Chapter 12

After wandering around the room for a while, Ethan Cooper's gaze suddenly fixed on an object. He stared at it in disbelief and asked uncertainly, "What is this?"

The two young Taoists also looked quite surprised and answered cautiously, "This is a television."

"A television..."

Ethan Cooper's expression was extremely odd. Along the way, he had already begun to suspect a few things—perhaps the legends about immortals were true. The Taoists here gave him that kind of feeling; it was very likely he had arrived at an immortal's abode.

Just looking at the environment here, so completely different from the outside world, it was clear this was no ordinary place. However, when he suddenly saw a high-tech modern product in a place full of ancient charm, a sense of utter absurdity welled up inside him.

"Does every room have one?"

"No, except for the one in Fifth Master's room, only the guest room has this thing."

Ethan Cooper nodded to himself and said nothing more. He stepped forward, turned on the TV, and started watching out of boredom. But inside, his mind was in turmoil; though his eyes were fixed on the screen, he wasn't taking in anything at all.

Chapter Eight: Taking a Master

"The Cooper Brothers."

Ethan Cooper responded and stood up. The visitor was none other than Master Brian Lee.

"I've already reported to my master. Come with me quickly to pay your respects."

Ethan Cooper gave a wry smile. Other than agreeing, what other choice did he have?

Soon, they arrived at the old Taoist's room.

Ethan Cooper's eyes quickly swept around. This room had only a table, a bed, and a chair. Compared to the beautifully decorated guest room he was staying in, the difference was like night and day.

"Disciple Brian Lee pays respects to Master." Brian Lee bowed respectfully.

Ethan Cooper stood dumbly to the side, imitating Brian Lee's gesture and bowing his head, but he didn't know how he should address the old Taoist.

The old Taoist's eyes suddenly opened wide, revealing a hint of a smile. He said, "You may go now. Go and find Kevin Wright."

Brian Lee acknowledged and turned to leave, casting a rather envious glance at Ethan Cooper as he went.

He knew his master's temperament very well—he was always stern with his disciples. But today, he actually showed such rare kindness and warmth. It was clear how much he valued Ethan Cooper.

"What is your name?"

"I... I am... no, this junior is Ethan Cooper."

Several forms of address flashed through his mind in an instant, but in the end, he decided to refer to himself as "junior."

"Very good." The old Taoist nodded with a smile, looking at Ethan Cooper with even more delight.

No matter how hard Ethan Cooper racked his brains, he couldn't figure out what was so good about his name. But since the old Taoist liked it, it couldn't be a bad thing.

"What message did Jun'er ask you to deliver?" The old Taoist amused himself for a while before finally remembering the main matter and asking.

"Mr. Lu asked me to deliver something to you." Ethan Cooper took off the travel bag he had been carrying, took out the combination case inside, and handed it over.

The old Taoist took it casually and tore off the seal on the case.

"Mr. Lu didn't give me the key, nor did he tell me the code to open it, so..."

Ethan Cooper's voice suddenly stopped, as if a sharp knife had sliced the sentence in two.

He saw the old Taoist extend two fingers and, just like that, forcefully broke into the case. With a casual pull, he split the entire case neatly and evenly in half.

He swallowed hard. If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes—no, even seeing it with his own eyes, Ethan Cooper almost doubted what he was seeing.

This safe was made of solid steel. Even with all the right tools, it would take half a day to pry it open.

But the old Taoist's hands were even more formidable than a laser, splitting the case apart without the slightest resistance. Was he even human?

Inside the case was a jade bottle, not very large, just the right size to fit in one hand.

The old Taoist took the jade bottle, and his expression suddenly changed dramatically, clearly showing surprise and ecstasy—he was even more excited than when he heard that Ethan Cooper possessed a spiritual root.

"This... how is this possible? Where did Jun'er get this?"

However, the old Taoist's loss of composure didn't last long; he quickly returned to normal.

With a flick of his wrist, the jade bottle instantly disappeared. Ethan Cooper had been watching closely, but still couldn't see what technique he used—it was unbelievably fast.

"Come with me."

Ethan Cooper followed the old Taoist outside. The old Taoist didn't seem to do anything, but Ethan Cooper suddenly sensed something was off.

His feet felt light, as if he wasn't standing on solid ground, more like stepping on a cloud of cotton. But that wasn't the most important thing.

The most important thing was that the scenery before his eyes was dropping lower and lower, because his body was rising higher and higher—he was actually flying up into the air.

No longer caring about manners, Ethan Cooper made the wisest choice he could in that moment and grabbed the old Taoist tightly.
