Good stuff! David Bennett felt as if he had found a treasure.
Carefully memorizing the number and password, he filled in all the required personal information for the account. Glancing at his watch, he saw it was almost time for class, so he quickly woke up Henry Jordan, who was playing CS, and hurried back to school.
Chapter 0005: The Flashy B45 and B21
After the second period of evening self-study, some students had already skipped class.
Henry Jordan hadn’t had enough of CS at noon, and David Bennett wanted to keep applying for more cool QQ numbers, especially since he still needed to look up Shawn Harris’s QQ number. The two of them discussed it and decided to skip class.
The internet café was packed. They waited nearly 20 minutes before finally snagging two computers, which were pretty far apart.
David Bennett logged into his 6-digit QQ number. Even though he had zero friends and the account was empty, he still felt great. This was probably the first good change he’d experienced since his rebirth. He made up his mind to get or buy a few cool QQ numbers from classmates before the college entrance exam.
He entered Shawn Harris’s QQ number in the QQ search bar and clicked search. David Bennett’s heartbeat sped up uncontrollably.
The result appeared!
“Huh? Male? 31 years old? Nanjing?”
David Bennett was stunned. Shawn Harris’s family was in Tianhe City in this province—how could her QQ number be in the hands of a middle-aged man in Nanjing in 2001?
David Bennett carefully double-checked the number he searched. Yes, it was definitely the right one—he knew it too well.
But David Bennett couldn’t worry about that now. He decided to add the user as a friend first and figure out the rest later. Damn, it actually required verification. What should he say? David Bennett was stumped.
Saying “I’m your husband from nine years in the future” was definitely out of the question. Never mind who was using the account now—even if it was Shawn Harris, a senior high school girl couldn’t handle that. Kids his age were nothing like the edgy crowd from years later.
Saying “Hi, let’s be friends” probably wouldn’t work either. Based on what David Bennett knew about his wife, that would almost certainly get rejected.
So frustrating!!!
Forget it. David Bennett simply typed “Let’s get to know each other” and sent it.
The other party was clearly offline, so waiting was pointless. David Bennett glanced at the games on the computer, but none of them interested him.
Just as he was about to check the news, Henry Jordan called out from the computer in front, “David Bennett, hurry up and join the gansini room in Counter-Strike, the police side is short a player.”
David Bennett went in and saw they were playing the “White Room” map.
He joined the police team. With no money, he bought a flashbang and followed the main group with just his starting pistol.
First round, David Bennett used his pistol and flashbang to take out three enemies at the back door and won.
Second round, he bought a Desert Eagle and took out four opponents, winning again.
The police side was pumped up.
Third round, David Bennett, using the name “biange,” bought a B45, and the nightmare for the opposing terrorists truly began.
From college to work, for over ten years, David Bennett always had CS on his personal computer. After starting work, whenever he was bored during the day, he’d play a bit of CS online. His best weapon was the underrated B45, and years of use had given him excellent feel for it.
With the B45, he didn’t use the scope at close or medium range, hitting 90% of his shots, and even at medium-long range, he had a 50% success rate.
In 2001, most high schoolers weren’t very good at Counter-Strike. They didn’t really understand weapon characteristics, rarely adjusted mouse speed or other game settings, and some didn’t even know how to change the resolution. Skilled players were extremely rare.
Up against a monster like David Bennett, they were utterly crushed.
Voices came from the back room: “Police in the ‘gansini’ room, don’t leave, let’s change the map.”
Henry Jordan truly deserved to be a top student. He immediately got inspiration from David Bennett’s “biange” username and, after the map change, renamed himself “zhouge.”
This time the map was “Italy.” The other side was still terrorists, and David Bennett was still their nightmare.
So, they changed the map again, this time to “Desert.”
Soon after, it was changed to “Blood Pool.”
They played “Blood Pool” the longest. David Bennett still used the B45 and Desert Eagle, while Henry Jordan switched between B21 and B22, finally settling on B21.
As long as David Bennett hit an enemy for half their health with the B45’s “Piu,” Henry Jordan would immediately jump out and finish them off with a “Bang.” If he sprayed at someone, it was basically game over for them.
Cries of “Aiyo, aiyo” and wailing came from the back room.
Henry Jordan was on a roll, but the other side quit. Soon, a few guys came out of the room, glanced around, saw Henry Jordan’s monitor, took a look, paid, and left.
By the time David Bennett dragged Henry Jordan out of the internet café, it was almost 11 p.m. David Bennett went back to school to get his bike and hurried home.
The next day at noon after lunch, Henry Jordan dragged David Bennett straight to the internet café.
David Bennett was suffering inside!
He thought, “Bro, you’re good at studying so you don’t care about this time, but I still have a pile of books to finish.” But there was no choice—he still needed a favor from him, so he had to play along!
It had to be said, Henry Jordan was really smart.
By noon, he had already mastered the key techniques for B21: shoot once, change position, and shoot while jumping.
This time, the two of them sat next to each other. After David Bennett reminded him to aim at the enemy’s chest and neck, Henry Jordan’s kill count went up another notch.
So, in the Big Eyes Internet Café, almost every Counter-Strike server had seen this two-man team: one with a B45, one with a B21. This combo dominated at all ranges and was incredibly flashy. Within a few days, whenever people saw “biange” and “zhouge” on a team, the other side would immediately switch to the team with the fewest players.
