Chapter 5

Sean Carter gave a wry smile. For a nine-year-old child to make such an expression was actually quite strange, but fortunately, no one was around to see it here. “I understand, but I don’t have enough time to learn all the basic subjects one by one. Right now, I only want to study basic agriculture.”

He didn’t look down on the basic subjects; in fact, he was well aware of their importance.

But if everything proceeded step by step, by the time he got to basic agriculture, it would be absolutely impossible without several years.

Several years—just thinking about that number made his head spin. Anyway, all he wanted now was to find a few ways to increase yield in basic agriculture, not to study the principles behind those methods. So he could just look up basic agriculture directly, without having to learn the key elements within it.

After all, learning agriculture was just a temporary choice for him, and he absolutely had no desire to develop further in this field.

“All right, as you wish.”

The intelligent system finally yielded to his persistence. After searching for a moment, it said, “Sorry, all data has been lost. Please re-enter the information.”

A strong sense of foreboding quickly rose in Sean Carter’s heart.

“Your data has been lost?”

“Yes, it has been lost.”

“Then I won’t study basic agriculture for now. Please teach me basic mathematics.”

After a nerve-wracking brief pause, the intelligent system seemed to speak in a very embarrassed tone: “Sorry, all data has been lost. Please re-enter the information.”

Sean Carter stared blankly at the face in front of him, which looked exactly like his own, now showing a shy expression. As his heart turned completely cold, he also felt a chill run down his spine.

“All right, can you tell me now what information you still have, and what you can teach me?”

Most of the branches on the skill tree instantly disappeared, leaving only a couple of lonely little cats still hanging there.

Basic Chinese Chess, Intermediate Chinese Chess, Advanced Chinese Chess, Basic Radio Calisthenics, Intermediate Radio Calisthenics, Advanced Radio Calisthenics.

Six simple skills were lined up in two straight lines in front of Sean Carter.

The intelligent system looked bashfully at Sean Carter and said, “This is the information that hasn’t been lost yet. Which one would you like to choose?”

“……”

Chapter 3 Radio Calisthenics

“Pa.” Sean Carter’s excited voice rang out: “Checkmate.” A satisfied smile played at the corner of his mouth as he said, “Cannon behind the horse—no solution.”

The intelligent system’s voice sounded at just the right moment: “Congratulations, you have passed the basic Chinese Chess course.”

Sean Carter couldn’t help but laugh. In his previous life, he had started learning chess at eight years old, and until his accidental death, he had been a well-known Chinese Chess player in the whole city. If he couldn’t even pass the basic level, that would be too much.

“Would you like to continue with the intermediate Chinese Chess course?”

After hesitating for a moment, Sean Carter said, “No, it’s probably already daylight outside. I have to get up and work.”

The Sean Carter across from him showed a trace of sadness on his face and asked, “When will you come back again?”

Sean Carter was taken aback. Although he hadn’t learned anything useful today, being able to relive his greatest hobby from so many years ago made the trip worthwhile.

Thinking of his obsession with Chinese Chess back then—even memorizing chess manuals under the desk during class—that long-lost feeling flared up again.

“All right, I’ll come tonight, but I can’t stay with you too long, because I have to work during the day and need enough sleep at night.” Looking around, Sean Carter asked, “How do I get back?”

“As long as you give the word, you can go back.” The virtual Sean Carter suddenly asked, “Is your time very tight?”

“Yes, very tight,” Sean Carter replied casually. Actually, at his age, there wasn’t much to do, especially since old Bond had taken over almost all the farm work.

“If your time is very tight, then I suggest you choose the deficit learning method. This can greatly shorten the time you need.”

“Deficit learning method?”

“Yes, it’s a way of learning by changing the time ratio with the outside world.”

Sean Carter’s eyes lit up. Using virtual technology to alter the flow of time—this was a theory proposed as early as the twenty-first century, but at that time, it was still an unattainable dream. He hadn’t expected to see it realized today.

“To what extent can this learning method adjust the time ratio?”

“In theory, it can be almost infinite.”

“Infinite?” A flash of golden light seemed to pass before Sean Carter’s eyes. He finally understood why there was such a vast knowledge system in this learning machine. If the time ratio could be adjusted to infinity, then no amount of knowledge would ever be enough to learn.

What a pity, truly a pity, that all that information had been lost.
