Chapter 4

It turned out to be a rabbit eating grass! Goodness, that rabbit was quite bold, daring to enter the territory of the innate white tiger. You have to know, in this godforsaken place, even birds would rather not pass by. The white orbs of light spat from the innate white tiger’s mouth could easily shoot down any low-flying bird.

The rabbit was huge, at least three or four times the size of an ordinary rabbit on Earth, weighing about ten jin or so. Brian Carter licked his lips. For more than two months, thanks to that dead white tiger, he hadn’t tasted even a bit of meat, eating nothing but nameless fruits from the trees every day. His mouth had long since lost all flavor. The appearance of this rabbit truly made Brian Carter as excited as if he’d been injected with a shot of adrenaline.

Reaching for the long knife on his back, its rust already worn away, Brian Carter carefully jumped from the treetop to the tree closest to the rabbit. Focusing his eyes on the rabbit, he saw a faint white mist swirling around its body. It seemed this rabbit had lived a long life, with an abundance of spiritual energy accumulated within. With such rich spiritual energy, it was as if it already had one foot in the innate realm. This realization made Brian Carter even more excited. After all, the accumulation of spiritual energy from heaven and earth is a long process—from absorption to expelling impurities, the amount of pure true energy that can be extracted is less than one percent.

And once any creature dies, the spiritual energy accumulated within immediately dissipates and returns to nature.

However, in Brian Carter’s sect, there was a special technique. At the very instant the prey was killed, this unique method could be used to absorb a portion of the spiritual energy into one’s own body and temporarily store it. Although, due to various limitations, at most only one-tenth of the prey’s spiritual energy could be absorbed at a time, don’t forget that the spiritual energy within living beings has already been refined by nature—extremely pure and highly effective.

Since Brian Carter began cultivating, he had never used this technique, simply because he never had the chance. The only innate white tiger he’d seen was far beyond his ability to handle. Brian Carter held his breath, pressed himself against the tree trunk, and silently reviewed the technique in his mind while waiting for the rabbit to finish eating. Any creature, after eating its fill, will inevitably let its guard down. Although rabbits aren’t known for their combat ability, this one’s true energy was nearly perfected—who knows, it might be quite formidable. This rare opportunity for Brian Carter demanded the utmost caution.

Finally, the rabbit stopped chewing grass. Brian Carter raised his voice and suddenly shouted. The long knife in his hand shot down like a bolt of lightning, carrying all of Brian Carter’s energy and focus. The rabbit was clearly startled by the sudden shout, and just as it was about to react and flee, the swiftly thrown knife pierced straight through its body with a whoosh. Blocked by the hilt, the massive rabbit was pinned alive to the ground, its limbs kicking wildly.

Fearing any mishap, Brian Carter immediately leapt forward, rubbing his hands into a palm strike, and severed the rabbit’s neck in one blow. With his heightened senses, he instantly felt the spiritual energy dissipating. Brian Carter hurriedly used the special technique to store a portion of the rapidly dispersing spiritual energy in his meridians. After a bit of refining, it could be fully converted into his own true energy.

Feeling the abundant spiritual energy within his body, Brian Carter was overjoyed. He drew his knife, hoisted the rabbit onto his shoulder, and ran straight toward the nearby cave entrance. That dead white tiger was extremely fierce and hunted with incredible speed. He didn’t dare linger outside any longer—better not risk any delay.

Chapter Three: Wonderful Roasted Meat

While Brian Carter was lost in his own thoughts, a deafening tiger’s roar erupted behind him. The white tiger had just returned from hunting, and upon seeing its enemy outside the cave, how could it possibly hold back? With a mighty roar, it charged at full speed.

As for Brian Carter, he was drenched in cold sweat. Knowing he was no match for the white tiger, he didn’t dare look back. Biting his tongue to stay alert, he forced his true energy to its limit, barely touching the ground with his toes as he desperately sprinted toward the life-saving cave entrance. The few hundred meters felt as distant as the horizon, the tiger’s roars like death knells, shaking his very soul. He ran so fast that the wind howled past his ears.

Just a few meters from the cave entrance, the white tiger finally caught up. Brian Carter suddenly felt a heavy weight on his shoulder, and in a panic, he kicked off with all his strength. Amid the sound of tearing fabric, he felt his body lighten, and shot into the cave like a cannonball. His shoulder slammed into the stone floor, making him see stars. The pain was intense, but at that moment, he felt an indescribable sense of relief—escaping the tiger’s jaws, surviving a deadly ordeal. The feeling was so wonderful, it almost made him want to cry.

At this point, Brian Carter was nearly exhausted, lying motionless on the ground like a pile of mud, slowly recovering his true energy. He let the white tiger roar endlessly at the cave entrance, its mouth firing white orbs of light at the barrier. Brian Carter wasn’t worried at all that it could break through—the old man had said that for three months, not even an immortal could get in, let alone a mere innate white tiger. Besides, this wasn’t the first time the white tiger had made such a fuss.
