Chapter 1: The Apocalypse Underground
You can actually squat during class!
Squatting in a cave only three feet high, Eric Turner was sorting through the information in his mind.
"You all better remember this: every bloodline leads to a supreme divine throne! We humans have already lost too much, so each and every one of us must strive to tap into our own potential and improve..."
Eric Turner paid no attention to the impassioned speech. Right now, his mind was filled with only one thing: had he really transmigrated to the year 3019?
Shouldn't humans a thousand years from now have entered space, living a high-tech interstellar life, residing in spaceships, eating cosmic super menus, and traveling across the stars at a whim...
But the reality was, humans had already retreated from the surface of the earth and taken refuge underground!
With the revival of spiritual energy and the evolution of species, the bloodlines hidden within human bodies began to awaken. However, the bloodlines within birds and beasts awakened even faster, so the unfortunate humans had to retreat from the wilderness to the cities, and then from the cities to underground.
"Classmates, we have already lost the surface, so no matter what, we cannot lose the underground as well."
"Because, once we lose the underground, it will be the moment our race is exterminated! That means each of us must offer up our own strength, work together, and restore the civilization of humanity!"
"Cough, cough, cough..."
The teacher, Jason Grant, dressed in dusty gray, was so agitated that before he could finish speaking, he started coughing uncontrollably as if someone was choking him, his face turning red. He pressed his chest, soothing it as if afraid his heart, liver, and lungs would jump out if he wasn't careful.
"Mr. Grant, your injury is acting up again. I think you shouldn't teach for the next few days—just rest at home!" A middle-aged man crawled with difficulty through the passage and entered the classroom, which was only three feet high.
This middle-aged man was very sturdy. Even though he tried to curl up, his head still bumped against the earthen ceiling of the classroom.
"Captain Clark, is the new classroom ready for us? The kids can't keep having class in a place like this, can they?" Jason Grant couldn't even bother to answer, asking urgently.
The middle-aged man's expression changed, then he said, "Mr. Grant, you know ever since that black-armored giant porcupine showed up, none of us dare dig anymore."
"The Controllers are having a hard time too!"
Jason Grant was deeply disappointed, his face turning cold. He said flatly, "Then why are you here this time..."
Jason Grant understood what the middle-aged man meant, but Eric Turner was a bit confused, since the original owner's memories he received were still a bit jumbled.
"I have no choice. I'm here to conscript." Captain Clark looked helpless.
"Evan Clark, are you... are you crazy! The oldest kid here isn't even sixteen yet, how can you conscript them!" Jason Grant shouted in exasperation.
Evan Clark gave a bitter smile and said with difficulty, "Mr. Grant, I have no choice. We're running out of people. If we don't conscript, we won't survive the winter."
Jason Grant fell silent, finally asking, "How many?"
"Two." Evan Clark held up two fingers and said in a low voice, "Yesterday, a two-headed seven-step snake appeared west of the village."
"Two-headed seven-step snake!" Jason Grant's face changed dramatically. "Is that two-headed seven-step snake still there?"
"The Controller killed the two-headed seven-step snake, but two members of the field team died." Evan Clark paused here, his gaze sweeping over the teenagers present.
"Eric Turner, Brian Cooper!"
The original owner of the body now occupied by Eric Turner was also called Eric Turner. Lost in his thoughts, Eric Turner was startled when he heard his name and instinctively looked up.
Brian Cooper was a somewhat frail-looking boy not far from Eric Turner.
"According to the Controller's orders, starting tomorrow, you two are members of the field team. Congratulations, you two brats—you can get married now."
Get married? Eric Turner was dumbfounded. He had just transmigrated and could already get a wife? Not bad at all.
In his previous life as an otaku, he was still single in his twenties!
But Brian Cooper blurted out, "W-why are you conscripting me? I'm not old enough. Even if you have to conscript, there are older kids than me!"
"Eric Turner, don't you agree?"
Eric Turner was speechless at Brian Cooper's words. This guy seemed scared silly and dragged a classmate in as a scapegoat to strengthen his argument.
Evan Clark said coldly, "Eric Turner, ordinary wind bloodline, ninth rank; Brian Cooper, ordinary earth bloodline, eighth rank. The chance of you two awakening as bloodline warriors is only one in ten thousand, so you're being conscripted."
"This isn't just the rule at our 9532 survival point—it's the rule for all of humanity. What, do you have a problem with that?"
