Chapter 14

“Has the war already reached such a remote place? That means the situation in our Shenlong Kingdom is far more severe than when we left.” Gregory slapped the warhorse beneath him and charged out of the forest, shouting loudly, “Knights of the kingdom! Charge out to defend our country and strike down those rebellious bandits!”

“For the kingdom!” A dozen knights raised their lances to the sky and let out a roar, urging their warhorses to charge fiercely out of the forest.

The team charge of more than a dozen warhorses made even the ground tremble slightly.

Unknown shook his head and said softly, “I don’t know much about marching and warfare, but when hunters hunt, they should approach their prey silently and strike when it’s off guard—that’s the best method.”

The trunks of several giant trees swayed slightly, and Unknown had already vanished from where he stood.

Trust your companions as you trust yourself. — Soldier King: Unknown.

Unknown quietly hid atop a lush, towering tree, the thick foliage serving as the best natural cover.

Not far away, in the center of the battlefield, stood a luxuriously decorated carriage. Over a hundred well-equipped soldiers formed various small combat formations, surrounding the carriage in defense. Just now, Knight Gregory had led his men in an assault from the outside, and the defenders had coordinated with them to launch their first counterattack, attempting to open a path for retreat.

Unknown observed the attackers again. Their numbers were about three times those of the defenders. In terms of coordination and equipment, they were slightly inferior, but their overwhelming numbers were their only—and decisive—advantage! Even with the addition of Gregory and his men, the outcome could not be changed.

This scene reminded Unknown of the time a pack of demon wolves attacked a saber-toothed tiger in the forest. Over a hundred hungry demon wolves surrounded the fiercer saber-toothed tiger, and in the end, used their numerical and physical advantage to kill the beast that was stronger than any of them.

“The Wolf King! The demon wolf pack has a Wolf King commanding the battle. This attacking force should have a similar commander.” Unknown quietly observed every move on the battlefield, a pitch-black strongbow and deadly arrow slowly appearing in his hands.

Watching the blood splatter and limbs fly, listening to the endless screams, Unknown’s expression remained unchanged. Even though the attackers were far more ruthless than the defenders, never aiming to kill but rather to sever the limbs of the defenders and savor their screams, Unknown was not disturbed in the slightest, carefully searching for his target.

“Found it!” The corners of Unknown’s mouth lifted slightly. The moment the arrow was nocked to the strongbow, his heart remained as calm as ever, as if he were aiming not at an enemy, but at a mere beast.

No one on the chaotic battlefield heard the sharp whistle of the arrow. It was only when the arrow pierced the forehead of the attacking leader, sending a spray of blood into the air, that someone noticed the blood-soaked, trembling arrow embedded in the ground behind the corpse.

Everything happened so quickly that most of the defenders and attackers could not accept the reality before their eyes.

As the attacking leader fell, another arrow left Unknown’s bowstring. The leader of a small squad among the attackers took the arrow to the forehead and toppled over. As the second arrow flew, the third, fourth, and fifth followed in rapid succession, each piercing the foreheads of other squad leaders.

The arrows, like the reaper himself, claimed several lives in an instant. Gregory and the others were the first to react: “Charge! Everyone! Our divine archer Unknown is supporting us!”

With the fall of the main leader and several squad leaders, the remaining squad leaders felt death looming behind them, each fearing that the next dreadful arrow would kiss their own forehead. One finally succumbed to the pressure and shouted to his men, “Retreat! Retreat!”

The troops, already demoralized by the loss of their commander, heard the squad leader’s cry to retreat, and the rest, now leaderless, turned and fled in panic.

The bullied defenders, seeing this, would not let their enemies escape. Under Gregory’s leadership, they launched a full counterattack, and once again, screams echoed across the battlefield.

Unknown had no interest in the tedious slaughter. Leaping down from the tree, he moved across the battlefield to retrieve his arrows, especially the first one he had shot—a precious arrow made from a raptor’s tooth. To create enough shock, Unknown had used that treasured arrow.

A wave of blood scent drifted by, accompanied by the dying groans of the wounded. As Unknown successfully retrieved his arrows, his stomach churned with a strange sensation, as if he were about to vomit.

At that moment, a knight who had been pursuing the enemy returned excitedly with several severed heads. Spotting Unknown in his plain clothes wandering the battlefield, he spurred his warhorse into a gallop, aiming his lance straight at Unknown’s head.
