Chapter 7

Meanwhile, in the main cabin of the airship, all the teachers—including Dr. Carter—were utterly stunned, their eyes wide open as they stared at one of the many crystal screens floating before them.

On that screen, it was the scene inside the Chiyun Rainforest, where, after saving Megan Foster, Brian Brooks had fallen unconscious.

“What’s this chubby kid’s name?!”

“Even though it’s a dream maze, it’s exactly like reality. His actions inside reflect his true character!”

“So brave, so fearless in saving his classmate—this child is a once-in-a-century talent! He’s exactly the kind of outstanding student our Dao Institute longs for!!”

For a long moment, the teachers all exclaimed in amazement, showering Brian Brooks with praise. Some were already tempted, considering whether to recruit Brian Brooks directly into their own departments.

Even the head of the Misty Dao Institute, that Dr. Carter, was a bit dumbfounded. Doubt crept into his heart, and he faintly felt something was off.

“Could I really have misjudged him?” Lost in thought, he simply pulled out Brian Brooks’s file from the student records and began to read it carefully.

Chapter 3: A Good Classmate—You Can Count on Me!

When Brian Brooks woke up, a whole day had already passed in this dream maze. The snake venom wasn’t as severe as everyone had imagined; among the group, there was a classmate skilled in treating snake bites, so Brian Brooks’s beautiful wish went unfulfilled.

Fortunately, after he woke up, the little white rabbit named Emily Parker took meticulous care of him, and even Megan Foster—rarely—didn’t argue with him. This made Brian Brooks feel at ease, and he began to imagine how his heroic rescue would surely be seen by the teachers, and that he’d earn plenty of extra points in this assessment.

The only thing that frustrated him was that, in the days that followed, as the team trekked through the jungle searching for other classmates, David Clark—for reasons unknown, perhaps out of guilt for what had happened before—kept jumping in to handle every minor crisis they encountered, always taking the lead and resolving things quickly. This left the already weakened Brian Brooks with no chance to show off.

To make matters worse, nothing as dramatic as the snake swarm happened again, leaving Brian Brooks feeling that all his remarkable skills had nowhere to be used. All he could do was watch as David Clark kept racking up assessment points.

“If David Clark keeps this up, he might end up with more hidden points than me!” In the end, Brian Brooks grew anxious. But this feeling didn’t last long. On the second night, while they were camping beneath a narrow mountain pass, they suddenly heard a series of chilling wolf howls.

The sound seemed to pierce through the rocks, stabbing everyone’s eardrums and jolting them awake. As they looked around, they immediately saw countless pairs of blood-red eyes lighting up in the endless forest ahead.

Under the moonlight, an uncountable number of fierce wolves were closing in, forming a fan-shaped encirclement. Some wolves raced along the ground, others leapt from branch to branch. Their howls and bloodthirsty eyes sent chills down everyone’s spine!

The scene was like a suffocating gale, making David Clark and the others’ faces change dramatically, cold sweat pouring down as their scalps tingled.

“Run! It’s a wolf pack!”

“It’s the Ghostbone Wolves—countless Ghostbone Wolves!”

After the snake incident, Megan Foster seemed to have matured a lot. She immediately shouted for everyone to enter the narrow pass, using the mountain ravine there to block the wolves.

David Clark’s expression kept shifting, but in the end, he gritted his teeth and, instead of retreating, called on his classmates to hold off the wolves and buy time.

In the chaos, the little white rabbit clung to Brian Brooks, trembling but pulling him along with the group toward the narrow pass. But Brian Brooks was already anxious.

In his mind, it was one thing to let David Clark have a few minor points before, but now that such a big opportunity had come, how could he let David Clark steal it? In an instant, it was as if a holy fire ignited in his eyes. He straightened up, suddenly looking imposing, and stomped his foot.

“Junior Little Emily, you go first!”

With that, Brian Brooks dashed straight toward David Clark, grabbed him, and before David Clark could react, tossed him in the direction of the narrow pass, shouting,

“Brother, you go ahead—I’ve got this!”

David Clark was completely stunned. Before he could react, he saw Brian Brooks charging fearlessly at the wolf pack.

“Everyone, go! I’ll cover you!” At that moment, Brian Brooks radiated justice and heroism once again. The little white rabbit, watching from afar, felt her heart tremble.

Some of the male classmates, who had already entered the narrow pass, were so inspired by Brian Brooks that their blood boiled and they turned to follow him. But Brian Brooks, eyes red, kicked each one back.

“Good brothers, you go first!” Brian Brooks shouted righteously, but inside he was on guard, afraid someone would steal his points!

In his eyes, no matter how terrifying these wolves looked, they were all assessment points.
