Chapter 7

Brian Clark chewed on roasted rat meat, his eyes fixed intently on the schematic diagram of the engine inside Logan Carter before him. It had taken Brian Clark a great deal of effort to persuade Logan Carter to agree to this. It was simply too complex and ingenious—Brian Clark couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. Having grown up under his father’s influence, Brian Clark was definitely an expert in mechanics, but the schematic before him left him utterly dazzled. Helpless, he could only work through it bit by bit, but the more he did so, the more he admired the designer of this engine.

After staring for a long time, Brian Clark felt his eyes growing sore, so he shifted his gaze away from the schematic and glanced at Logan Carter, who stood motionless to the side. He couldn’t help but tease, “Mu, you might as well give up. This pulse relay station isn’t so easy to hack! Back in the day, even my old man tried many times, but he never succeeded once.”

Logan Carter didn’t move, as if he hadn’t heard Brian Clark speak at all.

Brian Clark’s habit of talking to himself kicked in again. While staring at the schematic, he muttered, “Mu, I’m telling you, there’s no point in trying something that’s absolutely impossible. If you have time, why not come help me out? I’ve been staring at this damn diagram for ages, and it’s giving me a headache. But the person who designed this really is a genius. Tsk tsk, incredible, truly incredible…”

Suddenly, Logan Carter spoke: “Infiltration successful!”

Brian Clark’s eyes still didn’t leave the schematic as he replied absentmindedly, “What? Infiltration successful? Come on, Mu, since when did you learn to joke? Ha, not bad, not bad, you’re making progress! But Mu, if you didn’t succeed, you didn’t succeed. For something that’s basically impossible, it’s only natural not to succeed, so no one’s going to laugh at you…”

Logan Carter ignored Brian Clark and continued, “This week’s headlines in the Fa’er System: the new space floating garden Tanfu began moving in new residents this Monday. The first batch of new residents will enjoy the following preferential policies…”

Brian Clark’s gaze froze, his hands stilled, and then he jerked his head up in disbelief. “You—you really did it?”

Logan Carter replied calmly, “Without a doubt!”

Brian Clark asked cautiously, “Are you sure?”

Logan Carter said, “I’m sure!”

“Ha, haha, I can finally know what’s happening in the outside world! I can finally know what’s happening in the outside world…” Brian Clark leapt up with joy. With a bang, he hit the ceiling hard from using too much force, but Brian Clark didn’t seem to feel a thing. He just ran excitedly around the house, venting his emotions.

Watching Brian Clark’s excitement, Logan Carter’s cold face softened for a moment, but it was fleeting, and in the next instant, he returned to his usual expression.

Brian Clark carefully sat in the cockpit inside Logan Carter, put on his combat helmet, and lay quietly on the soft seat. But inside, his heart was in turmoil—excitement, longing, curiosity, and a trace of fear of the unfamiliar environment. These emotions tangled together, making it impossible for him to calm down.

Logan Carter’s voice sounded in Brian Clark’s ear: “Yezi, are you ready?”

The moment he heard Logan Carter’s voice, for some reason, Brian Clark’s anxious heart gradually settled down. Brian Clark took a deep breath and answered steadily, “Ready!”

As soon as he finished speaking, everything before Brian Clark changed dramatically.

Brian Clark shook his slightly dizzy head, and Logan Carter’s voice sounded in his mind at just the right moment: “It’s common for first-time users of the virtual net to feel a bit dizzy. This is normal and harmless to the body.”

Somewhat understanding, Brian Clark began to take in his surroundings.

The first thing he saw was a curtain of light woven from beams of every color. These dazzling, vibrant lights moved and shifted like living things, constantly generating new colors!

The intense visual impact gave Brian Clark an unprecedented sense of awe!

Growing up on the junk planet, Brian Clark’s world had only the black-and-white of metal, the orange glow of the star, and the vast expanse of rust. He had never imagined that colors could be so bright, so rich!

Brian Clark stood there motionless, dumbfounded, gazing in fascination at the mesmerizing colors before him!

Someone walked past Brian Clark, saw his dazed look, and muttered under their breath, “Idiot!”

The insult snapped Brian Clark out of his trance, and a trace of bitterness welled up in his heart. How could these privileged people understand the hardships of his life! Fortunately, Brian Clark wasn’t one to wallow in self-pity. After a brief moment of disappointment, he returned to normal.

As if sensing something, the previously silent Logan Carter spoke: “Yezi, now you can step out of the curtain of light!”

Following the instruction, Brian Clark stepped out of the light curtain, and a vast plaza appeared before him. The square was filled with all kinds of machines whose names Brian Clark didn’t even know. In the very center stood a giant electronic screen, broadcasting all sorts of news and headlines.

“The central plaza is the news area. This is my first time here too, so you should explore on your own. If you run into any trouble, just call for me in your mind—I can pick up your brainwave signals! Alright! That’s it!”

Logan Carter’s voice abruptly stopped, and then there was only silence.

Brian Clark couldn’t help but smile wryly, but his worries were quickly replaced by intense curiosity. Brian Clark looked around inquisitively, his feet moving involuntarily.
