Chapter 5

This was a purely instinctive feeling—he felt an unusual sense of trust toward this guy, as if this person was himself. They were originally a single entity, only separated.

William Carter had not the slightest inclination toward suicide—not even a little.

So, he felt very safe, extremely, extremely safe.

He lifted his head and carefully examined this strange humanoid creature. After a while, he looked up again and tentatively pressed on the other’s body.

The sensation under his hand was quite good, no different from pressing on his own skin.

However, William Carter’s expression suddenly changed. He stared at his own arm in astonishment, his face filled with disbelief.

Chapter 3: The Strange Body

William Carter clearly remembered that just now, he had poked the creature’s arm with his finger. But at this moment, he actually felt the sensation of being poked on his own arm.

It seemed that when he touched the other, he was also touching his own body.

A thousand thoughts raced through his mind, but no matter how clever he was, he simply couldn’t figure out what was happening.

After a long while, he gritted his teeth and once again reached out to pat the mysterious creature’s body. Then, the look of surprise on his face grew even stronger.

Because he discovered that no matter which part of this body he patted, he could feel it himself. Moreover, he could easily sense the exact strength of each pat.

It was as if he and this creature were sharing the same body.

What was going on?

William Carter withdrew his hand—not because he didn’t want to keep experimenting, but because his body was starting to ache, making it hard to continue. Earlier, in his shock, he had accidentally hit a few times too hard, and the result was that he was now grimacing and hopping in pain.

Although there wasn’t a single bruise left on his own body, the intense pain was definitely real.

Withdrawing his hand, William Carter bit his lower lip lightly and looked at the thing, unable to decide what to do.

For some reason, he didn’t have the slightest urge to call for his father’s help.

Deep down, he actually felt an impulse to hide this matter forever, never letting anyone know.

He hesitated the whole night, unable to come up with any workable solution. However, after a night of research, he did gain a few small insights.

This creature was intimately connected to him—perhaps it was something that had transformed from the cluster of energy in his mind.

But the most important discovery was that he could project his own consciousness into this body, making it perform any action he wished.

For example, raising its hand, walking, or… practicing martial arts.

This was undoubtedly the biggest discovery: inside this body, the structure was exactly the same as his own. Except for the blurred facial features, as long as his consciousness entered the creature’s body, he could control it just like his own.

His room was not small, and there was even a modest training room off to the side.

After discovering this secret, driven by curiosity, he controlled the body into the training room and performed a set of martial arts. The final conclusion was that this body’s strength, speed, and skill were in no way inferior to his own.

If he didn’t know for sure that his consciousness was in another body, he would have almost lost himself in it.

He was excited the whole night, and only reluctantly withdrew his consciousness when daylight broke the next day. However, even after he withdrew, the strange body didn’t collapse—it just stood there blankly, like a mindless wooden dummy.

William Carter thought carefully, hid it under his bed, and covered it with the bedsheet to avoid being discovered.

He walked out of his room. Although he hadn’t slept all night, he was still full of energy.

Out of habit, he went to the training ground in the backyard, and just as he was about to practice, he heard his father’s voice behind him.

“Kaixuan, don’t practice today.”

William Carter was taken aback and asked in surprise, “Why?”

“Heh, the reason I had you practice was so you could refine your true qi and bring some honor to me. But…” Henry Carter smiled and said, “After what happened yesterday, I no longer have that desire. As long as our family is together, that’s the greatest happiness.”

Looking at Henry Carter’s gratified smile, William Carter silently lowered his head.

Henry Carter laughed heartily and said, “I know you might not be able to accept this right away, but when you reach my age, you’ll understand.” He sighed softly and said, “Sometimes, we really have to believe in fate. If something is destined to be yours, it will be yours. If it’s not, no matter what you do, you won’t get it.”

A thought stirred in William Carter’s heart. Could yesterday’s opportunity also have been destined for him?
