Chapter 7

David Carter works at an electric vehicle company called Ruichi, a brand-new company in the south that established a sales department in Haicheng three years ago to break into the market there. At that time, they specifically went to Haicheng University to recruit, but the students there all had high expectations, and very few applied to this newly established sales department. What surprised everyone was that the campus celebrity David Carter actually applied, which became quite a piece of news at Haicheng University. David Carter, who could have joined a foreign enterprise, ended up at a private company like this, and in a sales department that had just been set up.

Back then, the electric vehicle market wasn’t very hot, and few people were optimistic about it. But in just a few years, the market has become extremely popular. David Carter also rose from an ordinary employee to the leader of a sales team. If it weren’t for a sudden accident this time, he would have already become one of the supervisors of Ruichi’s Haicheng sales department.

Ruichi’s headquarters in Haicheng is located in a five-star office building on the city’s most prosperous financial street. It has expanded from just two offices to an entire floor, with a third of the space dedicated to the newly established sales team.

As soon as he walked in and saw the newly renovated area, David Carter was filled with emotion. At that moment, someone else came up from another elevator, holding a stack of documents.

“Boss, where have you been these past few days? How could you disappear at such a critical time?” Eric Collins is a core member of David Carter’s team and the most loyal to him. David Carter had already submitted a request to promote him to the leader of a group in the newly established Sales Department Two, but judging by his current appearance, he was doing rookie tasks. As Eric Collins spoke, he held the documents in one hand and pulled David Carter into a corner.

“I thought something had happened to you, boss. Your phone was at the office, and no one could find you. I even went to your place twice. If only you had come back a day earlier…” Eric Collins is not tall and rather thin, with a slender figure that even women would envy. When he saw David Carter, he was first surprised, then relieved, and then his face turned to disappointment and pain, constantly expressing regret.

“Something unexpected happened. Has the supervisor for Sales Department Two already been decided?” David Carter didn’t want to talk much about the past few days. He glanced at the newly renovated Sales Department Two, where people were already coming and going, and asked.

“It wasn’t so urgent at first, but our biggest domestic competitor is about to launch a major promotion in Haicheng, and with Henry Foster stirring things up, the higher-ups used the person he recommended. That woman already had a thing with Henry Foster, and although there’s a manager sent from headquarters, they’re all under their control. That bastard even submitted a report to the higher-ups to have you dismissed, completely erasing all your years of hard work. But don’t worry, boss, the higher-ups haven’t approved it yet. Go explain to them as soon as possible, and if that doesn’t work, go straight to headquarters.” Eric Collins spoke quickly, rattling off the whole situation. He doesn’t have a high level of education, and it’s thanks to David Carter that he has this job at Ruichi. Back then, David Carter recruited him at a job fair, and he’s been following David Carter at Ruichi ever since.

In sales, especially in pioneering new markets, David Carter has seen it all over the years. With his personality, he wouldn’t be too bothered by this kind of thing, but if it had been a few days ago, he wouldn’t have listened so calmly and patiently to Eric Collins finish. Now, however, he was very calm. Thinking about his arm being amputated in the hospital, then regrowing, and the great soul inside him whose name he still couldn’t remember, these things didn’t seem so significant anymore.

“All right, I’ll go take a look first. We’ll talk later.” David Carter patted Eric Collins on the shoulder. Although Eric Collins only has a junior high education, he’s very smart and, most importantly, eager to learn and improve.

When David Carter walked into the sales department, many people froze, while some avoided him and pretended to be busy. Others nodded in greeting, and those who had gotten along well with him before came over to quietly say a few words and ask how he was doing.

“Knock, knock…” David Carter knocked on Henry Foster’s door. Henry Foster is the head of the sales department and David Carter’s direct supervisor.

“Come in…” came an impatient voice from inside.

David Carter pushed the door open and saw Henry Foster with his feet up on the desk, half-reclining in a huge executive chair, phone in hand, his face glowing with excitement.

“Baby, don’t worry about the celebration party I’ve arranged for you. That guy sent from headquarters doesn’t know anything. Sooner or later, this place will be ours…” Henry Foster didn’t even look up, continuing to talk on the phone.

David Carter immediately knew who he was calling—the woman who had replaced him, the former leader of Sales Team Three, Sarah Bolton, who was also Henry Foster’s old flame.

“I really put in a lot of effort this time. Tonight, when we get back, you have to let me…” Henry Foster was speaking when he suddenly sensed something was off. The person who came in hadn’t said a word. He lifted his eyelids slightly.

“Crash…” Henry Foster suddenly saw David Carter and was shocked. He tried to sit up straight, but ended up yanking the phone cord, almost pulling the phone to the floor, and nearly falling over himself.
