Chapter 18

William Carter couldn't help but glance at him. "Why the hell do you have so many questions? Aren't you going to the party?"

  "I'm going…"

Chapter 12: A Day Trip with Little Rich Girl

After sending David Harris away, William Carter also left the beef noodle shop, headed to the Jeju City Library, and then picked up his sponsor, Little Rich Girl, to go to the small commodities market.

Today, Ethan Foster was wearing a fairy-like floral dress, a black leather crossbody bag, and brown little leather shoes, revealing a bit of lace-trimmed sheer socks—she looked every bit the young girl.

If you had to sum it up with the greasy soul of a thirty-eight-year-old, she was so tender you could almost squeeze water out of her.

She strolled along the narrow pedestrian path, her clear, bright eyes wandering, full of curiosity about the goods displayed on the stalls.

This small commodities market was quite famous among South City High School students, because most of what was sold here were knockoffs—very cheap, and with a wide variety.

  Students really are broke.

Especially the day students, who eat at home morning and night, so they barely have any pocket money.

So on weekends, they would come here in groups of three or five, but what they bought were mostly things that looked good but weren't actually useful.

Ethan Foster had probably heard people at school talk about this place, which is why she specifically wanted to come check it out.

"Why do they have so many car keys here?"

  "Ah… those are actually lighters."

"Do you need to take a test for a 'beauty license'? I want to get one."

"That's fake, it doesn't mean anything. If you want one, just buy it—one yuan each."

"William Carter, I'm thirsty, I want a Sprite."

"You're mistaken, that's its knockoff version, 'Leibi.'"

"Why is this pair of underwear still on sale when it's split down the middle?"

"Uh, you're still young, don't ask about adult stuff."

Three minutes later, Ethan Foster stopped in front of a shop at the corner, unable to move her feet.

In front of her was a Hello Kitty kiddie ride, flashing lights and cheerfully calling out for little friends to come play.

Ethan Foster turned her head and quietly looked at William Carter, a hint of determination flickering in her cool gaze, leaving William Carter completely baffled.

"Don't tell me you want to ride this?"

"Miss, listen to me first, this thing is for kids under eight."

"You're already eighteen. If you ride this, you'll die of embarrassment on the spot."

William Carter tried to talk her out of it. This toy might light up, move, and even sing, but if you're not wearing split-crotch pants, you have no business riding it.

But three minutes later, a lovely song drifted from the shop at the corner.

What do you call your dad's dad? Dad's dad is called grandpa…

A beautiful young girl sat on top, her expression cool and calm, but a clear joy sparkled in her eyes.

William Carter weighed the change he got from the shop, couldn't help but laugh, then leaned his shoulder against the doorframe, quietly watching her.

That day, he had accidentally seen a laminated schedule in Ethan Foster's bag: piano and violin practice in the morning, ballet and judo at noon, news and finance reading at night. Only in the afternoon did this girl get a chance to catch her breath at the library.

Little Rich Girl probably didn't have much of a childhood…

That's why she had no friends, didn't know how to socialize, became socially anxious, and was misunderstood as being aloof.

William Carter smiled and stopped paying attention, instead casually pulling out the contract from his bag.

He now had four resettlement apartments, all different sizes, costing a total of 2.73 million from his account.

The compensation plan for the old city renovation in Jeju City hadn't been announced yet, and he hadn't seen it in his previous life either, but based on the compensation his third uncle got in Lianqiao, the payout for Fanhuali should reach 1:2.8. Xingfu Community and Hongyun Community were in more remote locations, so their compensation wouldn't be as high—at most 1:2.1.

He wasn't sure about Rongcheng, but it should be around 1:2.4.

Jeju isn't Beijing or Shenzhen; getting rich overnight from resettlement is almost impossible. Being able to get this kind of ratio is already rare—what more could you ask for?

You know, even Qianba Village on the North Second Ring was included in the resettlement plan back in 2018, but the compensation ratio was only 1:1.3.

  What does this mean?

It means that resettlement, like love, is all about timing.

Once the compensation comes in, William Carter will pay back the money he borrowed from Ethan Foster. By then, he should still have one or two million left, plus four apartments.

Of course, he could just take the money and not the apartments, but if he cashed out directly, it definitely wouldn't be at market value. So the best way is to sell them himself after getting them, but that depends on the location of the new apartments. If it's an area that's going to skyrocket, he'll definitely keep them.

And while waiting for the compensation, William Carter didn't plan to sit idle.

He would withdraw another 270,000 to start a small business.

Buying resettlement apartments is a bit of a shortcut, but real entrepreneurship is a whole different story. If he wanted to quickly get into the mindset of an entrepreneur, he had to get familiar with business processes and tricks.

So he would use this 270,000 as seed money to try something small in Jeju—consider it a trial run before officially starting a business.
