Chapter 8

At this moment, the words "criminal police" gave everyone an unimaginable sense of security.

"You're a cop?!" The doctor was stunned.

No wonder from the very beginning this man seemed to be probing for something; he was also the first to propose "making sure everyone survives." Maybe he really does want to save everyone.

The doctor's attitude clearly improved a lot: "If that's the case, then I apologize for my earlier attitude. I'm from Jiangsu."

At this moment, the tattooed man Brian Johnson looked a bit grim: "Hey, Dr. Harris, do you really trust this Officer Thompson?"

"Hmm?" Dr. Harris looked at Brian Johnson in confusion. "What are you trying to say?"

Brian Johnson tapped the table with his finger and said calmly, "It's not 'story time' right now. In other words... anyone can lie at this point."

Chapter 6 Officer

"Stop trying to sow discord." Officer Thompson glared at Brian Johnson and said sternly, "You're a loan shark, and I'm a cop. Who do you think people will believe?"

Ashley Carter glanced at the arguing group. He knew Officer Thompson probably wasn't lying—he really was a detective.

  But his focus was wrong.

Maybe it was professional instinct, maybe a sense of justice, but he always wanted to organize everyone in an orderly way.

The halftime break was already more than halfway over, and the group gradually fell silent.

During this time, Ashley Carter had already repeated in his mind countless times, "My name is Li Ming," to the point where he was getting annoyed with himself.

After all, there was a corpse with a shattered skull lying right next to him, making it impossible to calm down.

Blood dripped from the table onto the floor. The group had been in the same room with the corpse for almost an hour, and a strange stench was starting to spread.

Ashley Carter glanced absentmindedly at the corpse beside him; his pants were already filthy.

After death, a person's organs quickly lose muscle control, causing incontinence.

Even before the smell of decay set in, a foul odor was already in the air.

Ashley Carter and another girl sat on either side of the corpse. The girl seemed quite bothered by the smell, covering her mouth and nose with her hand the whole time.

Another ten minutes passed before the goat-headed figure finally spoke: "The twenty-minute halftime break is over. The game resumes."

The young man called Ethan Cooper steadied himself, took a deep breath, and said, "My name is Ethan Cooper, and I'm an online novelist."

"Before coming here, I was in my rented apartment writing the ending of a novel. Since there were over a hundred characters in the story, almost all of them had to appear in the finale, so I was completely focused on writing and didn't hear anything going on outside."

"In fact... I don't even know when the earthquake happened or when I lost consciousness..."

Ethan Cooper's story was different from everyone else's. So far, he seemed completely "independent," and his account ended abruptly after just a few sentences.

"That's it?" The burly man was a bit taken aback. "You just say 'I don't know' and that's the end?"

"Since I can't lie, I have no reason to make up an answer just to please everyone." Ethan Cooper's voice wasn't loud, but it was strangely convincing.

"Alright... next, then." Officer Thompson still looked suspicious as he spoke again, "It's the lady's turn."

"Hey, cop." Brian Johnson was a bit dissatisfied with Officer Thompson's attitude. "We're all 'participants' here. Don't act like you're the captain."

"Someone has to step up and organize everyone, right?" Officer Thompson retorted. "I've said it before: only one of us is the enemy. The other eight have to stick together."

"That doesn't mean you get to be in charge." Brian Johnson completely dismissed Officer Thompson's words. "Maybe I'd be afraid of you outside, but in this situation, who knows if you're the 'liar.'"

"Enough, you two." The cool-toned woman interrupted them.

This cool-toned woman had, from the start, accused the goat-headed figure of imprisoning everyone for twenty-four hours. She seemed logical and very calm.

Seeing the two quiet down, she continued, "In this so-called 'game,' no matter who wins in the end, the rest of us could be seen as 'indirect murderers.' After all, it's our collective vote that gets someone killed by the man-goat. That's what you should be thinking about."

Hearing this, Ashley Carter's expression changed slightly.

If he really did make it out of this room alive, then he would have "killed" the other eight.

But what could he do about it?

The card in front of him was a genuine "liar" card. Who would willingly give up their life so others could survive?

"My name is Chris Brooks, and I'm a lawyer." The cool-toned woman crossed her arms and spoke expressionlessly. "It's a pity to meet everyone in such a bizarre place. Otherwise, I would have handed out my business card."

No one really understood Chris Brooks's sense of humor, but she didn't seem to care.

"Before coming here, I was organizing materials for a court hearing. My client was swindled out of two million yuan—a huge sum, and a serious case."
