“Hmm! Is that so! I found it there too. I’m eating at ‘Donglin Restaurant’ right now, come over and get it. Oh, and you’d better bring your ID card—I want to verify your identity.”
“No problem, thank you, sir!”
William Carter hung up the phone and almost spat out his food. Brian Cooper and Samuel Clark looked at him strangely. “What’s up with you? Acting all weird—careful you don’t choke on your food!” William Carter grinned smugly, “Just mind your own business. Hurry up and eat, let’s get going!”
Twenty minutes later, Little Emily Harris arrived at Donglin Restaurant. William Carter waved at her from afar; she hadn’t expected to run into William Carter here at all.
She was stunned for a moment, but still walked over to William Carter. From her light steps, it was clear her sprained ankle had completely healed. Today was the first time William Carter really got a good look at her. Little Emily Harris was the kind of girl who caught your eye instantly—about 1.7 meters tall, with chestnut-red long hair casually draped over her shoulders, a green linen top paired with a red-and-black checkered skirt. The two striking colors contrasted sharply, yet looked surprisingly harmonious against her milky skin. Her legs were long and slender, perfectly hidden below the knee in white high boots.
From the hostile look in Little Emily Harris’s eyes, it was obvious she didn’t think much of William Carter. William Carter kept smiling, “So, how’s your foot? All better?” For some reason, seeing William Carter just made Little Emily Harris angry. “What’s it got to do with you?”
“We’re all children raised under the red flag—can’t I care about a fellow revolutionary?”
“No, you can’t!” Little Emily Harris shot back stiffly.
“Looking for someone?” William Carter asked with a grin.
“Why so much nonsense?” Little Emily Harris glared at William Carter and started looking around.
William Carter leaned in again, “Why don’t you sit down and wait?”
“Why are you so annoying?” Little Emily Harris suddenly raised her voice, drawing curious glances from the other diners.
William Carter made a face, “Fine! If you don’t appreciate my kindness, just pretend I never said anything!”
Little Emily Harris opened her purse, took out her phone, and dialed her own number. As soon as the phone rang, she realized what had happened. William Carter was grinning as he fiddled with her phone. Little Emily Harris glared at him and sat down across from him. “Feeling pretty pleased with yourself, aren’t you?” William Carter nodded, looking completely unbothered.
“Boring! You’re so lame!” Little Emily Harris seemed a bit agitated.
William Carter laughed, “Looks like we really are fated to meet…”
“Don’t try to get close to me!” Little Emily Harris sat down across from William Carter. “Give me back my phone!”
William Carter deliberately put on a shameless act, “How do I know this phone is yours?”
“My photo’s on it!”
“Doesn’t look like you in the photo to me.”
“You…”
William Carter smugly took a sip of beer, while Little Emily Harris glared at him like a tiger eyeing its prey.
“Don’t look at me like that, or I might get the wrong idea and think you’re interested in me!” William Carter said brazenly.
“Don’t flatter yourself!” Little Emily Harris was fuming.
“Heh!” William Carter laughed a bit wildly, and Little Emily Harris wished she could throw her glass at his face.
Finally, when William Carter finished eating, he leisurely wiped his mouth. “To tell you the truth, I came across this phone while buying used phones. I spent a thousand bucks on it.” Little Emily Harris immediately caught his meaning and opened her purse to get the money.
“No need to be so formal, right? We at least know each other. Here, take it!” William Carter pushed the phone toward Little Emily Harris. She hadn’t expected William Carter to return the phone so readily. She paused for a moment before saying, “Don’t think that just because of this, I’ll have any good feelings toward you!”
William Carter frowned, “Comrade, please! Can you stop always thinking the worst of me?” Just then, the phone rang again. Little Emily Harris answered, “Hello! Bro! I found my phone… Turns out you know the guy—it’s the one who fought with you at the bar that day!”
William Carter was so angry he almost spat blood. Damn, this girl really has no loyalty, turning on him in a flash. Little Emily Harris was chatting away happily, then handed the phone to William Carter. “My brother wants to talk to you!”
William Carter cursed inwardly, but said, “I don’t think I really know him that well!”
“Are you scared of him?” Now it was Little Emily Harris’s turn to look smug.
“Me, scared of him?” William Carter snatched the phone.
On the other end, Edward Harris’s menacing voice came through: “William Carter! You’ve got guts! Embarrassing me in front of everyone!” William Carter acted completely unfazed. “Edward Harris, if you care so much about your reputation, don’t go overboard!”
“Alright, kid! Didn’t expect you to be such a troublemaker. You want to go solo, huh? I just happen to want to teach you a lesson. Four o’clock this afternoon at ‘Shouyan Dojo’—I’ll be waiting for you!”
William Carter was never one to back down. “Come alone if you’ve got the guts!”
Edward Harris sneered, “Damn, I’ve never stooped so low. Dealing with a punk like you, I don’t need to call for backup.”
