Chapter 15

“You traitor, you will die at the hands of the third-rank baron Douglas Baker!” A silver flash swept from the long spear as Douglas Baker’s warhorse sped off into the distance, but in the split second as they passed, Douglas Baker himself was grabbed by the ankle by Unknown and thrown from his horse. His finely crafted helmet was sent flying, and the fair-skinned face of Douglas Baker scraped along the ground, instantly covered in blood.

“I’m an ally. Pursuing defeated soldiers is a soldier’s duty, but I can’t let you become a hero.” Without even glancing at him, Unknown spoke coldly and turned to search for other arrows. Although those weren’t arrowheads made from raptor teeth, items crafted by dwarves were still to be treasured.

Flat on the ground, Douglas Baker could never have imagined that he, a dignified knight, would be knocked from his horse by a mere commoner in a single encounter, and then lectured in the tone of a superior. No noble could bear such a humiliation.

“Stop! Didn’t you hear me? Stop right there!” Climbing up from the ground, his face smeared with blood and dirt, Douglas Baker pointed at the departing Unknown and shouted, “Commoner! I now order you as a noble to stop immediately!”

Unknown turned back and gave a cold look at the knight whose life he had just saved, yet who showed no gratitude and had nearly killed him with a spear. He said, “What is a noble? On the battlefield, no one will fear you or spare you just because you’re a noble. They’ll shoot you all the same.”

“How dare you insult a noble? Seize him!” A woman’s delicate yet commanding voice rang out from the ornate carriage. Over a dozen well-armed knights guarding the carriage, along with a few warriors in plain clothes, quickly surrounded Unknown.

“What is the meaning of this?” Unknown frowned and looked coldly at those encircling him. “People in the mountains know to thank those who save their lives. Is this how you nobles show gratitude?”

“Did anyone see you shoot those arrows just now? But we all saw and heard you attack and insult a noble.”

The luxurious carriage’s curtain lifted, and out stepped a girl dressed in emerald green, with black hair and black eyes. This was the first time since waking up that Unknown had seen another human with the same skin and hair color as himself, and his eyes lit up.

At that moment, Unknown wanted to laugh—a strange, disdainful, and puzzled smile appeared on his face.

The girl felt a chill from Unknown’s smile. Raising her jade-like hand, she pointed at Unknown: “Still dare to laugh! Seize him for this princess!”

Unknown’s smile grew even colder. The combat detector in his left eye quickly scanned the “enemies” around him: the highest combat power was forty, the lowest above thirty. Just as the detector finished scanning, the image suddenly distorted, and the combat power readings disappeared.

Faced with this recurring malfunction, Unknown could only feel helpless about his unreliable left-eye detector.

Nocking an arrow, drawing the bow, aiming!

The cold arrowhead and Unknown’s icy face made the princess feel as if death itself was staring at her. Looking into Unknown’s cold eyes, she felt as if she had suddenly entered winter, her body shivering uncontrollably.

“Stop!”

“Put down your weapon!”

“That’s the third princess of the Divine Dragon Kingdom, Princess Felicity!”

Several of the guards surrounding Unknown shouted anxiously, afraid to act rashly.

The corners of Unknown’s mouth curled up slightly, and in a voice utterly devoid of emotion, he asked, “Do you still not believe the arrows were shot by me?”

“Just to prove the arrows were yours, you would dare to threaten this princess…” Felicity’s face flushed with anger, her ample chest heaving as she declared, “I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it! Even if you shoot me, I still won’t believe it!”

“Is that so?”

With Unknown’s icy words, everyone present felt a chill run through their bodies. In that instant, no one doubted that Unknown would actually loose the arrow.

Princess Felicity no longer dared to speak, afraid of provoking the man before her, who clearly was not to be trifled with.

Just as the standoff reached its peak, Gregory returned triumphantly with the pursuing troops. Seeing what Unknown was doing, he shouted, “Unknown! Don’t! Put down your bow! For the sake of your villagers, put down your bow!”

A gentle light flashed in Unknown’s eyes, and the drawn bow was slowly lowered.

As everyone began to breathe a sigh of relief, Unknown’s eyes suddenly grew even colder than before, and he raised his powerful bow at Princess Felicity once more.

Before anyone could react, Gregory had just opened his mouth, but before a sound could escape his throat, Unknown had already released the bowstring.

The arrow shot forth like lightning. Before the terrified Felicity could even close her eyes, the arrow had already flown past less than half a foot from her head, slicing off a lock of her hair, which drifted gently to the ground.

Behind Princess Felicity, a rebel who had been feigning death and was about to ambush her fell to the ground, a deadly arrow embedded in his forehead. He looked at Unknown with unwilling eyes before collapsing.

Only then did everyone finally let out a long breath. Several of the princess’s guards realized they were completely drenched in cold sweat, having been scared stiff in that instant.
