A chill shot straight from his spine to his brain. "Damn!! Am I really about to fall straight back there?! I wanted to go back, but not like this!"
"Do something! I have to do something!" Breaking out in a cold sweat, Jack Spencer quickly rushed to the flickering screen, but found that nothing he did had any effect. Bracing both hands on the glass, he quickly swam out of the area, floating toward other rooms.
Maybe Jack Spencer had just triggered something, because some previously locked hatches could now be opened. Breaking out in a cold sweat, Jack Spencer frantically searched every kind of space capsule for a last chance at survival—an escape pod, anything, as long as he could stay alive.
"Quick, quick, quick!!" Jack Spencer could already feel the increasing centrifugal force from the rolling of the space capsule, and he knew he didn't have much time left.
Cargo bay, gym module, all sorts of compartments—Jack Spencer found them one by one.
With a "bang," Jack Spencer forcefully shoved open a half-closed hatch, and rows of robots, fixed to the walls, ceiling, and floor, appeared before him.
These robots, except for their reverse-jointed iron hooves and a row of display screens for eyes, were otherwise generally humanoid.
He had no time to marvel at the technology of these robots; all he wanted now was to ask if they knew where the escape pods were.
Seeing them, Jack Spencer felt as if he saw his last glimmer of hope. He hurriedly undid the restraining straps and began searching for the robots' power switches.
Feeling around, when Jack Spencer's fingers brushed a screen under one robot's armpit, the display at its eye position suddenly lit up, showing two simple eye icons.
"Hey? Hey, hey?! Can you hear me? Where's the escape pod? Where is it?!" Jack Spencer grabbed the floating robot and rapidly questioned it. The robot immediately responded, "Kinesiska paketet nedladdning10%50%70% Chinese data package loading complete," its voice calm yet mechanical.
"Dear user, hello. Welcome to Tapai Technology products. Please customize a name for this product."
"Come on!! Are you kidding me?! It’s this complicated?!"
"Name customization successful: Are you kidding me it’s this complicated. Please select initial mode." Three options appeared on the robot's display: Guardian Mode, Caregiver Mode, Entertainment Mode.
Anxious, Jack Spencer quickly tapped Guardian Mode, but then a bunch of other options popped up. He really hadn't expected that setting up a new robot would be this involved.
As the trembling of the space station began to shake loose some capsule components, now floating in the air, Jack Spencer finally finished the setup.
"Jack Spencer, hello. Are you kidding me it’s this complicated is happy to serve you." Two smiling eyes appeared on the robot's display.
"Do you know this place? It's about to crash!! Do you know where there’s an escape pod or a ship or something?" Jack Spencer asked urgently.
Unexpectedly, the robot actually responded. "User Level 1 Red Crisis, automatic alarm, full-process video and audio recording enabled, initiating emergency rescue. Ding~ Satellite positioning unresponsive, network connection failed, insufficient data, unable to rescue."
At that moment, a terrifying metallic screech echoed from outside, as if the entire space station was about to be torn apart. The fear of death made Jack Spencer's body tremble uncontrollably.
Just as he was about to give up on this useless robot and look for another way, the robot suddenly made a new sound.
"Connecting to unknown subnet 12.128.C1, data collection complete, rescue plan failed, error reason: insufficient logical thinking ability, unable to comprehend subnet data logic. Please authorize ROOT permissions. Upon agreement, AI logic system iteration will begin based on subnet data. Assessment: rescue probability will increase by 32.3%."
"Agree! Agree!" Jack Spencer didn't really understand what it was saying, but he understood that the rescue probability would increase.
"System iteration starting......" A progress bar appeared on the robot's display.
Just then, the entire compartment suddenly split apart, and a metal plate, like a guillotine, came slicing toward the robot's head.
Jack Spencer grabbed its metal arm and yanked it toward himself, but he forgot he was in zero gravity. When he pulled the robot over, conservation of momentum sent him to the robot's previous position.
As the metal plate was about to stab into his head, Jack Spencer kicked hard off the robot, and the plate grazed right past his face.
Propelled by the kick, Jack Spencer crashed into the wall and finally stopped. Before he could catch his breath, a rapidly spinning nut shot toward his neck like a bullet.
Just as the nut was about to pierce Jack Spencer's neck, an iron hand suddenly reached out from the side. With a clang, the two collided, sending sparks flying, and the nut was knocked far away.
Following the metal arm, Jack Spencer saw that the robot he had just activated was using its metal body to shield most of his left side.
The robot slowly raised its metal head, and its eyes met Jack Spencer's.
