Anthony retreated in a sorry state, clutching his already broken hand with his other hand, cursing loudly. John Bennett, however, was in no hurry to attack. After Anthony rested for a while, his injured claw gradually healed!
Relying on the powerful regenerative ability of the blood clan, Anthony recovered instantly. With a roar, he grabbed a nearby water pipe and, with a forceful twist, broke the steel pipe in half. Water gushed out with a loud “whoosh”!
With a furious roar, Anthony charged forward, swinging the steel pipe. This time, John Bennett did not dodge. As Anthony swung the pipe, just as his old strength was spent and new strength was yet to rise, John Bennett suddenly stepped forward and punched the steel pipe. With a metallic clang, it snapped in two. The force of the punch made Anthony cough up several mouthfuls of blood. The more blood he lost, the weaker he became. Now, he was at the end of his strength.
This time, John Bennett did not wait for him to recover. The speed of the blood clan was displayed once again—the player seemed to appear out of thin air right in front of Anthony. Such speed was possessed only by carnivores; even as a member of the blood clan, Anthony had never witnessed it before. Startled, he desperately retreated, but John Bennett's palm was already pressing down on his shoulder.
Anthony knew exactly what would happen if he was subdued. A chill ran through his heart, and in a desperate struggle, he suddenly burst forth with an incredible strength and actually broke free! John Bennett hadn’t expected him to escape and was momentarily stunned. Anthony retreated rapidly. At this point, his clothes were in tatters, his hair a tangled mess, his face covered in blood—there was not a trace left of his usual gentlemanly demeanor.
John Bennett slowly closed in as Anthony kept backing away. Suddenly, John Bennett smiled and said, “Keep retreating, and you’ll be in the sunlight!” Anthony, not realizing, took another step back. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his back, and wisps of blue smoke rose up—his back was scorched black. He turned around and saw a beam of sunlight streaming in through the window behind him!
Chapter 002
Anthony was in despair. John Bennett raised his left hand and slowly uttered two words: “Shadow Shackles!” The shadows around them suddenly came alive, wrapping around Anthony like a black cloth.
Anthony's mouth opened wide, but no sound came out—the darkness blocked everything! John Bennett calmly walked over to Anthony, opened his mouth, and sank four sharp fangs deep into Anthony's neck!
Carnivores, granted the right by the dark gods, are allowed to feed on their own kind. The power of the blood clan comes from blood; by drinking the blood of their own kind, they also absorb their strength. In the name of the dark gods, they become incomparably powerful!
After feeding, John Bennett gently nudged Anthony's corpse with the tip of his foot. The body slid into the sunlight, and after a puff of smoke, it vanished without a trace!
John Bennett approached the two white-collar workers who had been scared out of their wits, pressed his palms together, and said, “Loss!” As he opened his hands like petals, a wisp of black smoke emerged from the center. Enveloped by the black smoke, the two white-collar workers fainted one after another. When they woke up, they would have lost a segment of their memory—today’s memory.
Three days later, in another country thousands of miles away, in another city, John Bennett, still wearing the same gray-black woolen coat, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth and both hands in his coat pockets, strolled unhurriedly along a path covered with maple leaves. The path wound up the mountain, ending at a villa nestled in the hills. In front of the villa’s iron gate, John Bennett pressed the doorbell.
“Identity!” came a cold, hard voice from the intercom at the door. John Bennett looked up, brought his eye close to a small hole beside the door, and reported his identity: “Enforcer John Bennett!” A flash of blue light swept by, identity confirmed. With a clang, the black iron gate opened.
John Bennett walked along the cobblestone path behind the gate toward the villa. The door was ajar; he pushed it open and entered. Inside, there was no one. He headed straight for the basement. The wooden door to the basement opened, revealing a narrow passageway. John Bennett stooped and crawled inside.
The passage sloped downward, and at the end, it suddenly opened up. Beside two sturdy iron doors stood a burly man with blond hair and a yellow beard, chained up with iron chains. When the man saw him, he chuckled, “You’re back.” John Bennett nodded, “How’s the Chief Justice lately?” “Her? She’s not doing so well!” The man seemed quite pleased as he said this. John Bennett said helplessly, “I really don’t understand you two. If you hate her so much, why don’t you just leave? These chains probably couldn’t hold you even a hundred years ago, right?” The man laughed, “That’s the game between men and women. You wouldn’t understand!” John Bennett said nothing more. The man flexed his arms and helped push open the heavy iron doors. “Go in, she’s been waiting for you a long time!”
John Bennett entered through the iron doors, and the scene inside changed dramatically. The facilities were complete, nothing like the crude passage outside. There was an ancient bronze-rimmed mirror, brown antique wooden tables and chairs, a thick ancient Persian carpet, and a tall rosewood bookshelf filled with all kinds of books.
On the large table sat a red coral candlestick, now fitted with a light bulb instead of a candle. A beautiful woman in a black dress with gold trim sat at the table, engrossed in a book. Vampires may fear sunlight, but they are not afraid of artificial light.
