Chapter 2

Suddenly, a young man's voice rang out. Before Henry Clark could make out what was being said, a foot stepped on his leg. Fortunately, the owner of that foot probably stepped on him by accident, so the step was light and unsteady, causing the person to fall down beside Henry Clark instead, while Henry Clark's leg only felt a slight pain and wasn't really injured.

Startled by this, Henry Clark pretended to be jolted awake, opened his eyes as if nothing had happened, and was immediately met with a blinding brightness. The dazzling white sunlight was so intense that Henry Clark couldn't see anything around him at all, forcing him to close his eyes again, tears even streaming out.

It wasn't until a moment later, when Henry Clark finally opened his eyes and looked around, that he was truly shocked.

What he saw was a very modern city block. He was lying by the side of a street, with pedestrians walking along the road and many vehicles driving on the highway. In addition, there were more than a dozen people lying beside him. This group of people lay there, yet the surrounding pedestrians and vehicles on the road showed no reaction at all. Everyone seemed to ignore them, passing by as if they didn't exist. Strangely, even when people walked straight toward them, they would naturally turn aside and detour around them as they got close.

After waking up, Henry Clark put on a look of surprise and glanced around... In fact, he was indeed very surprised, but inside he was constantly calculating and thinking. In just over ten seconds, he had already observed the general situation around him.

First, the temperature and season. From the temperature he felt, the intensity of the sunlight, the clothing of the people around, and the trees planted along the street, it was clear that it was summer. There was no doubt about that.

But that was just a premise, not the key point. The key was... this was the Northern Hemisphere!

Yes, Henry Clark had already vaguely realized where he was. If his memory wasn't mistaken, this should be Los Angeles. His organization had a fairly large office here, which could be used to contact the base, and he was quite familiar with this street, so the chance of being wrong was very small.

So, here's the problem...

Before coming here, he was clearly in the base studying information. At that time, it was around November, the early winter season, about to enter winter. The base was also in the Northern Hemisphere, though located in Europe, but that didn't change the fact that the seasons would be the same in the Northern Hemisphere. So... how could he suddenly go from early winter to summer in the blink of an eye? That made no scientific sense at all!

(Unless... after I touched the computer screen, I was unconscious for about eight to ten months, which would explain going from November to July or August. But if I really had been in a coma for that long, even with the most advanced medical equipment keeping me alive, my muscles and body would definitely have atrophied and degenerated. But... right now, I'm perfectly fine, my physical condition hasn't changed at all, nothing like someone who's been in a coma for eight to ten months. How is that possible!)

With a look of shock, Henry Clark stood up from the ground. At this moment, the other people lying on the ground were also waking up one after another, with seven or eight people standing up, so his action didn't seem out of place. While Henry Clark stood there deliberately looking around, he carefully checked for any surveillance devices or snipers nearby.

At the same time, suddenly, a person who had just stood up exclaimed in English, "What is this? Glass? Hey, can someone help us make a call..."

The person who spoke was a young blond man in his twenties, with an ordinary appearance and wearing glasses. He was now pressed against the air about ten meters from where everyone had been lying. Yes, his whole body was pressed there, leaning forward, with nothing in front of him, yet he wasn't falling down. This scene stunned everyone who had stood up and started talking noisily.

What was this? A force field from a sci-fi movie? Or was it some kind of strange magic?

Everyone couldn't help but look at the young man. By now, almost everyone had gotten up from the ground. Except for Henry Clark, nearly everyone walked over to the young man, wanting to touch the invisible barrier.

Just then, a clear female voice suddenly came from beside Henry Clark: "Hey, handsome, aren't you curious? Why don't you go check out that barrier?" As she spoke, a beautiful woman with brown hair in a red dress walked out from behind Henry Clark with a smile.

(...Impossible! I didn't even sense her presence just now... When did she get so close to me?)

Henry Clark's body tensed slightly, but he quickly relaxed, not bothering to respond to the woman's question, instead looking toward the group of people by the invisible barrier.

The woman frowned, then asked again, "Handsome? I'm talking to you."
