Chapter 5

As a technical game, player-versus-player (PvP) battles are absolutely the main event. In addition to the usual open-world PK system found in most online games, Glory features a unique arena system dedicated solely to player duels.

"Glory!"

The two large characters kept zooming in on James Carter's computer screen—this was the mark of victory in a Glory arena match. On the side, the public chat channel was constantly popping with the spectators’ exclamations and discussions.

One month—Glory had been live for one month.

James Carter's "One Autumn Leaf" had already become a somewhat famous name in the game, because in the arena, he maintained an undefeated solo record.

3,685 matches, 3,685 wins.

Never mind the number of wins—even just the sheer number of matches was astonishing. 3,685 matches meant averaging over a hundred matches per day. Considering that a typical player-versus-player duel takes three to five minutes, he would be spending six to ten hours in the arena every day.

There are some quests and achievement rewards in the arena, but the experience gained is minimal. Overall, leveling up through the arena is extremely slow. Yet, "One Autumn Leaf" was not a low level—level 32, which was among the top ranks at the time.

"How much time does this guy spend gaming every day?" Similar discussions were common in the public channel.

In reality, players were still underestimating James Carter. His daily playtime was indeed quite long, but the time he spent in the arena was far less than they imagined.

Someone who could go undefeated in 3,685 solo matches clearly possessed overwhelming skill. For him, a duel rarely took three minutes, let alone five. In most cases, the fight was over in just one or two minutes.

Very strong, but not the strongest.

Currently, on the arena leaderboard—excluding those with very few matches—there was more than one player with a perfect record after over a hundred matches. There was another, whose number of wins even surpassed "One Autumn Leaf."

Desert Smoke.

James Carter opened the arena rankings. The only name above his "One Autumn Leaf" was this one.

Like "One Autumn Leaf," he was also level 32, but his arena wins totaled 4,012—all victories.

Below the two of them, there were many other top players with extremely high win rates, but so far, only these two had maintained an unbroken perfect record.

Countless players were curious about which of the two would lose first, and even more were eagerly anticipating a showdown between them. Both were undefeated, which meant they had never faced each other. The arena currently had no challenge system; all matches were assigned randomly by the system. However, the system did take into account player level, win rate, number of wins, and so on. Everyone speculated that these two would soon be matched up by the system.

"I'm looking forward to it too!" Seeing the players around him discussing this, James Carter muttered, clicking "Ready," silently hoping to be matched with Desert Smoke.

"Hey, hey, hey, help me run a dungeon." Just then, someone beside him called out, and James Carter, disappointed, saw that his randomly assigned opponent was not Desert Smoke.

"What dungeon?" James Carter asked casually, entering the arena match with his new opponent.

"Frontline Canyon. I need the dungeon record there. No, to be precise, I need the reward for the dungeon record," said Ethan Brooks.

"Hold on a sec," James Carter replied as the match began.

"Hurry up," Ethan Brooks urged, but seeing James Carter start a new match, he didn’t look impatient at all. He knew it would be over quickly.

"Let's go!" Forty seconds later, "One Autumn Leaf" exited the arena, leaving behind a channel full of shocked emojis. The player who had just lost was still in a daze, unable to recover from the defeat.

96.1%.

That was his win rate—already considered extremely high. With a win rate above 95%, the system would almost never randomly match him with James Carter.

Seeing that his opponent was "One Autumn Leaf," who currently held an undefeated record in over 3,000 matches, this player was extremely cautious from the start. Yet, he was crushed in just forty seconds. It wasn’t a flawless victory, but he felt that the opponent could have easily achieved one. The slight loss of health was just to speed up the win.

"In a hurry?" The player was on the verge of tears. The other guy had dispatched him so casually! He himself was a top player with a 96.1% win rate—what did he look like in the eyes of "One Autumn Leaf"?

Frontline Canyon.

A leveling zone for players between levels 31 and 33. Currently, most of the top-ranked players were gathered here, grinding monsters, running dungeons—a sea of people.

With James Carter's skill, he could already be grinding in higher-level areas like the Blazing Forest or even the City of Sin. He rarely came to Frontline Canyon anymore, except for the three daily dungeon runs.

Dungeon entrance. When James Carter arrived, Ethan Brooks had already gathered a team, leaving one spot open for him!

"Pretty quick, huh!" James Carter said to Ethan Brooks.
