Chapter 20

Alice Parker said: In your eyes, there is bone-deep hatred and purity—you can't possibly be a bad person. The reason you want to kill Samuel Bennett must be because Samuel Bennett did something that drove you to desperation.

It was just that one sentence that allowed Henry Carter's lonely, painful, and despairing heart to see a glimmer of hope, to find a thread of life.

And that very night, Alice Parker brought him back to the The Parker Family, and had the The Parker Family's private doctor save him from his severe injuries, though he was left with a crippled leg.

Without Alice Parker, he would have died early in his previous life—how could he have become the later master of Xuanqi, a grand alchemist, a divine doctor? He wouldn't have been reborn in this life, either.

It could be said that it was Alice Parker who gave him a new life.

And it was during his time at the The Parker Family that he learned Alice Parker's health was not good; she seemed to have contracted a strange illness.

Because of the torment of that strange illness, Alice Parker grew more and more haggard. Henry Carter saw this and felt anxious. He swore to become a divine doctor—he wanted to save Alice Parker.

Unfortunately, in the end, he did not succeed, because it was only in the fifth year after leaving the The Parker Family that he achieved any real medical skill.

When he returned to the The Parker Family, Alice Parker had already been dead for several years!!!

"In this life, I should be able to cure your strange illness, right?" Henry Carter murmured to himself, and couldn't help but give a bitter smile.

There really were quite a few women entangled with him, and every single one of them was so outstanding, every single one was extremely, extremely, extremely important to him, every single one was a regret from his previous life, and every single one was someone he absolutely could not let down or abandon in this life.

"In my previous life, I was all alone, lonely for a lifetime. In this life, there will be many women by my side, accompanying me to witness the splendor and brilliance of this fleeting world, right?"

Henry Carter shook his head and sighed. Then, his gaze grew firm again. He was not someone to get stuck in dilemmas—since this life was destined to be this way, he should just accept it.

At the very least, he knew that whether it was for Grace Walker or for Alice Parker, his feelings were pure, and he was willing to pay any price to change their fates, to shield them from the storms of life—even if it cost him his own life, he would not hesitate.

After thinking it through, Henry Carter gripped Grace Walker's small hand even tighter and continued strolling.

Half an hour later.

The two of them returned to the apartment.

As they walked into the apartment, in that instant, Henry Carter felt as if a lifetime had passed.

"You watch TV, I'll go cook!" Grace Walker took off her white cloth shoes, took off her socks with cartoon patterns, revealing her fair little feet with pale pink nail polish, slipped on her slippers, and cheerfully walked toward the kitchen.

Chapter 11: Stopping

Henry Carter saw all this, and his heart was filled with warmth.

He leaned back on the sofa, didn't turn on the TV, but instead tilted his head back slightly and closed his eyes. Suddenly, he felt his heart become completely calm.

Home is always the best harbor, and for Henry Carter, this apartment was home—a home that haunted his dreams.

In the kitchen, there was the sound of sizzling. Grace Walker was cooking while happily humming a little tune.

A smile gradually appeared on Henry Carter's face.

After a long while.

He took a deep breath and began to think and recall some things.

Even after being reborn, he couldn't afford to be careless, because this world really wasn't simple!!!

"Dinner's ready!" As he was lost in thought, who knows how much time had passed, when suddenly, Grace Walker's voice came.

Only then did Henry Carter snap out of his thoughts. Looking at the dishes being set on the table, he couldn't wait any longer.

"Smells great!" Henry Carter took a deep breath and praised.

"Of course!" Grace Walker smiled even more happily. After living together with Henry Carter for several months, she had cooked for him so many times, but this was the first time he had complimented her cooking.

The next second, Henry Carter picked up his chopsticks and started eating.

He wolfed down the food!

Truly wolfed it down!

Bite after bite, as he ate, his eyes grew a little moist. The familiar taste—how wonderful.

"Why are you crying?" Grace Walker noticed that Henry Carter's eyes were a bit red.

"No, it's just that the mapo tofu is too spicy!"

Henry Carter couldn't even remember the last time he cried. In his previous life, after Grace died, he probably never cried again, right?

Men cry too—sometimes out of sadness, sometimes out of excitement, sometimes out of emotion...

"Then eat slower, you're acting like you've never eaten before!" Grace Walker scolded him, but though she scolded, she was as gentle as a little wife.

That lunch, Henry Carter and Grace Walker took about half an hour to finish—much, much slower than usual.

But neither he nor she felt the passage of time.

"This afternoon, there are no classes, right?" After eating, the two of them half-reclined on the sofa, one arm around Grace Walker, and Henry Carter asked.

"Nope!"

"This afternoon I need to go to school. You should go home for a bit and tell your dad that tomorrow, I'll be visiting your family!"

Grace Walker was startled. She looked up, a little nervous, a little moved, and a little at a loss: "This... this..."

"Don't worry, I've got everything covered. Your parents will agree!" Henry Carter said with a confident smile.

Grace had been living with him all this time—did she really think her parents didn't know? Of course they knew!

How could they possibly agree to let their daughter live with him? Especially when he had nothing at all.
