Chapter 2

He furrowed his nonexistent brows. With a thought, his entire spiritual soul instantly floated up and drifted down beside a pristine white stone pillar amidst the ruins.

This stone pillar stood at the very front of the temple. It was the tallest among the remaining colonnades and the only one relatively intact.

From top to bottom, the pillar was densely inscribed with a long string of numbers, recording the daily changes in the number of believers since he took over as the God of Light.

The earliest set of data was from nearly a year ago, the day he inherited the divine kingdom.

At that time, he still had 1 fanatic believer and 708 shallow believers. But now, he was left with only 316 shallow believers.

William Clark used his soul power to pick up a sharp stone and filled in the number 316 on the last line. Then, from top to bottom, he carefully looked over all the numbers.

“Sigh, there aren’t many days left.”

Casually tossing the stone aside, William Clark murmured, his mood growing even worse.

The number of his believers had actually always been changing, but at first, the decrease was relatively slow, and sometimes there would even be a slight increase.

But half a year ago, the faith channel of his only fanatic believer suddenly collapsed. Since then, the number of shallow believers began to plummet, and recently, it had been dropping by several almost every day.

At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before the number of his believers dropped to zero.

Just thinking of this outcome made William Clark’s heart sink.

When he inherited the position of God of Light, he also inherited some scattered knowledge. He knew that a god’s power came from divine power.

Divine power was a mighty and magnificent force. It could be used to shape a physical body, repair the divine kingdom, create angels, open the gates of heaven, and bestow blessings upon believers...

It could do anything, even create a world.

Given the current state of the divine kingdom, which could completely shatter at any moment, the only way to change the situation and halt its gradual collapse was through divine power.

To condense divine power, faith power had to be consumed. And believers were the source of faith power.

Once the number of believers dropped to zero, he would have no more source of faith power, and no possibility of condensing divine power.

If that really happened, there would be nothing he could do. He could only watch helplessly as the claw mark above his head grew larger and the cracks on the outer wall of the divine kingdom multiplied, until one day in the future, he would be buried in the void along with this divine kingdom.

Death might be frightening, but watching death approach bit by bit, powerless to do anything, was even more terrifying.

The pressure of that gradual, step-by-step approach of death alone was enough to drive someone mad.

Just thinking about this made William Clark’s skin crawl—he absolutely did not want it to become reality.

Divine power!

He had to condense divine power!

According to the information he inherited along with the godhood, as long as he accumulated 1000 points of faith power, he could condense divine power.

He currently had 999 points of faith power—just 1 point short of condensing divine power.

Only 1 point left!

William Clark decided that from now on, he would keep a constant watch on the faith power and believer numbers. After all, he was now a soul form, didn’t need to eat, drink, or sleep, so staring at the numbers twenty-four hours a day was no problem.

He drifted to a random spot and stopped, focusing on the data in his mind, beginning a long and agonizing wait.

Unknowingly, an hour passed, then two...

Half a day later, the number of shallow believers dropped from 316 to 313, but the faith power didn’t increase.

The next day, the number of shallow believers dropped from 313 to 309, and the faith power still didn’t increase.

On the third day, the number of shallow believers dropped from 309 to 299, and the faith power still didn’t increase.

On the fourth day, the number of shallow believers plummeted from 299 to 286—a loss of 13 in one go—yet the faith power still didn’t increase.

As time passed, William Clark grew more anxious and irritable. Every time the number of believers dropped by one, it felt as if a piece of flesh was being gouged from his heart, the pain making it bleed.

Unconsciously, his whole being—or rather, the entire god—was consumed by unease.

In these agonizing days, a ray of hope finally dawned.

Without warning, the number after faith power suddenly jumped from 999 to 1000!

Numb as he was, William Clark’s “breath” caught sharply.

1000 points.

His faith power had finally reached 1000!

A surge of wild joy filled his heart. He could hardly believe his own senses and couldn’t help but check several times before finally confirming that his faith power had truly reached 1000.

He could finally condense divine power!

Steadying himself, William Clark immediately gave an order to the godhood, his tone incomparably solemn and excited: “Godhood, condense divine power!”

As soon as the words fell, something miraculous happened.

A beam of white light burst forth from the depths of his soul.

The next second, he felt a majestic and vast power merge into his soul, making his whole being tremble, and he felt as if he had become countless times stronger in an instant!
