Chapter 4

It would be a lie to say that Charles Foster felt no anxiety at all. He stared at the clock on the wall, watching as the minute hand pointed steadily to midnight. He stubbed out his cigarette hard and rushed to his computer, which he had already prepared.

He was also a fan of online games, and as for what would happen with Glory, he was ready to experience it firsthand.

Midnight!

The bustling internet café suddenly quieted down.

Swipe card to log in? That hadn’t happened before, so everyone was fumbling awkwardly with the process.

Then, everyone fell into deep thought. The first thing for a new account: choosing a name...

“I’ll do it, I’ll do it!” Emily Brooks grabbed a small stool and sat between James Carter and Ethan Brooks, then jumped up excitedly.

“And then go straight back to bed, did you hear me?” Ethan Brooks said with a serious face.

“Got it!” Emily Brooks had already taken James Carter’s keyboard and was naming his character. She didn’t really play games, and this was always how she participated in Ethan Brooks’s gaming. After James Carter arrived, she started joining in with his as well.

Very quickly, she typed out a name, clearly prepared in advance.

“One Autumn Leaf.” James Carter read it out. “It feels like something’s off?”

But Emily Brooks had already hit enter.

“Done!” She pushed the keyboard back to James Carter. Next, it was time to name Ethan Brooks’s character.

“Hurry up.” Ethan Brooks was already impatient.

Sure enough, Emily Brooks was quick, and three characters popped up immediately.

“Qiu Mu Su?” Ethan Brooks read it, and his face instantly darkened. “Hey, hey, could you be any more perfunctory? I’m your real brother!”

This name was just his own name reversed.

But as soon as Emily Brooks hit confirm, the system prompted: Name already taken.

“Damn!” Ethan Brooks glanced at the time. It was barely a minute past midnight, and even a name like that was already taken. Just how many people were rushing into the game?

Emily Brooks’s hands were fast. Seeing the name was taken, she quickly typed in another.

“Qiu Mu Su?” Ethan Brooks was completely speechless, and then saw it confirmed and accepted. He... was now called Qiu Mu Su.

“Mm, mm, mm.” Emily Brooks nodded repeatedly, looking very satisfied.

“All right, go back to bed now!” Ethan Brooks started shooing people away. It was already late, but since they lived nearby and the siblings were well-known in the area, Ethan Brooks felt comfortable letting Emily Brooks go home alone.

“I’ll leave in a bit.” Emily Brooks seemed to know that Ethan Brooks wouldn’t want to leave the computer to escort her right now, so she started acting spoiled.

“Just a little while!” Sure enough, Ethan Brooks compromised immediately and turned his attention back to the game.

“Hey James Carter, what class did you pick? After much consideration, I’ve decided to play Gunslinger. Why don’t you play Gunslinger too? I think two Gunslingers would have great synergy.” Ethan Brooks said.

“Let’s try things out first!” James Carter replied.

In Glory, you didn’t choose your class when entering the game. The initial character could freely learn skills from all classes, giving players a comprehensive experience, and then at level 20, you would choose your final class.

Based on official information, Ethan Brooks had already decided on the gun class, Gunslinger. James Carter, on the other hand, planned to experience everything in the game before making a decision. But right now, whether they rushed for Gunslinger or wanted to try everything, they both ran into an insurmountable obstacle.

Too many people!

There were so many people that it was almost impossible to move, so many that after watching for a while, Emily Brooks started to get sleepy.

“I’m going home to sleep.” Emily Brooks decided to leave first. She wanted to see the excitement, but now it was so crowded that there was nothing left to see.

“Go ahead!” Ethan Brooks didn’t even turn his head. Although the game couldn’t be played normally, it didn’t stop him from studying many of its features. Right now, Ethan Brooks had entered Glory’s equipment editor, a system said to allow players to design their own gear. Ever since it was announced, it had seemed very advanced and mysterious, and Ethan Brooks had long wanted to check it out. At the moment, his Qiu Mu Su was running around naked, as he had stripped off all the newbie gear given by the system for experiments.

“I’ll walk you.” James Carter stood up. Since the game couldn’t really get going for now, he didn’t mind taking a break.

On Glory’s launch day, there were far more complaints than excitement. But the complaints were all about one thing: too many people—under Glory’s engine, which didn’t allow characters to pass through each other, everyone was squeezed together, making it impossible to play normally.

As players gradually leveled up and started spreading out to different areas of the world, the game finally began to get on track, and only then did players truly start to experience it.

Difficult!

That was probably everyone’s first impression.

Glory was an absolutely skill-based game, with extremely high operational freedom. The quality of your technique had a huge impact on your combat power. So many things depended on skill, not just powerful equipment or other factors.

Of course, equipment was also extremely important in Glory. In online games, the things that fill players with anticipation are usually two things: equipment and victory.
