Chapter 15

Dr. Harris was the first to stand up, walked over to the goat-headed man, reached out and felt for the artery on his neck, and found that it had already stopped beating.

"Hey!" Dr. Harris shouted at the goat head, "The game is over, how do we get out?!"

But a silent corpse could not give Dr. Harris any answer.

The others also slowly stood up.

Nothing had changed in this room, except that there was now one more corpse.

"How strange... are we really dead?" Emily still seemed to be struggling with this question. She stretched out her slender palm and gave herself a hard slap.

"Ouch!" Emily cried out in surprise, "It still hurts... Why can I still feel pain after dying?"

Brian Johnson shook his head helplessly. "What, have you died before?"

"I..." Emily was slightly stunned, "I guess I really haven't died before..."

"So, who knows what happens after death? Judging by this, maybe this is hell." Brian Johnson glanced at the two corpses in the room, feeling uncomfortable all over. "Not only can I feel pain, I can also smell the stench."

"So what are we? Spirits?" The writer Ethan Cooper asked.

After hearing this, Dr. Harris also checked his own body and found that his heartbeat, body temperature, and pulse were all normal, and he was breathing normally, but somehow he wasn't consuming any oxygen.

It seemed that death really was a mysterious thing, something no medical knowledge could explain.

"Whatever we are, I don't want to be trapped in this small room for the rest of my days." Officer Thompson said, "Let's look for a way out."

Officer Thompson walked over to the goat head, and casually picked up the gun that had fallen by his hand.

This action startled everyone, and they instinctively moved away from him.

Officer Thompson skillfully pulled back the slide to check, then removed the magazine, discovering that the gun only had one bullet, and now it was empty.

This was both good news and bad news.

The good news was that they didn't have to worry about anyone using this gun to hurt others again; the bad news was that if they encountered other dangers, they would have no way to protect themselves.

But Brian Johnson was quite bold. He reached out and slowly removed the goat-headed man's mask, discovering that beneath the mask was a man whose face was completely rotten.

His eyes were rolled back, showing no signs of life.

"What a terrifying face..."

Attorney Brooks echoed from the side.

Ashley Carter had been sitting in his seat the whole time, neither standing up nor searching for clues.

He still felt something was off.

Also still seated was the psychological counselor Ethan Green.

"What are you thinking about?" Ethan Green casually covered her mouth and nose and asked.

"Me?" Ashley Carter was taken aback. "Why? Are you going to give me a psychological evaluation?"

"Not really. Although smart people like you more or less have some psychological issues, this situation really isn't suitable for therapy." Ethan Green smiled slightly. "I just wanted to ask what you were thinking about."

Ashley Carter pondered for a moment and said, "I'm thinking about the reason."

"The reason?"

Ashley Carter ignored Ethan Green, and instead called out to Dr. Harris, asking, "Doctor, if an ordinary person is shot in the heart, how long can they survive?"

Dr. Harris turned around, thought for a moment, and said, "If I remember correctly, when the heart is shot, a person will lose consciousness within a few seconds. But since 'death' in medical terms refers to 'brain death,' even after losing consciousness, the brain will continue to function for a few more minutes."

Ashley Carter nodded. "That goat-headed man screamed for several minutes just now, which means his body is much tougher than an ordinary human, right?"

"Yes. Even after being shot in the heart, he lasted several minutes before completely losing consciousness."

Hearing Ashley Carter and the doctor talking, everyone quieted down.

It was thanks to this conman's clear thinking just now that all nine of them survived.

"So, why do you think that is?" Ashley Carter extended his index finger and thumb, forming the shape of a gun, and placed it against his temple. "Most people would choose to commit suicide like this."

He thought for a moment, then aimed his hand from below at his jaw. "Or like this."

Ashley Carter withdrew his hand and pointed to his heart:

"No matter what... a person committing suicide would choose a way to die as painlessly as possible, so why did he aim at his heart?"

Brian Johnson was playing with the goat head mask in his hand, then turned over the man's head and said, "Maybe this idiot's skull is harder, and even a shot couldn't kill him."

"Since he coughed up blood, that proves his body structure is the same as ours." Officer Thompson said, "No matter how strong he is, at this distance, a shot to the head would definitely be fatal."

Ashley Carter nodded. "If that's the case, then I can only think of one reason."

He pointed to the mask in Brian Johnson's hand and said, "The reason the goat-headed man chose to shoot himself in the heart was most likely to protect something. The 'game' might not be over yet."

Brian Johnson was startled. "You mean... he was afraid of damaging his mask?"

"That's right."
