Chapter 11

Megan Brooks really didn’t want to roll her eyes so much—her eyes would cramp up if she kept doing it—but she still couldn’t help giving Ethan Cooper another one, asking irritably, “Are you from outer space or something? You don’t even know how to use a water heater?”

Ethan Cooper looked embarrassed. He had never even heard of a water heater, let alone knew how to use one.

Seeing him like this, Megan Brooks suddenly realized—she must have knocked his brain loose. With no choice, she patiently led him to the water heater, pointed out which was the switch, which way to turn it on, which way to turn it off. Watching his clueless, country-bumpkin look, she simply explained the use of shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, facial cleanser, toothpaste, toothbrush, and so on, one by one. At the end, she asked, “Did you get all that?”

Ethan Cooper nodded. He wasn’t a child, and he wasn’t mentally handicapped. He’d never seen these things before, but the way to use them was simple enough—once explained, he understood.

Warm water poured down over Ethan Cooper’s head, the fine streams spreading out like rain from the sky, washing over his body. The sensation was both comfortable and strange, and it also cleared his mind.

This was a new era, more than a thousand years in the future. This was also a new turning point in his life!

In the Liao Dynasty, he’d never had a good day, always looked down on and bullied before he learned martial arts and medicine. Just as he was about to make something of himself, he got caught up in that mess with the empress and nearly lost his life.

Since fate had played such a trick and brought him here by accident, if he kept living a useless, cowardly life, he really wouldn’t be able to respect himself.

Here, he was determined to live well—better than in the Liao Dynasty, better than ever before.

Power, status, money, women—he had to have them all. Here, he was going to shine, become a man above all others, become an absolute powerhouse.

The environment wouldn’t change for him, so from this moment on, he needed to work hard to fit into this new world and its new things...

At last, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. Megan Brooks was relieved—let him figure it out himself. As she turned to leave, she suddenly remembered something: when she’d brought him clothes earlier, she’d only brought outerwear and pants, not underwear. She hadn’t seen any underwear in her father’s clothing chest either. What should she do?

Let him go commando without underwear? That didn’t seem right. What if something embarrassing happened? That would be too awkward.

Give him hers to wear? Never mind the difference in male and female anatomy—just imagining a big, strapping man wearing a pair of women’s underwear was enough to make her skin crawl.

After thinking it over, she decided to go to the 24-hour “Meiyijia” supermarket at the corner and buy him a couple of pairs.

A woman buying men’s underwear was about as awkward as a man buying sanitary pads.

While picking out underwear for Ethan Cooper, the familiar supermarket owner kept giving her strange and complicated looks. The owner knew Megan Brooks had always been single, so seeing her suddenly buying men’s underwear in the middle of the night, he figured she must have a man now. He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: another good woman snatched away by a wolf.

Megan Brooks practically fled back home with two boxes of men’s underwear. The supermarket owner’s odd looks had really gotten to her. She tried to convince herself angrily: So what if I buy men’s underwear? Who says women can’t buy men’s underwear? Can’t I buy them for my brother?

Brother? At that thought, Megan Brooks’s eyes dimmed. She was five years older than him—if not a brother, what else could he be?

The sound of running water was still coming from the bathroom. Ethan Cooper was clearly still showering!

Megan Brooks put the boxes of underwear on the table, turned on the TV, and sat there in a daze. If Ethan Cooper’s mind really couldn’t be cured, would she have to take care of him for the rest of her life? Would she never get married?

Sigh. So be it. After so many years as a pharmaceutical rep, she’d seen countless men, and there was hardly a good one among them. If she hadn’t been shrewd and adaptable, she’d have been ruined long ago.

She’d take him to see a doctor tomorrow, hoping he could be cured. That way, she wouldn’t have to waste his life and hers together.

By the time she snapped out of her messy thoughts, an hour had passed, but the sound of water from the bathroom was still going!

Showering for so long—did he think water was free? But then she suddenly realized, her water heater was actually a bit dangerous. That guy might be strong and sturdy, but he was still a patient with a brain problem. What if he’d gotten carbon monoxide poisoning?

Ethan Cooper still hadn’t finished his shower. Megan Brooks couldn’t take it anymore. Alarmed, she went over and knocked on the door. After knocking a few times with no response from inside—

She instinctively turned the handle and rushed in, only to be shocked to find Ethan Cooper standing under the shower with his eyes closed, completely unscathed—and, of course, not wearing anything. Who showers with their clothes on, anyway!
