Chapter 6

“Alright, since you spoke, I’ll give you some.” Brian Carter didn’t mind at all, smiling slyly like a miser as he cut off a small piece and tossed it in a parabola toward the white tiger.

The white tiger reacted with lightning speed, twisting its massive head to snatch the meat in its jaws and gulping it down. Its head gave a little tilt, and it smacked its lips a few times, as if savoring the taste. In the next instant, its tiger eyes were once again fixed on Brian Carter.

Brian Carter was having fun now, cutting the remaining rabbit meat into several pieces—some thrown far, some near. But the white tiger caught every single one with remarkable agility, making Brian Carter’s eyes widen in amazement. Damn, this white tiger is really fast. It’s pure luck I managed to escape from its claws twice. After tossing the last piece of rabbit meat, Brian Carter spread his hands to show there was no more. The white tiger glanced at him, ignored him, and simply strolled to the side, lying down to nap.

It was also time for Brian Carter’s daily cultivation. In this place where danger lurked everywhere, Brian Carter had considered sneaking away while the white tiger was out hunting. But he could imagine that the old man wouldn’t be so kind as to let him leave so easily. Who knew—other places might be even more dangerous. If he really wanted to leave, he’d have to wait until a day or two before the restriction at the cave entrance expired. Until then, the only option was to improve his strength as much as possible.

He had already mastered the introductory cultivation technique over the past two months. Now, he sat cross-legged on the withered grass and branches, forming hand seals, and quickly settled his mind. In an instant, all distracting thoughts were pushed aside. With every breath, a bit of spiritual energy was drawn into his body. The true qi in his dantian, guided by his will, slowly circulated through his meridians, incorporating the spiritual energy absorbed from the rabbit, constantly adding, cycling, and refining it. The remaining impurities and turbid qi were exhaled with each breath. Every time the true qi completed eighty-one cycles, a cool sensation would spread from the top of his head, down his cheeks and neck, and finally throughout his whole body. This feeling, akin to the pleasure of sex, was unforgettable. In the cultivation manual, this phenomenon was called “enlightenment.” Each time it occurred, it greatly benefited the cultivator—not only did the true qi become purer and more abundant, but the body was also improved and strengthened.

According to the manual, the first enlightenment usually took years of cultivation to achieve. But Brian Carter, thanks to the planet’s abundant spiritual energy and the pressure of life-and-death situations, reached this state in just a few dozen days. This was already his third time experiencing enlightenment. This time, the pleasure was especially intense, and his true qi made a significant leap in strength—clearly, absorbing a tenth of the rabbit’s spiritual energy played a major role. It seemed that, with Earth’s scarce spiritual energy and slow cultivation, the old man had sent him here for a reason. Brian Carter couldn’t help but speculate.

Brian Carter slowly opened his eyes, a flash of light quickly fading from them. He jumped up and down a few times, feeling as light as a swallow, and a satisfied smile appeared on his lips. He couldn’t help but think of the benefits from that rabbit—if only he had rabbits of that level every day, lining up to be killed and have their spiritual energy absorbed, he’d probably reach the innate realm in no time. Unlike wild animals, Brian Carter had the support of a true cultivation technique; as long as the conditions were met, advancing from acquired to innate was easy.

Unfortunately, such adorable, foolish rabbits were hard to come by. Other species that had naturally reached the peak of the acquired stage would never be as stupid as that rabbit, letting themselves be killed so easily.

He calmed his mind, stopping his wild thoughts. Based on his experience, this meditation session had lasted a whole day. Just as he looked up at the white tiger, he was stunned. The white tiger was standing dozens of meters from the cave entrance, watching Brian Carter from afar. At the mouth of the cave lay a freshly killed, plump antelope.

As soon as Brian Carter woke up, the white tiger roared, raised its paw, and pointed at the antelope at the cave entrance. Damn, this white tiger has developed a taste for it and now thinks I’m its chef, Brian Carter cursed. Seeing this, how could he not understand? Still, with the tiger out hunting, at least he’d have meat to eat every day.

Feigning indifference, Brian Carter waited until the white tiger was far away, then dragged the dead antelope inside. A mischievous idea came to him, and he beckoned the white tiger over. After a long while, the white tiger finally ambled to the cave entrance, looking at Brian Carter, not understanding why he hadn’t started yet. Brian Carter gestured and said he wanted it alive. But the poor white tiger couldn’t understand him at all, so Brian Carter had to get down on the ground and imitate an animal running, then pointed at the dead antelope on the ground, shaking his hand and head.

Finally, the white tiger seemed to get it. With a roar, it dashed off into the distance. Sure enough, in no time, it returned with a lively fawn in its mouth, dropping it on the ground before running off again.
