Chapter 11

“It's parked in the lot!” Little Emily Harris pointed toward the parking lot directly to the east. William Carter followed the direction of her finger and spotted a red Honda 50 scooter. “Nice! Pretty bold, not even a license plate. Haven't the traffic cops confiscated your ride yet?” Little Emily Harris lifted her chin proudly. “All the traffic cops along this route are my brother’s best buddies!”

“Then why don’t you go find them? Why call me over?” William Carter deliberately retorted.

Little Emily Harris's face turned even redder. “Forget it, if you don’t want to help, just leave. Don’t go thinking you’re some big shot!”

Seeing that she was genuinely a bit angry, William Carter gave a couple of awkward laughs. “Here to skate?” Little Emily Harris shot him a glare and ignored him.

William Carter moved closer. “Have you skated before? Doesn’t look like it... How about you treat me?”

“Who’s joking around with you!” Little Emily Harris tossed her hair and walked off into the distance.

William Carter started laughing. He cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted loudly, “Little Emily Harris, I was just kidding! Why are you crying?” The people around all turned to look at them. Little Emily Harris spun around angrily and swung her handbag, hitting William Carter hard. “William Carter! You’re shameless!”

William Carter grabbed her handbag. “I’ve always been like this. Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me?”

“As if!”

“Then why are you so mad?” William Carter asked with a grin.

“I...” Little Emily Harris was so angry her eyes were turning red. William Carter's tone immediately softened. “Hey, I’m really sorry. I have this flaw—whenever I see a pretty girl, I just want to tease her. Once, a fortune teller told me that in my past life, I was bullied by beautiful women, so in this life I want to get back at them double. Think about it, you’re not just pretty, you’re drop-dead gorgeous. Whenever I see a beauty, all that past-life resentment just comes rushing back. I really can’t help it...”

Little Emily Harris couldn’t help but laugh. “Stop talking nonsense.”

“Not mad anymore?”

“It’s not that easy—unless... you treat me to skating as an apology!” Little Emily Harris’s anger had completely vanished.

William Carter nodded eagerly, grinning mischievously. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll use the chance to make you fall?”

“You wouldn’t dare!” Little Emily Harris paused, then added, “Who knows who’ll make who fall!”

Once they got to the rink, William Carter finally understood what Little Emily Harris really meant. He’d thought his skating skills were pretty good, but next to Little Emily Harris, all he could do was watch.

Little Emily Harris could even pull off a 360-degree jump, leaving William Carter’s mouth hanging open. “Wow, you’ve been planning this, haven’t you? Invited me just to show off?” Little Emily Harris smiled smugly and came to a sudden stop right in front of William Carter. William Carter took the opportunity to grab Little Emily Harris’s hand. “I’m afraid of falling, hold on to me!” Little Emily Harris blushed. “You’re taking advantage of me!”

“You have such a complicated mind. Do I look like that kind of guy?”

“Don’t I know exactly what kind of guy you are?”

“Heh! You know me pretty well. That’s the first step to falling in love!”

“Pfft!” Little Emily Harris pretended to shake off William Carter’s hand, but William Carter only held on tighter.

The two of them started circling the rink. William Carter boasted shamelessly, “Actually, my skills are pretty close to yours. Anyone else wouldn’t be able to keep up with you.”

“Who told you to chase me...” As soon as she said it, Little Emily Harris realized something was off. She panicked a little, her foot slipped, and she almost fell. William Carter quickly put his arm around Little Emily Harris’s shoulders. “Careful!”

Little Emily Harris blushed and pulled away from William Carter’s arm. William Carter grinned. “What perfume are you wearing? Smells so good.”

“How can you be so thick-skinned?” Little Emily Harris’s long lashes drooped.

“What was that saying? Is this how you treat your savior?”

“You’re so great? Should I offer myself to you in gratitude?” Little Emily Harris shot back.

William Carter nodded eagerly. “I have this flaw—I take everything seriously.” Little Emily Harris raised her hand to hit him, but William Carter darted away, and Little Emily Harris chased after him, laughing.

The two of them chased each other around the rink for a couple of laps. William Carter spun around and came to a sudden stop. Little Emily Harris couldn’t slow down in time and crashed right into William Carter’s arms. She knew William Carter had done it on purpose, so she playfully punched him twice in the chest. William Carter clutched his chest dramatically. “You really don’t hold back!”

“Who taught you to be so bad!”

“You threw yourself into my arms—why blame me?”

Little Emily Harris knew she couldn’t out-argue William Carter, so she raised her fist at him again and skated off, laughing. The two of them played on the ice for over two hours, and by the time they left, it was already past four in the afternoon.

Little Emily Harris’s scooter didn’t have any major issues. William Carter knew a bit about repairs and got it started in no time. Little Emily Harris said from the side, “Didn’t expect you to have some skills!” William Carter wiped his hands and replied, “I have plenty of skills. The longer you’re around me, the more you’ll realize you can’t live without me!”

“You think that highly of yourself?”

William Carter turned his head, grabbed Little Emily Harris’s arm, and pointed at the passing pedestrians. “Look, any woman between sixteen and sixty who walks by here can’t help but give me a loving glance. Guess what they’re thinking?”

Little Emily Harris looked completely unimpressed.
