Just as Brian Carter was venting his emotions, a voice filled with anger rang sharply in his ear: “Shut up! Are you trying to wake up all the humans in the city?”
In an instant, Brian Carter felt at least thirty or forty hostile killing intents lock onto him.
Brian Carter’s heart turned cold. He hurriedly swallowed the rest of his roar, pulling back the eight streams of black energy, letting them linger on the outer layer of the black light that enveloped his body, slowly drifting about. However, those dozen or so killing intents all withdrew, and no one paid him any more attention, making Brian Carter involuntarily breathe a sigh of relief. The voice just now seemed to be a girl’s. Brian Carter looked around, but couldn’t figure out which direction the voice had come from.
On the rooftops of several nearby apartment complexes, those presences each used their abilities to intercept the “meteors” falling from the sky.
Some released strange lights, sweeping across the sky; some manipulated what seemed to be magical treasures flying everywhere, intercepting and blocking; others used mysterious secret arts to summon giant beastly phantoms that swallowed upwards; still others released countless profound runes to form formations, drawing the “meteors” to them… Everyone’s methods were different, and all their attention was focused on this task. Clearly, this matter was extremely important, and since Brian Carter had suppressed his roar, no one was interested in him anymore.
“Are these guys not human? What use do they have for intercepting these meteors?”
The black light around Brian Carter’s body continued to devour the “meteors” endlessly, completely beyond his control. The devouring power of this black light was extremely strong—even among those on the rooftops of the nearby complexes, only two or three could compare to him.
It wasn’t until dawn began to break and the “meteors” in the sky gradually thinned out that Brian Carter realized he didn’t know how much time had passed, nor how many “meteors” he had devoured. As the last “meteor” was taken away, the figures on the rooftops of the nearby complexes gradually disappeared.
A cold aura within Brian Carter’s body gathered into a stream, moving about at will. He could even control it slightly—just by thinking of gathering it to a certain part of his body, the cold aura would move there as if directed by his own arm, swirling and circling in the designated spot. This cold aura was quite unique, and also had the effect of refreshing his mind. Even though he hadn’t slept all night, he felt incredibly clear-headed and energetic, and even the fatigue from walking back from the exhibition was gone. His whole body was brimming with energy, as if it was about to burst forth.
“Those guys actually all left. I wanted to ask someone what on earth was going on!” Brian Carter muttered to himself as he walked home. Tonight’s events were just too strange, and he was still a bit dazed.
As soon as Brian Carter disappeared around the corner of the street, a cloud of mist appeared out of nowhere where he had just been, slowly expanding. A young girl dressed in a moon-white palace gown appeared in the mist, her brows furrowed.
She gazed at Brian Carter’s departing figure and murmured to herself, “How come I’ve never seen this guy in the city before? His ability to absorb imperial nectar is quite strong. The amount I intercepted wasn’t even a tenth of his.”
An old but gentle voice sounded: “He wasn’t originally a monster of this city.”
An extremely ugly, yet kindly looking old woman emerged from a cloud of black energy. She leaned on a cane, her body hunched, but she was full of vigor, exuding a strong aura.
The girl in the moon-white palace gown bowed slightly and said softly, “Grandma Carter! You haven’t seen him either? Could he be an outsider? If an outsider is competing with our Beidu City’s monsters for imperial nectar, that’s a violation of the rules of the Ten Thousand Monsters Assembly.”
Grandma Carter smiled and said, “He’s not an outsider!”
Chapter Three: The Undying Tree
The girl in the moon-white palace gown couldn’t help but be slightly stunned, her small mouth forming a round “O” of surprise. “Could it be that he was originally human? And just awakened his bloodline?”
Grandma Carter nodded and said calmly, “I’ve lived for six thousand years, and this is the first time I’ve seen such a powerful bloodline awakening. The bloodline he awakened is the same kind as ours. Little Lily! This is a great opportunity for you! Others have probably noticed this kid too—if you’re too slow, you might miss your chance…”
Grandma Carter chuckled, the black energy around her bubbling and churning, wrapping her figure. The black energy twisted and then contracted into a ball, and this extremely ugly yet kindly old woman disappeared as well.
The girl in the moon-white palace gown blushed, spat lightly, and muttered, “Grandma Carter, you’re actually making fun of me too!”
She pouted for a while, then suddenly furrowed her brows, thinking for a long time before shaking her head slightly and murmuring, “Now that I think about it, I feel like I’ve seen him before. Who is he?”
……
Another corner of the city!
A handsome, roguish young man was walking down the empty street, a cigarette in his mouth, humming a little tune, looking quite pleased.
A verdant green light landed on his head—it was a little green bird.
The young man immediately gave a wry smile and said, “Sister Grant! What brings you to call on your little brother again?”
