Chapter 17

She was beautiful! So beautiful she seemed otherworldly, ethereal and light! She was at least 1.7 meters tall, and compared to the other girls standing in the hallway, she was truly a crane among chickens. Her figure was exquisitely curvaceous, her face delicate and lovely, her neck snowy white and smooth like a swan’s, alluring and graceful. If Grace Brooks was as dazzling and radiant as a peony, then she was a solitary orchid in a secluded valley, peerless and independent.

Proud by nature, with an ethereal temperament—so-called earthly beauty was nothing more than this.

Her long ponytail was simply tied with a red ribbon, her skin was fair, delicate, and translucent, her neck slender, her chin pointed, her eyes large, tears blurring her vision, making her look so pitiful and endearing!

Olivia Parker was in Class One of the third year of high school. She was almost the first in her class to rush out of the classroom, and when she saw the chubby boy on the field running madly with a sandbag on his shoulders, stumbling with every step, her tears poured out in an instant!

“William Carter gege! I knew you wouldn’t let me down, I knew you could do it... Mom was right, you wouldn’t let us down, you really didn’t let us down! Gege!”

Chapter 008 Olivia Parker

Through her blurred eyes, scene after unforgettable scene of warmth replayed before Olivia Parker’s eyes!

“Why are you so careless? If you tear your clothes, Mom will have to stay up late to mend them again!” A delicate-looking, pure-eyed boy of about seven or eight years old struggled to pull up the little Little Olivia, who had accidentally fallen to the ground, gently patting the dust off her pants as he spoke.

“This piece of milk candy is for you, gege doesn’t like sweets!” Their mother had only given them two candies. William Carter licked his lips and swallowed hard, then, while their mother was in the kitchen cooking, he handed the candy to the hopeful-looking Little Olivia.

“If you dare bully my little sister, I’ll fight you all!” The nine-year-old William Carter stubbornly stood in front of Little Olivia, clenching his little fists, fiercely warning the group of kids who wanted to bully Olivia Parker.

“Don’t be afraid, little sister, don’t worry, gege will protect you...” After the fight, with his face bruised and swollen, William Carter forced a smile through the pain, gently patting Olivia Parker’s small shoulder to comfort her.

Whenever William Carter smiled, a shallow dimple would appear on his left cheek, giving Olivia Parker a proud sense of security. She would nod her pretty little head vigorously.

One warm memory after another replayed before her eyes like a film, until time finally reached six years ago! That year, William Carter had just turned twelve, and Olivia Parker was also twelve.

A single sentence from someone else ruthlessly tore apart the emotional defenses of the now-aware siblings!

“Her surname is Ning, yours is Ling, you’re not real siblings at all! You’re a stray kid her mom picked up from the roadside! An unwanted stray!”

For the first time, William Carter didn’t stand in front of his sister, for the first time he was completely silent, for the first time he didn’t clench his fists and fight back!

The pure, brave, and kind heart of a young boy was shattered by a single malicious, cutting remark!

It turned out that Olivia Parker had fallen seriously ill less than a month after she was born, and William Carter was picked up by their mother at the temple gate while she was still recovering from childbirth.

In the simple bedding, there was only a slip of paper with the words “William Carter” on it, and nothing else as a keepsake. Clearly, William Carter’s biological parents had intended to abandon him to his fate.

The siblings had always known they weren’t related by blood, but their bond was even closer than that of real siblings! Olivia Parker had always regarded William Carter as her real brother.

Even after hearing those words, she still followed William Carter as always, and even secretly complained to their mother about not changing William Carter’s surname to William Parker.

She naively thought that if they did, her brother wouldn’t be attacked with such cruel words.

But their mother only said calmly, “He’s called William Carter, just William Carter. I won’t change his name. That way, if his real parents ever want to find him, it’ll be easier.”

Little Olivia complained, but she accepted her mother’s explanation.

What Olivia Parker didn’t expect was that after hearing those words, William Carter changed—completely!

He became withdrawn and silent, gave up on himself, became self-abasing and reclusive. He no longer shielded her from the wind and rain, no longer bravely stood in front of her, fists raised against the bullies.

But Olivia Parker knew that William Carter was still protecting her, just in a different way.

Whenever he noticed someone wanted to bully her, William Carter would choose to let those boys beat him up, on the condition that they didn’t bully his little sister!

Who else but her knew that William Carter got so fat just so it would hurt less when he was beaten?

What Olivia Parker didn’t know was that the reason William Carter chose this way was because he realized that, although he was taller than his peers, his body was frighteningly weak!

He never told anyone about this; he just bore it silently. A single careless, malicious remark from a bad kid had struck at the deepest root of William Carter’s inferiority, causing his personality to change drastically!
