Today is the last day of this week. If it still isn’t finished, next week will mean eating a whole week of thin, bland organic liquid food. Just looking at that stuff makes Brian Clark feel sick, let alone eating it!
Where exactly is the problem? Brian Clark knows Logan very well—if Logan set this parameter, then it means Blackbird can definitely accomplish it.
But why is it always just a little bit off? Brian Clark pondered bitterly.
During training, Grace caught sight of her cousin in the stands and happily piloted her Blackbird mecha, stumbling and bumping her way toward Emily Scott. But her skills were truly terrible, and before she knew it—bang—the Blackbird’s head crashed into a metal pipe suspended in midair. In a panic, Grace let out a startled cry that echoed through the room via the mecha.
This cry also snapped Emily Scott, who had been focused on YC, back to attention. She looked up just in time to see her cousin’s mecha plummeting from midair toward the ground. Emily Scott gasped inwardly—her cousin had always been timid and frail, and had always kept her distance from mechas. If she got scared this time, not only might she fall seriously ill, but she could also be left with a psychological shadow, developing a fear of piloting mechas in the future. In an instant, Emily Scott on the stands immediately summoned her Shadow Phoenix, cranked the speed to the highest setting, and dashed toward her cousin, hoping to catch her before she hit the ground.
But the air was filled with all sorts of bizarre obstacles, greatly slowing Emily Scott down. Watching her cousin get closer and closer to the ground, with a long distance still between them, Emily Scott grew so anxious she was nearly in tears.
That startled cry also snapped Brian Clark, who had been lost in thought not far away, back to reality. He saw a Blackbird, just like his own, falling from the sky toward the ground.
Brian Clark didn’t hesitate. His hands moved suddenly, and his Blackbird shot toward its fellow as swiftly as the wind.
Maybe, deep down, this was also a reason for Brian Clark’s action. With only Logan for company, perhaps Brian Clark longed for another of his kind more than anyone else!
There was no time to think. The chaotic obstacles made Brian Clark feel as if he were back in the real world’s disorderly, trash-strewn hunting grounds. The techniques he’d practiced so hard for a week suddenly flashed through his mind. Brian Clark seemed to have an epiphany, and instinctively began to operate in an orderly, unhurried manner—his hands moving even slower than usual!
Brian Clark’s Blackbird glided through the chaotic obstacles like a wisp of smoke—unhindered, without the slightest snag, moving freely and smoothly, as if it were second nature.
When the other Blackbird was still three meters from the ground, Brian Clark’s Blackbird caught it, then gradually slowed down, gliding a short distance before Brian Clark brought it to a steady landing.
Brian Clark said calmly, “Alright, it’s okay now!” and set the Blackbird down.
Two seconds later, a Shadow Phoenix-II also flew up to the Blackbird—probably its friend, Brian Clark guessed with a hint of envy. Suddenly, Brian Clark realized this Shadow Phoenix looked familiar—ah, he suddenly remembered, it was the mecha he’d sparred with the first time he came here. Seeing the Shadow Phoenix look his way, Brian Clark nodded slightly in greeting.
Out of habit, Brian Clark glanced at his light-brain—and froze!
Section Ten
He had actually completed the training by accident!
Brian Clark’s mind went blank for a moment—he still didn’t understand how he’d met the requirements!
Brian Clark tried piloting the Blackbird and restarted the training several times, and each time he met the requirements! Brian Clark was completely baffled—how did this happen?
Oh well, since he couldn’t figure it out, Brian Clark wasn’t too interested in finding the reason. As long as his skills improved, that was enough! More importantly, he wouldn’t have to eat organic liquid food next week!
Brian Clark didn’t linger, immediately logging out of the virtual net—he still had steel ball training waiting for him! Ever since Wendy got injured, Logan had put steel ball training back on the agenda.
But through this training, Brian Clark also realized one thing: speed isn’t everything!
Emily Scott gently comforted her cousin, whose face was pale with fright. She couldn’t help but feel grateful to YC—thank goodness he caught her cousin, or who knows what might have happened. But when she thought about how he’d been even farther away than she was, yet still got there faster, a trace of fear rose in Emily Scott’s heart. But that fear was quickly washed away by intense curiosity. How had his skills improved so quickly? Had he really been hiding his strength last time?
With eyes still tinged with fear, her serene and delicate face was as white as snow, her long black hair slightly disheveled, and her slender body trembling—Grace looked like a flower bud struggling and shivering in the cold wind, stirring a surge of pity in anyone’s heart.
Emily Scott gently smoothed Grace’s hair. Unable to hold back any longer, Grace threw herself into Emily Scott’s arms and began to sob softly. Emily Scott silently stroked Grace’s fragrant shoulder, the very picture of a caring older sister. In fact, Grace was only a little over ten days younger than Emily Scott, but because of her timid nature, she’d always followed Emily Scott around since childhood. Emily Scott had always cherished this cousin who was just a bit younger than her. With her strong personality and her father’s guidance, no one had dared to mess with her since she was little, and she naturally became Grace’s protector. Two years ago, when her aunt’s family moved away, Grace and Emily Scott were separated, but in her heart, Grace still relied deeply on this older sister.
