Chapter 17

Just as the peasant woman was about to kneel and beg the God of Light to forgive her daughter, a majestic and dignified yet compassionate and tolerant voice resounded in the sky: “This child’s soul is innocent and pure. From now on, let her follow the Saintess Catherine to learn the ways of a nun.”

“Catherine obeys my Lord’s divine will.”

Kneeling on one knee, the Saintess of Light, Catherine, bowed solemnly to accept the command.

As soon as the God of Light descended, she stopped chanting the Hymn of Light so that everyone’s attention would be focused on the great God of Light.

The peasant woman, filled with excitement and gratitude, knelt down in worship: “Thank you, my Lord, for your mercy. Thank you, my Lord, for your boundless grace.”

The great God of Light not only forgave her daughter’s blasphemy, but also promoted her to be a nun at the side of the Saintess. Her future was now bright, like a black hen flying up to become a phoenix. How could this peasant woman not be moved?

Almost at the same time, the channel of faith between her and William Clark rapidly became stronger and more stable.

William Clark, whose consciousness had descended upon the statue, noticed this and felt a slight joy in his heart.

This peasant woman had originally been only a shallow believer, but during the large-scale prayer and united effort, she had already advanced to a true believer. With this small event, she instantly became a devout believer!

The value of a devout believer far exceeds that of a hundred shallow believers.

Everyone present witnessed this scene. The believers became even more excited, praising the mercy of the Lord of Light.

As for the invading soldiers, their faces grew even more ashen, filled with fear, not knowing how the God of Light would judge their crimes.

The elderly and weak believers, who were also protected by the strong faithful, were moved to tears, kneeling on the ground and praying loudly: “Great God of Light, please cast down the Spear of Judgment and destroy the heretics.”

These elderly and weak believers had worshipped the God of Light all their lives, and many had once been true believers. It was only in their old age, after witnessing the collapse of the church and the horrific sight of countless believers being burned to death, that their faith had crumbled.

Otherwise, at their age, they would not have risked following the Saintess Catherine to re-erect the statue of the God of Light and conduct large-scale prayers.

Now, seeing the God of Light return and bestow divine grace, they naturally prayed for Him to display His divine might and avenge the fallen believers.

“Please cast down the Spear of Judgment and destroy the heretics.”

The other believers, upon hearing this, also knelt down in excitement, shouting in unison.

William Clark’s gaze once again fell upon all the members of the Third Patrol Regiment, increasing the pressure.

This time, before William Clark descended upon the statue, he was already enjoying the benefits of the large-scale prayer, and had quickly amassed over 1,000 points of faith power as if he had struck it rich.

While overjoyed, he immediately refined and converted the more than 1,000 points of faith power into 1 point of divine power, and then, carrying a total of 1.2 points of divine power, descended to the mortal world at the most critical moment.

Aside from the 0.1 divine power consumed when descending upon the statue, and another 0.1 divine power spent to highlight the effect of the Light’s descent and the coming of dawn by creating dazzling visual effects,

Now, William Clark still had a full 1 point of divine power left. However, the longer he stayed, the more divine power would be gradually consumed, so he had to act quickly.

Divine power possessed omnipotent might, but to think that a mere 1 point of divine power could wipe out over a hundred enemy soldiers before him was pure fantasy.

However, the prayers of the believers could not be ignored.

Thus, William Clark intensified the visual pressure. This so-called visual pressure was simply staring at them, without expending any additional precious divine power.

William Clark didn’t think his gaze was anything special, but in the eyes of the enemy soldiers, it was a completely different story.

They were already in a state of extreme panic and unease, and with the believers of the God of Light praying for the Spear of Judgment, it truly felt like disaster was imminent.

Chapter 11: Descent! The Spear of Judgment

……

“Clang, clang, clang~”

Among the personal guard cavalry enduring the oppressive gaze of the deity, those with slightly weaker willpower went limp all over, trembling and shivering, unable to hold their swords, shields, spears, and other weapons, which clattered onto the bluestone ground of the monastery square with a crisp sound.

If even the commander’s personal guards were in such a state, there was no need to mention the ordinary patrol soldiers—their morale was on the verge of collapse, ready to throw down their weapons, kneel on the ground, and beg the deity for forgiveness.

Under such an atmosphere, the soldiers’ morale would completely collapse, surrendering without a fight.

“It’s fake! This is an illusion created by the false Saintess Catherine using heresy!” Only Nick, though his heart was full of suspicion and fear, still screamed hysterically, “Kill for me!”

As he uttered the word “kill,” Nick’s expression became ferocious, his aura fierce and intimidating, and he charged at a nearby unarmed male believer with his sword.

For Nick to rise from a commoner, step by step earning merit to become the commander of the Third Patrol Regiment and a noble of the Empire, how could he be an ordinary man?

At this point, whether the descent of the God of Light was real or not, he had no way out.
