Olivia Miller got out of bed and put on his shoes, tiptoeing as he headed outside.
After a moment’s thought, he turned back and covered Lily with the quilt.
Silly girl, actually thought she could keep me here with a tangram—looking at Lily sleeping soundly, he shook his head and smiled.
At this hour, Blade was in the main kitchen getting food. Olivia Miller crossed the courtyard and quickly ran outside.
After a long while, he finally found the back gate of the courtyard. It was from here that he and Lily had entered and exited yesterday.
"Third Young Master."
Olivia Miller nodded and walked calmly toward the gate.
The next moment, however, he was grabbed by two house servants.
"What are you doing? I want to go out."
One servant had a red, bulbous nose, the other a pockmarked face. The two exchanged a glance, and the pockmarked one said, "Third Young Master, how can you go out... like this."
"I went out yesterday," Olivia Miller said, somewhat disgruntled.
"Yesterday, Miss Lily was with you... ya," said the red-nosed servant.
He wasn’t very practiced at speaking in a teasing tone to children, so the last "ya" sounded a bit awkward.
Just hearing this tone, Olivia Miller was already furious inside, wishing he could give them a beating.
And from what they said, it seemed that without Lily leading him, he couldn’t go out at all.
"I’m telling you..." Olivia Miller frowned, his tone carrying a hint of authority.
He planned to show a bit of dominance to intimidate the two servants.
But then he thought—after being in a daze for so long, suddenly acting differently would definitely arouse suspicion. Not to mention, there was still a murderer out to get him.
A real man knows when to yield and when to stand tall. In these deep mansion struggles over inheritance, who knew whose people these servants were?
"I’m going to tell Sister Lily that you’re bullying me!" he said.
The two servants didn’t take this threat seriously, but still forced a fake, friendly smile.
"Third Young Master, please don’t make things difficult for us... oh."
"Go back quickly... oh."
With that, they set Olivia Miller down.
Olivia Miller had no choice but to straighten his clothes and head back.
"Oh, you guys are something else, oh."
Though he felt a bit stifled, who goes through life without swallowing a little indignity? He comforted himself as he retraced his steps.
But after about half an hour, he realized he was lost.
He kicked a rock by the artificial hill at the side of the path, cursing inwardly that even the courtyard was against him.
"Hahahahaha..."
A woman’s laughter came from behind.
Olivia Miller turned to look and saw a woman of about twenty-five or twenty-six, leading two maids, watching him.
The woman was dressed as a matron, quite beautiful, with fair skin, shallow dimples, and bright, lively eyes.
But Olivia Miller thought she looked a bit silly.
"Isn’t this Olivia?" she said, covering her mouth as she laughed. "What’s wrong? Don’t recognize me? I’m your mother, you know."
The two stared at each other.
Olivia Miller looked utterly confused.
Mother? You’re only about ten years older than me—must be a stepmother.
The next moment, his cheek was pinched.
"Every time I see this child, I think he’s too handsome, looks just like me, hahahahaha..."
Her laughter wasn’t grating, nor did it sound mocking. On the contrary, it was genuine, even a little pleasant.
It was as if she’d told a really funny joke and was giggling at herself.
Olivia Miller curled his lips—this woman had a low sense of humor and seemed a bit silly.
"Call me ‘mother’ and let me hear it, hahahahaha..."
Olivia Miller replied irritably, "I’m lost."
"Hahahaha, you’re lost?" The woman laughed so hard she was shaking, waving her hand in front of herself several times. "Lost in your own home? Where’s that silly girl who’s always glued to you?"
Apparently finding her use of the phrase "glued to you" hilarious, she burst out laughing again.
Hearing her call Lily a "silly girl," Olivia Miller felt a bit annoyed, thinking to himself, "With a sense of humor this low, aren’t you afraid you’ll choke on your own laughter?"
He couldn’t be bothered with her, turning away and trudging off.
"Oh my, are you angry? Hahahahaha..." The woman caught up to him. "Alright, alright, Auntie will take you back to your courtyard."
Olivia Miller wasn’t really angry, so he let her lead him back.
On the way, the woman said to her two maids, "Did you hear that just now? Hahahahaha..."
She hadn’t even finished her sentence before she was laughing so hard she was out of breath.
Finally catching her breath, she continued, "I teased his maid and he got all upset. Oh my, look at that little face, he’s gone pale with anger, hahahahaha..."
The two maids could only cover their mouths and laugh along with her.
Olivia Miller was speechless inside.
He could tell this woman meant no harm, she just liked to joke around.
But she really was a bit noisy.
Fortunately, the walk wasn’t long. After a while, they turned down a path and saw his little courtyard.
Lily and Blade were running out anxiously, clearly looking for Olivia Miller. When they looked up and saw him, they rushed over at once.
