After glancing several times, Megan Brooks's heart started pounding wildly. The unclothed Ethan Cooper had such well-proportioned features; the muscles on his body formed graceful curves—solid but not at all exaggerated. A bit more would be too rough, a bit less too thin; it was the perfect balance.
He was good-looking, truly exceptionally good-looking. Although Megan Brooks's face was flushed red, she still couldn't help but steal glance after glance. Then she pretended to be extremely angry and said, "Honestly, if you're going to take a shower, just shower! Why are you daydreaming? You don't care about other people's feelings at all! Hurry up, the water bill is expensive!"
With that, she tossed a box of underwear over, quickly closed the door, and fled as if escaping.
Women, just like men, are full of curiosity and desire toward the opposite sex. It's just that men are used to being direct, while women are naturally reserved.
Ethan Cooper felt quite wronged. I was just taking a shower, and you suddenly barged in, looked me up and down, and then left without even an apology. Did you ever consider my feelings?
When he came out of the bathroom, he was wearing Megan Brooks's father's clothes. Although they were from more than ten years ago, when he stood in front of Megan Brooks, he still made her eyes light up. The dress pants and shirt made him look both gentle and refined, yet with a youthful flair—especially those deep eyes that didn't match his age, which made Megan Brooks lose focus several times.
All men are wolves; don't let their sheep-like appearance fool you, or you'll be eaten down to the bone. Megan Brooks warned herself like this, but when she recalled the scene in the bathroom, she couldn't help but feel her face heat up, her heart race, and her mind wander.
A single man and woman alone in a room—if they lose control even a little, mistakes will happen. This man may be silly, but he's still a man, and as for herself, well, she's a sensitive woman. To prevent anything from happening, Megan Brooks thought the safest way was to go to bed early. So, after steadying herself, she opened a door and said to Ethan Cooper, "Tonight, you'll have to make do in my dad's study!"
Ethan Cooper nodded, not feeling wronged at all. If he could sleep in ruined temples and broken shrines in the wilderness, how could he complain about having a bed, a blanket, and a roof over his head?
Megan Brooks's father, Brian Brooks, was a history teacher before he passed away. There wasn't much in the study, except for history books—those were everywhere. Looking along the bookshelf, it was all thick volumes: "Records of the Grand Historian," "Book of Han," "Book of Documents," "Outline of National History," "A Brief History of Chinese Nationalities," "China: A Macro History," "General History of China," "Historical Sketches of Past Dynasties," "Collection of Ancient Records"… These books were enough for Ethan Cooper to thoroughly understand all the dynasties he had missed. But because ancient traditional characters are very different from modern simplified ones, Ethan Cooper had to work hard to slowly adapt.
That night, Ethan Cooper didn't sleep. He had already slept long enough—just a blink of an eye, and more than a thousand years had passed. There was so much history he had missed; he had to cram as much as possible now.
By noon the next day, Ethan Cooper was still reading "General History of China." After a night of cramming, he finally believed that the Liao Dynasty had indeed perished, and that several dynasties had come and gone since then—over a thousand years in total—until now!
As he was engrossed in the history books, there was a knock at the door. When he opened it, he saw Megan Brooks standing outside in pajamas, her hair messy and still looking sleepy. Even so, she had a kind of lazy beauty. "Are you hungry? If you are, I'll make you something to eat. After we eat, we'll go to the hospital!"
"Why are we going to the Imperial Hospital?" Ethan Cooper's face changed dramatically. The Imperial Hospital was a place of bad luck for him. But then he quickly smiled wryly and returned to normal—there was no more Liao Dynasty, so how could there be an Imperial Hospital?
"You're sick, of course you need to see a doctor!" Megan Brooks casually ran her hand through her hair as she spoke, causing her pajamas to ride up naturally with the motion.
"I'm not sick, why would I see a doctor? Besides, I'm a doctor myself!" Ethan Cooper clearly saw the mature beauty's fullness and fair skin. It turned out Megan Brooks was used to being alone; at night, she only wore underwear and pajamas to bed, nothing else. So this movement was quite a treat for Ethan Cooper's eyes.
If it's improper to look, then you should look all the more—otherwise, you'd be letting yourself down. So Ethan Cooper stared at her without even blinking.
Noticing Ethan Cooper's strange gaze, Megan Brooks finally realized what was happening. Her pretty face instantly turned red. She turned around in a panic, pulling down her clothes, and tried to cover her embarrassment with an indisputable tone: "I'm going to make breakfast! After we eat, we're going to the hospital."
Going to the bedroom instead of the kitchen to cook—how odd, Ethan Cooper thought in confusion. But how could he know that Megan Brooks was actually going to put on that thing they used to call a dudou in the Liao Dynasty!
Megan Brooks's cooking smelled wonderful. To celebrate Ethan Cooper's arrival, she took out all the food from the fridge and made a table full of delicious dishes.
Unfortunately, someone didn't appreciate it, sitting there with a sullen face, not picking up a bowl or chopsticks.
"What's wrong? You don't like the food?" Megan Brooks asked in disappointment. This was her first time cooking for a man, and she hadn't expected this result.
"I repeat, I'm a doctor. I'm not sick, and I don't need to go to the hospital!" Ethan Cooper declared solemnly once again.
