we’re about to graduate. Let’s just get along from now on.”
It was both a comfort and a subtle warning.
“Still not convinced? Well, that’s just because this is the real world. If we were in the cultivation world, I wouldn’t care if you were from the same sect or not—you’d have been beaten until your body and soul were destroyed, never to be reborn!”
“You’re lucky this time, just happened to catch me in a good mood. If you dare try anything again, I’ll beat you so bad you won’t even be able to cry!”
