Chapter 17

"Today." Grant Carter's facial muscles twitched slightly, and he said in a deep voice, "William, have you ever practiced spiritual power before?"

"No." William Carter shook his head and replied.

Grant Carter nodded slowly. He was a seasoned spiritualist and could naturally see some clues. If this kid had practiced spiritual power before, he would never have reacted with such panic when the spiritual energy of heaven and earth entered his body. But, is it possible for someone to create such a huge scene the very first time they try to gather spiritual energy?

He gave a bitter smile and couldn't help but ask, "Then how did you manage to gather spiritual power just now?"

William Carter scratched his head and said, "Isn't it just about attracting those external forces? You said yourself, it's very simple." He paused for a moment, nodded heavily, and added, "It really is quite simple."

Grant Carter's mouth fell open, and he was stunned for a while. He suddenly realized that he seemed to have nothing left to say.

Attracting spiritual energy to gather around oneself and then absorbing it into the body to become one's own power is the first step in a spiritualist's cultivation.

This step is indeed very simple for spiritualists. However, from the day a person with spiritualist potential is identified to the day they successfully gather their first wisp of spiritual energy, it usually takes at least ten or even dozens of days of hard training.

Those who can gather spiritual energy in just over ten days are already considered geniuses among spiritualists.

So, William Carter, who had never had any experience cultivating spiritual power, actually achieved such a remarkable result the very first time he gathered the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, and even successfully absorbed it into his body.

This guy is even more of a genius than a genius.

Looking at William Carter's youthful face, two words suddenly flashed through his mind.

Monster.

Perhaps, only this term could explain what happened today.

With a sigh, Grant Carter said, "William, since you have such talent, you should report directly to the clan elder."

William Carter blinked twice, thinking to himself.

We were trying to see the clan elder in the first place, but someone blocked us.

However, considering that the middle-aged man had treated him with respect, he decided not to say anything more.

Grant Carter beckoned with his hand and said, "William, you're in luck. Clan Elder James is in the Spirit Hall right now. Haha, he is a highly influential figure in our Carter family. If you can become his disciple, your future will be limitless." He silently added in his heart, If Clan Elder James can take in a monster like you as his disciple, his future will be limitless too.

Chapter 9: A Slip

In a quiet little grove, there was a winding path.

Walking slowly to the end of this path, one would see an elegant bamboo house.

A fifty-something elder was sitting upright on a bamboo chair, leisurely fanning himself with a cattail fan, sipping from a teapot, looking completely at ease and enjoying himself.

Suddenly, the relaxed look on his face disappeared, and his brows furrowed slightly.

The sound of footsteps approached from afar, carefully making their way along the path to his side and stopping.

"Hmph, what is it?" The elder, though displeased at having his peace disturbed, still opened his eyes and asked impatiently.

Bringing William Carter here, Grant Carter quickly said, "Clan elder, there is a matter in the Spirit Hall that requires your judgment."

The elder waved his hand and said, "No matter what it is, go find the clan leader. Hmph, I only hold a nominal position in the Spirit Hall, I have no interest in meddling in your affairs."

William Carter secretly found this elder rather straightforward and endearing.

Grant Carter, on the other hand, looked embarrassed. He gave a bitter smile and said, "Clan elder, if it were anything else, I would have handled it myself. But if I don't report this to you, you definitely won't let me off in the future."

The elder was slightly taken aback and slowly sat up straight in his chair. His gaze was not sharp, nor did he exude any intimidating authority—he looked just like an ordinary old man.

However, just by seeing how respectfully Grant Carter treated him, it was clear that this elder was anything but ordinary.

His gaze flickered over Grant Carter and William Carter, and the old man said in a gentle voice, "Why did you bring this little fellow here? Oh, could it be that he has spiritualist potential?"

At the end of this sentence, he finally seemed a bit interested.

The Carter family had many branches and held great power within a hundred-mile radius. Yet, even searching the whole area, the number of spiritualists the Carter family could recruit had never exceeded thirty.

This elder was a true big shot in the Carter family and naturally cared deeply about the family's prosperity.

Grant Carter smiled and said, "Clan elder, this is our Carter family's direct descendant, William Carter." He turned and said, "William, quickly pay your respects to Clan Elder James."

"Yes, greetings to Clan Elder James." William Carter hurried forward and respectfully knelt in salute.

James Carter accepted his bow with a hearty laugh and said, "Get up. Since you have spiritualist potential, you must cherish it and never let it go to waste."

"Yes."
