Chapter 8

The crew-cut interviewer said, “Let me remind you, you’re interviewing for the position of World Architect, and the poems you write are for the players to see. No need to be pretentious, and it doesn’t have to be that rigorous, but it has to attract players, you get it?”

On the surface, his words seemed to help William Carter, but in reality, he was making things harder. Because although he hinted that the structure and rhyme of the poem weren’t necessary, he emphasized one thing: players must like it!

The standard of “players liking it” is so vague. If the poem’s content is mediocre and doesn’t catch the eye, then even if the format is perfect, it’s useless.

Manager Bennett looked grimly at the time on his wristband.

Five minutes—not to mention coming up with something, even searching online might not yield anything suitable!

But after just two minutes, William Carter spoke up!

“To ask why we fight”

“Is to ask why the leaves fall”

“It is in the nature”

“Perhaps there is a better question……”

The interviewers were all shocked. The crew-cut examiner quickly searched the first two lines online, but found nothing!

William Carter’s voice was deep, filled with emotion, a bit like telling a story, and a bit like reflecting.

“Why do we fight”

“To protect home and family”

“To preserve balance and bring harmony”

“For my kind”

“The true question is what is worth fighting for!”

Nine lines in total, with a rather free format, but in terms of content, it definitely fit the theme of “war.” And with William Carter’s heartfelt recitation, it carried an inexplicable impact!

Manager Bennett was also stunned, but he wasn’t ready to give up: “I’ll give you another five minutes, Chinese version!”

No need for five minutes—William Carter didn’t even pause and immediately recited the Chinese version.

“战火为何而燃?”

“秋叶为何而落?”

“天性不可夺,”

“吾辈心中亦有惑。”

“怒拳为谁握?”

“护国安邦惩奸恶,”

“道法自然除心魔!”

“战无休而祸不息,”

“吾辈何以为战!”

As soon as the Chinese version came out, the entire meeting room fell silent.

Even Manager Bennett, who had been itching to find fault, had to admit that this poem was excellently written—and even more impressively, the Chinese version was better than the English one!

This poem could be used directly as promotional material for the game—there was absolutely nothing to change, not a single word!

“Clap, clap, clap.”

The interviewer with the short beard actually started applauding!

Chapter 6: Joined an Old Project

Manager Bennett never expected that a question with a 100% chance of being unanswerable would actually be answered by this young man!

Not only did he answer it, but the answer was perfect. To come up with another question? He really couldn’t think of one!

And judging by the situation, coming up with a new question would probably just embarrass himself further. He’d already lost enough face today, and being laughed at by the short-bearded supervisor—there was no point in dragging this out.

“All right, the interview is over. Go home and wait for our notice.”

Manager Bennett waved his hand, signaling that William Carter could leave.

William Carter knew his chances in this interview weren’t great. These people were quite prejudiced against him; they weren’t really recruiting with the intention of finding talent.

But seeing that the short-bearded supervisor appreciated him, maybe he could give him a hand.

William Carter turned and left the meeting room.

As soon as William Carter left, the short-bearded supervisor immediately said, “Don’t call the next one in yet, let’s discuss this candidate.”

Everyone looked at Manager Bennett, whose expression was unpleasant. He snorted and said, “This kid doesn’t know any manners, and he’s pretty stubborn. He’s clearly good at concept art, but insists on interviewing for a design position… What, Manager Foster, you want to bring him onto your project? I remember your project doesn’t lack a World Architect.”

Manager Foster stroked his beard. “I think he’s fully capable. When hiring talent, we shouldn’t be too rigid.”

Manager Bennett’s face darkened. He thought, “You know perfectly well that the World Architect position is already reserved, and you still want to hire this guy? Are you deliberately making things difficult for me?”

Manager Foster also realized this and smiled. “World Architect is out of the question. Since I want this person, he’ll be on my project, but my project doesn’t lack a World Architect either. How about this: let’s give him an intern offer, let him do some odd jobs on the project for now, and we’ll see about promoting him later.”

Manager Bennett felt relieved when he heard this.

Since it’s just an intern spot, it’s not a big deal. Besides, it’s Manager Foster who wants someone for his own project, so he couldn’t really object.

“Let’s do that, then. Since Manager Foster wants him, give him an intern position. But, judging by this kid’s pride, he might not come,” Manager Bennett said.

Manager Foster copied William Carter’s resume and saved it. “He will. The other big companies in Ming’an City are just like us—there aren’t many hiring plans this year. He might not find a better opportunity.”
