Volume One: Farewell to the Mortal World
Chapter One: A Strange Guest
Jinxing Building is an ordinary office building in the city, not very tall, with only fourteen floors.
Good Luck Express Company rented a room on the second floor here three years ago, and used it as a base to gradually develop into the top express company in the city and even the entire province.
"Ethan Cooper, the boss wants to see you." The boss's secretary, Emily Bolton, pushed open the door and called softly.
"Coming."
Ethan Cooper responded and quickly walked into the general manager's office.
There were two people inside. Naturally, the one behind the boss's desk was the business prodigy Eric Bennett, who single-handedly founded and grew Good Luck Express.
The other person, Ethan Cooper stole a glance at, and couldn't help but feel his heart pound twice.
He was a handsome man, exuding a strong masculine energy. But what truly made Ethan Cooper uneasy was the faint sense of danger emanating from him.
Although he didn't know why he suddenly felt this way, Ethan Cooper could clearly sense it, and subconsciously moved a little closer to the boss.
"Mr. Harris, his name is Ethan Cooper, our company's most reliable employee. If you want to ship something, just come to him. I can assure you, unless there are some irresistible circumstances, we will definitely fulfill your request."
Ethan Cooper's eyelids twitched slightly.
The boss is bluffing again. What does "irresistible circumstances" even mean?
Actually, as long as something unexpected happens, most of the time you can use that phrase to brush it off.
The old man's business tricks are getting sharper and sharper. No wonder he's been making a fortune and rising step by step in recent years.
Mr. Harris stood up, his gaze lingering on Ethan Cooper for a moment, with a look of uncertain surprise in his eyes. After a while, he said in a deep voice, "Mr. Bennett, I'd like to invite this Mr. Cooper to a meal and ask him a few questions, if that's alright?"
Ethan Cooper felt a chill in his heart. What kind of look is that? Could it be that he's one of those...
The smile on his face instantly froze.
"Of course, please go ahead." Eric Bennett stood up with a big smile, then turned to Ethan Cooper and said, "Ethan Clark, take good care of Mr. Harris. The bill is on me."
Mr. Harris nodded at him and led Ethan Cooper out of the office.
"Mr. Cooper, where to?" Mr. Harris suddenly asked.
"What?" Ethan Cooper was startled, almost blurting out. Having a meal was clearly your suggestion, so how did it turn into this as soon as we stepped out?
"I'm not familiar with this area, so I don't know where the good restaurants are. If you know, Mr. Cooper, please lead the way."
"Sure." Ethan Cooper put on a smile. "We have a revolving restaurant on the fourteenth floor. You can enjoy the city view while dining—two birds with one stone. Would you like to try it, Mr. Harris?"
To be honest, he didn't really want to stay with this person, because he always gave him a dangerous feeling. But he couldn't ignore the boss's instructions.
Although he never took this job too seriously, Boss Bennett was indeed a good person. If it weren't absolutely necessary, he really didn't want to leave.
When they got upstairs, Ethan Cooper originally wanted to choose a window seat, but John Harris flatly refused.
Fortunately, it wasn't peak dining time, and there were only a few scattered tables occupied.
They easily found a small private room.
"Mr. Harris, are you here to ship something?"
"Yes."
"Are you shipping valuables? If so, I suggest you..."
"My name is John Harris."
"Uh..." Suddenly interrupted so rudely, Ethan Cooper gave a self-deprecating chuckle and silently reminded himself: He's the customer, the customer is always right, don't offend him.
In fact, even if he was given the courage, he wouldn't dare offend this man who gave him such an intense sense of danger.
"You have good aptitude, and a spiritual root."
"Ha... what? Ah... yes, yes."
Ethan Cooper replied perfunctorily, but a cold sweat broke out on his forehead. Did I run into a charlatan today? Or one with some special hobby.
But this guy really doesn't look like one, and even the shrewd boss wouldn't dare offend him, so he must be something else.
"It's a pity I'm in no position to help right now, otherwise..." John Harris said with some regret.
"Sigh, that really is a pity," Ethan Cooper thought to himself. What do you mean you're in no position to help? What does that have to do with me? But luckily you can't help, otherwise if you made some outrageous request, I'd just have to walk away.
John Harris reached out and placed two items on the table.
