However, when he wanted to make a change, he suddenly realized that he had no opportunity to alter his current situation.
In his previous life, he was a program debugger, dealing with computers all day long. Aside from knowledge in that field, his social skills and hands-on abilities were basically nonexistent.
And in this world, he didn’t know carpentry, couldn’t forge iron, and didn’t even know how to farm. His father was nothing more than a farmer—although he was a renowned grain grower in the village, Sean Carter really didn’t want to inherit that craft.
But when under someone else’s roof, how can you not bow your head? Under the pressure of reality, he eventually followed his father and began learning how to eke out a living from the soil.
After finishing his daily work, his only pleasure was gazing at the azure sky, letting his imagination run wild—perhaps this was his way of praying for a brand new future from the heavens.
Yet on this day, as if the heavens had finally opened their eyes, an oval-shaped large sphere flew right before his eyes. Others didn’t know what it was, but in his mind, he had a similar memory.
He knew this thing was called... a UFO.
Holding the only item he had retrieved from the UFO, Sean Carter felt extremely anxious.
He knew he had only one chance to go to that place, because Sir Baker would definitely lead his people there to investigate upon his return.
That was the knight’s duty—even if the task was dangerous, he had to ensure the safety of the nearby villagers and the free folk who paid him tribute.
A faint smile appeared on his youthful face. Luckily, the knight wasn’t at the manor today, or even this one chance would have been lost.
He didn’t believe that after the knight and his men had checked the place, there would be anything left for him to pick over.
With trembling hands, he finally opened the box in front of him.
What was inside surprised Sean Carter greatly—it was a black eye mask. After observing the box for a while, Sean Carter noticed there were three pinhole cameras pointing in different directions on the box. In addition, there was a metal plate of unknown purpose on the top of the box.
He rummaged through the box and, besides the eye mask, found another metal plate identical to the one on top, as well as a dozen or so flies.
That’s right, actual flies. But these flies weren’t alive. After examining them for a while, he was sure they must be some kind of semi-mechanical device.
Looking at the two detachable metal plates, Sean Carter was filled with confusion. He gently picked one up with tweezers and, to his surprise, found a line of small characters beneath the metal plate.
“Solar Power Panel, Made in China.”
A surge of excitement welled up in Sean Carter’s heart. He had thought he would never see these square-shaped characters again in this life, but now, touching this little panel, he truly wondered if the heavens had heard his call.
His movements sped up, and at last, he discovered the name of the device inside the box: Multifunctional Learning Machine.
A faint, bitter smile appeared at the corner of Sean Carter’s mouth. He thought he’d found some treasure, but it turned out to be just a learning machine.
He recalled that, back in the day, he had even used a Subor learning machine.
But on second thought, this wasn’t the kind of handheld computer you could find everywhere in the twenty-first century. This was high-end stuff found on a UFO.
Although the writing was indeed Chinese, he was absolutely certain that the UFO could not possibly be a product manufactured in the twenty-first century.
Since it was a product from the future, it was definitely worth settling down to study.
There was no instruction manual in the box, but that didn’t trouble Sean Carter, because just by looking at the eye mask, he could basically figure out how to use it.
Lying comfortably on the bed, Sean Carter put on the eye mask. Although it was a bit large for him, tightening the strap a few notches solved the problem.
There was a switch in the center of the eye mask. Sean Carter hesitated only briefly before decisively turning it on.
The scene before his eyes changed dramatically. It was as if he had left his room and arrived in a spacious, towering building. Looking around, it was empty and deserted.
Sean Carter’s heart pounded wildly. Staring at this seemingly real scene, four words flashed repeatedly in his mind: virtual reality technology.
Indeed, before Sean Carter died in his previous life, the concept of virtual technology already existed. But it was only a concept—true development and application were still a distant dream.
So he had never dared hope that one day he could experience such technology. Yet unexpectedly, in this new and unfamiliar world after his rebirth, he actually encountered it.
Out of habit, he took a deep breath. Sean Carter sat down and touched the floor. It felt icy cold to the touch, giving an incredibly realistic sensation.
After looking around the building for a while, he walked to the very center of the hall, where there was a one-meter-tall candlestick with a blood-red button on top.
