Chapter 15

His biological mother was still young and loved looking good. If she had a bit of spare money, she would go shopping at the department store, and she never went so far as to save money by not even daring to buy meat.

This was absolutely the thing he was happiest about after being reborn.

But the way he watched the show and laughed was just too cheeky, and soon he drew trouble onto himself, earning simultaneous eye-rolls from both his parents.

“William Carter, what are you laughing at? Do you also think I shouldn’t have bought this wool coat?”

William Carter wiped the smile off his face. “Mom, I’m going to make a lot of money in the future. I’ll never let you buy outdated discount clothes again, and I won’t let Dad go all the way to that far-off market anymore.”

Yvonne Cooper was momentarily stunned, her gaze instantly softening. “That’s my good son. Don’t be like your dad, always penny-pinching.”

“When have I ever been penny-pinching…”

John Carter’s voice grew weaker, clearly lacking confidence. But when he turned around, he saw his wife had already opened the shopping bag, and inside were rolls and rolls of toilet paper.

“What’s this?”

“Stock from the guesthouse. The boss said it all had to be replaced, so I brought it home. You think you’re the only one who knows how to be frugal?”

Yvonne Cooper said crossly, then turned and went into the kitchen.

John Carter was dumbfounded, thinking, This is a sting operation!

Chapter 10: How to Quickly and Effectively Make Good Friends

In the early morning, sunlight slanted in through the window, spilling across the head of the bed.

William Carter suddenly opened his eyes, ran out the door to the bathroom, and after squatting on the toilet for three minutes, stood up again, feeling dazed and confused.

Damn, he’d forgotten he’d already been reborn—he no longer had that problem of getting diarrhea every morning.

But since he was already up, there was no reason to go back to sleep.

William Carter washed up, hung his towel, went downstairs to the storage room to get his bicycle, and headed to the Jizhou City Library.

On the second floor of the library, he immediately spotted Ethan Foster.

Today, she was wearing a black-and-white checkered dress, her long hair falling to her waist, her eyes bright and clear. At that moment, she was standing on tiptoe searching for a book on the shelf. The pose made her slender waist perfectly straight, her body leaning forward slightly, showing off her graceful curves.

“What are you looking for?”

“I want to read that book.”

Ethan Foster turned to glance at him, her slender finger pointing to the row above.

William Carter walked over, helped her get the book, handed it to her, and then the two of them returned to their familiar corner and sat in their usual spots.

Then, Ethan Foster opened her small leather purse, pulled out a bank card from the Industrial and Commercial Bank, and slapped it right in front of him.

“For you!”

To be honest, William Carter felt a bit embarrassed.

A thirty-eight-year-old man borrowing money from an eighteen-year-old girl—how could he not feel awkward?

What’s more, the first thing Ethan Foster did after sitting down was to take out this card, even before he could ask, which meant she’d been thinking about it all along.

That was actually kind of touching.

William Carter picked up the bank card, pinched it between his fingers, still feeling a bit unreal.

Just like that, she lent him the money?

He still remembered back in 2016, when he was fired as a scapegoat and had to borrow money everywhere for rent. He’d gotten plenty of cold shoulders. It wasn’t exactly a psychological shadow, but it definitely didn’t feel good.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Uh… what’s the password?”

“Six eights.”

Rich people’s bank card passwords really are simple. William Carter put the card in his pocket and patted it twice, only feeling at ease when he could feel the outline of the card through the fabric.

He wanted to ask how much money was in the card, but after hesitating for a while, he didn’t have the nerve, because it felt a bit rude and too direct.

Forget it, whatever’s in there is in there.

But it was probably the young lady’s New Year’s money or pocket money—at most eighty or ninety thousand, maybe even less.

He planned to use this money to try flipping it for a month, see if he could double it, then buy an old, run-down apartment in the city center and make a profit when it got demolished.

Then he’d pay Ethan Foster back, see how much was left, and start his real business plan.

“You already got a bank card this early?”

“It’s not mine,” Ethan Foster replied calmly.

William Carter had just asked casually, but when he heard the answer, he was stunned, and his eyes widened. “It’s not your card? Then whose is it?”

Ethan Foster lifted her clear eyes. “My dad’s.”

“You’re giving me your dad’s money to spend?”

“Is… is that okay?”

Ethan Foster looked a bit confused, as if she wasn’t sure if this was the right thing to do, so she tossed the question back to William Carter.

William Carter was completely at a loss.

What kind of relationship would let a girl give him her dad’s money to spend?

The key was, he and Ethan Foster really weren’t close. Even though they were at the same school, they weren’t in the same class. They’d only read books and eaten snacks together a few times in the past few days, barely even talked. Taking this money felt like holding a hot potato.

After hesitating for a long time, William Carter reluctantly took the card out of his pocket and handed it back to Ethan Foster.
