Chapter 17

Chief Justice got up, blood already trickling from the corner of her mouth. Shadow shook his head: "Are you still going to be stubborn?" Chief Justice lifted her head and charged forward! Shadow casually pressed his hand into the shadow on the wall beside him, as if pushing open a door, and his whole body fell into darkness. Almost at the same moment, from the darkness behind Chief Justice, he pushed open the door between darkness and light and stepped out. He stretched out his hand, chanting an ancient incantation, and a massive scythe suddenly appeared behind Chief Justice. The scythe slashed down fiercely, a burst of blood erupted from Chief Justice, and she was knocked heavily to the ground, not getting up for a long time! Shadow slowly walked to her side, gently shaking his head. Suddenly, Chief Justice's body twitched, and Shadow took a step back. At that moment, chaos erupted—a massive door behind Shadow shattered, and a burly figure charged in. Shadow was focused on the Chief Justice in front of him and did not anticipate the danger behind. The attacker from behind struck true, sending Shadow flying! The attacker landed and immediately launched a frenzied assault on Shadow!

Chief Justice rolled over, and a weak but resolute voice rang out: "Raymond Hager, get out!" The burly, blond-bearded man Raymond Hager was attacking furiously, his strong body causing great trouble for Shadow. Hearing Chief Justice's words, he froze, stopped his attack, jumped back to Chief Justice's side, and pointed at Shadow: "He's already injured. The two of us can definitely kill him!" Chief Justice shook her head: "Get out! This is the blood clan's secret ground; your identity doesn't allow you to be here!" Raymond Hager was furious: "At a time like this, you're still so rigid!" "I am an enforcer, I must uphold the law! Get out!" Chief Justice was stubborn, and so was Raymond Hager. He tilted his head: "No! I can't watch you die—I can't let you die at someone else's hands!" Chief Justice's voice suddenly softened: "Hank." She called Raymond Hager's name. "Please, just go, will you?" Shadow slowly walked back: "So, a werewolf newly embraced by the blood clan! No wonder in just two hundred years, you've gained the power to shatter thirteen secret doors!" Raymond Hager shot Shadow a hateful glare, then turned to Chief Justice: "Fine! I'm leaving!" The werewolf-vampire leapt out again through the gap in the door!

Spencer Wick was still waiting outside the laboratory, while several of his subordinates inside were desperately urging the scientists to work faster. Spencer Wick felt uneasy; the test results could directly affect the future of the Camarilla! There was a soft sound behind him—the door opened. A subordinate came out holding a file folder, shook his head slightly at Spencer Wick, then handed him the folder. Spencer Wick felt relieved. He took the folder, opened it, carefully checked the test results inside, then put the folder away and waved his hand: "Let's go!"

The street seemed dark because of its width, the streetlights dim and drowsy. Spencer Wick and more than a dozen subordinates hurried down the street, carrying evidence that concerned the safety of the entire Camarilla, evidence that would determine the fate of his clan, the Beckers. Members of the Death Scythe Guard protected him on both sides. Nothing could go wrong on this final stretch. It was already late at night, the street deserted. This group, as dark as the night itself, rushed down the street, standing out starkly.

In Spencer Wick's hand, the iron spear flickered in and out of sight, just like his anxious mood. He knew clearly that in a conflict of this level, he was nothing; even his Death Scythe Guard was like a bubble—once burst, it was gone, and no one would care. His instinctive loyalty to his clan and his concern for his own safety made him deeply uneasy.

Chapter 009

Suddenly, the iron spear flew toward the darkness under a streetlamp. Spencer Wick's hand hadn't even dropped yet when all the team members quickly scattered, effectively protecting Spencer Wick. The iron spear vanished like a stone sinking into the sea, with no response at all. Silence. Everyone held their breath; the darkness under the streetlamp was deathly still. Sweat trickled down Spencer Wick's forehead. The silence lasted a long time before Spencer Wick spoke softly: "Bernard, take a few men and check it out; Leo, we're moving on!" Bernard rushed over, and Spencer Wick continued forward. Behind him, there was no sound for a long time. Spencer Wick suppressed his fear and forced himself not to look back. One team member couldn't contain his curiosity and glanced back, just in time to see the last team member dash into the "pitch-black under the lamp" barely the size of a car wheel—then vanish without a trace! With a scream, everyone turned back—Bernard and the others had already disappeared without a trace!

"Run!" Spencer Wick shouted in a low voice, and everyone dashed forward, unable to maintain formation. As he ran, Spencer Wick finally couldn't resist glancing back. In the blink of an eye, a dark iron spear shot from the darkness under the lamp right in front of him. Spencer Wick shuddered all over, and no longer had the strength to run forward with his team.

A Shadow rushed into the Death Scythe Guard, its bat wings sharp as blades, ten fingers like swords. In the blink of an eye, the remaining team members were lying dead on the ground!
