Chapter 17

Maybe everyone didn’t have any other thoughts, nor did they plan to cheat, but still, no one wanted to sit in the first row. After all, the first row was directly facing the proctor, plus the roaming invigilators in the hallway—it was nerve-wracking!

More than half the class list had been read, and quite a few students were jotting down their classmates’ exam rooms and seat numbers, hoping that good students would end up sitting in front, behind, or beside them. Even if they couldn’t use it, just being next to them could help calm their nerves.

“Scott Dalton! City No. 4 High School, Exam Room 5, Seat 17.”

At this moment, David Bennett looked calm on the surface, but inside he was in turmoil.

Although he knew his exam room arrangement from his previous life and had always been confident during his review, now that the moment had arrived, he suddenly started to worry that something might change.

If the exam room arrangement changed and he wasn’t sitting next to Henry Jordan, then none of his planned moves would work. If that really happened, he’d basically be aiming for a perfect score of 600, desperately trying to make the second-tier university cutoff.

“David Bennett! City No. 4 High School, Exam Room 5, Seat 27.”

“Henry Jordan! City No. 4 High School, Exam Room 5, Seat 28.” When this was read, David Bennett saw the teacher glance in his direction.

……

Paths overlapped.

A huge weight was finally lifted from David Bennett’s heart.

But he noticed that Scott Dalton was actually in the same exam room as him.

Was it like this in his previous life?

He had absolutely no memory of it.

Chapter 0010 Cherish the Longing You Gave Me

The list for exam room assignments was finished.

Only four students in the class had consecutive seat numbers. One pair was two girls who weren’t very good at studying, and the other pair was David Bennett and Henry Jordan.

Henry Jordan’s grades were among the top six in the entire grade for liberal arts, and besides, everyone had noticed that David Bennett and Henry Jordan had gotten along really well over the past month or so.

A thought popped up in many students’ minds...

If Howard Payne were still at school, he’d definitely shout, “Damn!”

The homeroom teacher continued on the podium: “Tomorrow is the last day of class. If you have any questions, hurry and ask your subject teachers. Tomorrow’s evening self-study is voluntary—come if you want, if not, you can go home.”

“All your books and personal belongings at school must be taken home tomorrow. The day after tomorrow, the school will send people to rearrange the desks and chairs according to the exam room needs. Anything left behind will be treated as unwanted junk. After the seat numbers are marked, a seal will be posted at the door, and no one will be able to get in.”

“Any questions?”

A student below asked, “Teacher, what does the exam room look like?”

Hearing the question, the homeroom teacher picked up a piece of chalk and drew a snake-shaped diagram on the blackboard, marking a number at each of the eight points up and down: “Let me explain. Each exam room has 30 people. Starting from the first desk at the door, the seats are arranged in a snake pattern. Do you all understand? Before the college entrance exam, make sure to find time to visit your exam room in advance, get familiar with the route and environment, and don’t make a joke of not being able to find your exam room.” The teacher paused for a moment, “Don’t worry, the college entrance exam questions are easier than the ones we usually practice. Also, everyone must follow the exam room rules. The college entrance exam is no joke.”

Before afternoon classes, Scott Dalton went to tell David Bennett and the other four one by one that she was treating everyone to dinner tonight, because last time she hadn’t managed to treat them, and today everyone had to come.

Before, when eating together, everyone had more or less said things like hoping the college entrance exam would come quickly. If they drank, they’d mutter, “The sooner it’s over, the sooner I’m free.” But now that the time had really come, everyone fell silent. Especially Dylan Gordon, who kept looking at David Bennett, then at Henry Jordan, barely saying a word, just drinking quietly.

The exam numbers had already been handed out, and they’d be leaving school tomorrow. David Bennett had to find a chance to say to Henry Jordan what he’d been preparing for over forty days.

David Bennett was looking for an opportunity.

During dinner, Henry Jordan tried his best to act as usual. Several times he looked at David Bennett, his gaze meaningful, as if waiting for David Bennett to say something to him.

The one who kept finding topics to talk about today was Scott Dalton. She did her best to liven up the other two girls, and, unusually, drank big gulps of alcohol. David Bennett tried several times to help her drink, but she refused every time.

Halfway through the meal, Scott Dalton stood up, filled her glass, and raised it to Henry Jordan, saying she wanted to drink with him.

Henry Jordan stood up and downed the glass of alcohol in his hand.

Just as he was about to sit down, Scott Dalton took the bottle, poured half a glass for Henry Jordan, filled her own glass to the brim, said nothing, and drank it all in one go.

Scott Dalton moved so fast that David Bennett couldn’t stop her at all.

Henry Jordan glanced at David Bennett, filled his own glass, and drank it.

Scott Dalton still didn’t sit down.

She filled both her own and David Bennett’s glasses, then poured half a glass for Henry Jordan. She grabbed David Bennett’s arm, pulled him up, raised her glass to Henry Jordan, and drank again. Then she stared straight at David Bennett.

David Bennett smiled and drank the wine in his glass.

Then Scott Dalton stared straight at Henry Jordan.

This time, Henry Jordan didn’t refill his glass, just drank what was left.

Scott Dalton was a little drunk. She leaned softly on David Bennett’s shoulder, occasionally giggling foolishly.

Back in the classroom, Scott Dalton lay down on her desk and fell asleep, not waking up until almost nine o’clock.

When she woke up, she saw the yogurt David Bennett had prepared for her.
